After updating to 2.1v2 from 1.5 I cant find where you control which groups gets synced. When I go to People->Groups->Menu the option for 'Sync Groups' is missing. I have so many contacts in GMail, id prefer to only sync certain groups.

1. Some random contacts from my gmail account do NOT synch to the phone. No rhyme or reason - just a handfull of contacts are NOT on the phone. I can't make a connection to "Groups", with/without an e-mail or phone#, etc. It just seems completely random.
2. Battery life is horriible. I'm talking about draining to nothing in a few hours (This is a separate issue I will look into). Regarding gmail contacts, it seems that it is constantly doing a Contact Sync - and DOES NOT STOP.
I've had my Eris since the week it came out and it has the People > Groups > Sync Groups option, however a friend of mine just got an Eris and his phone does not have this option and is syncing ALL of his gmail contacts. His groups screen only has the option to add or delete groups.The only difference I can think is that I did not have Verizon transfer my contacts from my blackberry to my Eris, he did.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have all of my contacts saved to the phone, deleted all contacts saved on SIM. I now saved everything to google contacts, and even after saving some in various groups, I cannot get the groups to sync over to the vibrant. All of the contacts synced perfectly, but not the groups. I even tried making new groups using different names than the generic google group names. If I display contacts from both the phones memory and google contacts, then it will show me the groups I've selected.

Those groups get synced to my android contacts and I can see them in the groups tab. However, neither gmail nor any sms app that I have tried actually use these contact groups for anything.
Am I missing some setting for this to work or is this not implemented in android?
I have been using gmail extensively for the last 3 years. I have tons of contacts in many different groups on my account.If I select the gmail account on my galaxy it does not recognize the groups and it throws all my contacts into one group with the name of my gmail account.
Is there a way (an application) to fix this?
I just can't seem to have my gmail groups appear on my Fascinate. I mean they don't even show up. I can alter my contacts in gmail and that shows up on my phone but any group I create will not show up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving issues with gmail contact sync. I was using the blackberry tour which I synced regularly with outlook. When I switched to the Droid i exported the vcard into gmail and the gmail synced with my droid. The problem is some of my contacts have been merged with other contacts. For example, Nick with no last name was merged with Nick H that does have a last name. They should be two different Nicks and I dont understand why the droid is combining them. I have checked the gmail account and the two Nicks are NOT merged together, but the two Nicks ARE merged on the actual phone. My phone was syncing with facebook and gmail but i disabled the auto sync and just manually synced the gmail on its own but i still have the same problem. I also have another friend with the same problem on her droid.

For some reason, whenever I send out an email to someone that's not in my contact list, it appears as a new contact under the people app, with the email address listed. I don't want it to automatically add these emails to my contacts. Is there a way I can stop this, besides un-syncing my Gmail account?

Some contacts from Gmail successfully imported to the phone
Many still have not, including anyone who was a "favorite"
Some of the email address of my "favorites" have transferred over, but none of their phone numbers have
I let the sync go over night and the problem persisted
If i check it in setting, the sync will periodically say "there's a problem with the sync, check back shortly" but continue to attempt to sync
My battery drained today because the phone continued to try and sync unsuccessfully
Any tips on how to solve this problem?
Whenever I click "contacts", it shows "All Groups", not "Phone Contacts". After I switch the display group to "Phone Contacts", it'll stay that way for an hour or so, but later, it'll switch right back to "All contacts". (I have "facebook" and "twitter" groups in contacts as well). Is anyone else having this problem?

I haven't synced my contacts to Gmail since January because I found the way it would garble them all up annoying. But I got the OTA on my phone & wanted to make sure they're backed up before I go ahead w/the installation. Problem is, it has been acting like it's syncing for over 12 hours now & all it's doing is draining my battery. It still shows that it hasn't been synced since January. Also, periodically during the sync attempts, the "too many contacts deletes" notification pops up. I always tell it to delete everything. And it's odd that one time it'll say 505 deletes & the next time it'll say 502 deletes & it keeps getting less. I don't get it. need to back up my contacts before I install 2.1 right?

They are not showing up in my notification nar at this time (after refresh) either. I really like that bar too! Also, the data sycnronizing or connected HTC Sync icon (right by the gps and 3g icons) keeps coming on and off every few seconds. Is this normal? While I'm at it, the 3g icon's arrows (up and down) do the same thing all the time.I'm a yahoo guy and setup my gmail to import my yahoo, now all day it hasn't been when refreshing, etc. Gmail issues today perhaps? I think from all of my reading on here and messing with the phone I did something perhaps?

It tries to sync, gets an error about contact sync not being available, tries to sync, gets error, etc over and over. Here me out for a minute. I think it's great that I can have my contacts all safe and backed up to my gmail account. However, when I use my gmail e-mail, and I send an e-mail...it automatically adds them to my contacts.
Am I weird for wanting my phone JUST to have peoples numbers in my contacts? I don't need people's phone numbers who live in England, because I'll just e-mail them if i need to ask them anything. Maybe I'm just old school and so used to my non-smart phone.

I have an issue with using contacts on my droid. From within 'contacts' i hit the 'display options' then selecting the email account I see the drop down for system contact groups-friends, family, coworkers. I am wondering if there is any way to create additional contact types or groups? As in I have a specific group of contacts from one website I want to add to a group--can you create a contact type or contact group?? I can't find the option when adding a new contact or when within the display options as mentioned before.
