Android :: Don't Need Previous Activities Load On Pressing Back Button On First Activity

Jul 15, 2010

When i leave my app after pressing home button and then re launch it from menus it behaves in a strange way.Sometimes it launches the same activity on which i pressed home button. But sometimes it launches the first activity of my app. One reason for this could be that whenever system has memory shortage it clears any activities existing in But the strange thing is if i press back button from first activity it takes me back to the same activity on which i pressed home button and all other previous activities are also there(like if i press back button again previous activities also exist.)I haven't set any launching mode for any activity in my app(like single instance etc). What i don't need is that previous activities load on pressing back button on first activity.

This is an issue I've been having. I can be in any of a number of apps, and when I hit 'home' or back out of it, 20% of the time I get the white HTC evo screen and then it will redraw as if i had rebooted.I'm currently backing up in anticipating of doing a factory reset to see if that helps, but would love to avoid the hassle if I can figure out whats causing this beforehand.

HTC Desire :: Cant Get Push Email To Push Using HTC Desire-always Reverts To Manual

May 26, 2010

I have a strange problem with Push email on my HTC Desire. I can set this up no problem - email comes in but only manually. I cannot get the push to actually work. When I go into the send receive schedule I can set up the days/hours for peak off peak and push but regardless of what I set these to be, when I go back to the previous screen it always says the Schedule is Manual. I've tried setting up lots of variations from manual through timed to push but still the same. Net result is push never seems to happen - manual overrides my schedule. To pick up email I have to go into email and do a manual sync.

HTC Desire :: Dropped From 3 Cm - Phone Instantly Off On Impact

May 4, 2010

I am trying to investigate why I seem to come to my phone (without dropping it) and it is sometimes off. I remembered that I had a couple of small drops before, the kind of drop that would not have made any previous phone I've had even skip a beat. So I did a test and dropped it on purpose.

3cm drop.
Phone dropped completely flat on it's back so it landed flat.
Phone in silicone/gel tight fitting case.
Glass table.
Screen on when dropped.

Result? Phone instantly off on impact. To me, I find this way too delicate in comparison to phones I've owned. Now, this is my first big screen smartphone, but not my first smartphone. My last was the Nokia E71 which was very very well built. Evidently, it was even better built than I thought.

Am I being harsh/naive and this is normal, or do I have a delicate unit?

HTC Desire :: Browser History Vs. Back Button Trail

Sep 9, 2010

I don't know if this is an Android in general or Desire specific problem but I imagine all the sharpest minds have HTC Desires anyway so here goes:How do you get rid of the trail of previously visited sites that you step back though in the browser when you press the phone's back button? After clearing the history these pages persist and it seems the only way to lose them is to step back though each of them with the back button until you reach your home page when the next press finally 'closes' the browser. It's very annoying, especially if any of the pages you've visited have POST data or redirects.

Android :: PUSH Tech - SMS From Server To Mobile

Oct 13, 2009

problem: server (web server) wants to send data( or some information) to mobile client (android based phone). means simply notify to start work, then mobile start working on specific application. i would like to do a SMS from server to mobile, to start working. buts its not the best idea. as we can assign too an IP to android mobile phone in case of WiFi or USB connectivity. but phone will use GPRS or GSM, so there is no unique IP of Mobile so that we can access mobile phone using Socket Programing.

Motorola Droid X : Back Button Functionality - Cannot Simply Go Back One Menu Using The Back Key

Jul 15, 2010

This is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.

As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.

Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.

Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.

It makes navigating the phone very tedious.

Android :: Doing Broadcasts With HTTP Server Push Over WiFi?

Apr 2, 2010

We are designing a system with a PC base station and 100 Android mobiles communicating over WiFi. They will use XLM-RPC as the method of mobile to base station communication. However, sometimes the base station needs to broadcast a message to all mobiles. Should we use "http server push" for this, i.e., have the base station leave the connections open to all the mobiles? Is there a better way? Publish-subscribe is possible, but doesn't seem mature on Android yet.

Android :: PHP Socket Server (Push Notifications) - Security / Authentication

Aug 31, 2010

I have recently written a socket server in PHP that will be handling communication between an Android phone application and my PHP webserver. Due to the fact that Android doesn't natively support push style notifications we are going to be using our webserver as the middleware layer to handle our 'pushes'. The socket server is stable, runs well, and seems to scale nicely. While I would eventually like to re-write this in C I don't have the skill necessary to do that right now so I am going to be staying in PHP for at least a short while. As of this moment our Android emulator is able to communicate through the server, get pushes, etc. so that part is all covered.

My concern is that, right now, anyone can open a socket to my server and will be given a client connection. While we won't be passing sensitive data back and forth I don't want to allow just anyone to connect over and receive broadcast information, eat up my resources, and clog my server in general. The question is, how do I secure a server like this? Let's assume that I am running on port 25,000--can I set up some sort of SSL layer on that port and expect devices like the Android to be able to communicate over that port without any special protocols or jumping through hoops? I have considered asking the connecting clients to authenticate their user against our user database before being given a client connection, but that would require the passing of credentials in plain text over the network which I am not about to do.

I am rather new to straight TCP communication from PHP and feel like I might just be missing something simple that allows for authentication on this level.
Additional information: If I am able to get a valid username and password securely I would be using MySQL to validate the user and then accept/reject their connection based on the results of the query.

Push Button Application

Jan 4, 2013

how to implement a small project. I have the control logic figured out I am just new to android development to have a full handle on the task at hand.

I have essentially a 5x4 matrix of buttons that I want to at random light up in a randomized time between 6 and 30 seconds between light up.. The person needs to push the button back in to reset it before 5 seconds or a small red X appears over the button. If the person misses more than 3 times the screen flashes red for a second before resetting the red Xs and the count starts over. There is also a reset button that will reset the counts and start over again and a exit button that will bring up a results page that has how many hits and misses and elapsed time. It should also create a small graph that shows the % correct over time.

Android :: Can Browser Load From Local Server To View Pages?

Apr 6, 2009

Can one use an Android phone to access basically local (think intranet for example) web servers to view pages? I ask this question because some cell phones with some phone network appear to use a special server to funnel cell phone requests thru and that the server offloads from the browser part of what a browser normally does. I get the impression that the Opera mobile browser works this way.I want to talk to local devices that serve web pages and connect directly to them from phones. Does the Chrome browser in Android have the full functionality that Chrome has on a PC? Can it parse HTML, do XMLHttpRequest, and otherwise act like a modern browser?

Samsung Fascinate :: Push Button To Unlock

I think a push-the-button-to-unlock AND a move-the-puzzle-piece-to-unlock-again is redundant. I saw where there is an app that will turn off the screen without locking it but isn't anyone else worried that after a few months of use, pushing the power button all the time is going to wear it out? Is there no app to turn on the screen by simply touching it, or touching one of the 4 icons at the bottom of the phone, and THEN moving the puzzle piece?

Android :: How To Control Activity Flow - Back Button Versus Home Button

Sep 2, 2010

I have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.

I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".

Android : Back Button - Disable In Buffering Or Should Prevent The Player Tostart If Back Is Clicked

Oct 11, 2010

In my android application i have a video list screen,a buffering screen and a videoplayer screen.
As soon as the user clicks an item from videolist screen ,he is navigated to buffering screen and then to videoplayer.
In the buffering screen i am using Async task and doing the loading process in on background process.

Now my issue is like the user if has selested a video then gets navigated to buffering screen. But if the user clicks back when he is in buffering screen then initially he is getting navigated to videolist screen but immediately after that again he is navigated to videoplayer screen.

What i would like to have is either the back button should be made disable in buffering or should prevent the player tostart if back is clicked.
