i have an htc desire, and when i tap the power button to put my phone to sleep mode, or power saving mode, it wont ring or make a sound when i receieve a text message.how do i solve that?

I'm at a loss about what could be causing this. I uninstalled Astrid To-Do app completely now, but I'll have to wait to make sure that fixed anything. I have about 7 days left before my 30 day return policy kicks in, but I moved to Boston from Iowa to go to college, and I would have to mail it back, which I would prefer not to do (cost and time without a phone being the major issues).

My desire will not always ring the sms ring notifier when i recieve texts, it annoyed me so much that i decided to do a warranty swap, and the new one does the same thing!is this a standard android thing? it seems to me that if i have recieved or sent a text to somebody within 30 minutes, it will not ring, as though it expects me to be hovering over my phone staring at it for a reply, is this a normal issue? and is there a way to fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI miss my Blackberry choices for notification, in particular, phone only. A quick one press button for ring, vibrate, ring phone only, silent. I use profile and find it a little too in depth. I want something simple. I also think there may be a gremlin or two as I have found my settings changed without my doing anything.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the desire for about 3 months now and i m loving it. however, what irritates me is that every time when a sms is received, the phone only vibrates once, while the ring tone still goes on. i have tried the smart vibrate app. although it can set the length of the vibrate but it will still vibrate even if i have read the sms. any one can recommend any better apps? also it seems to take a long time to power off my phone. is it due to running apps? but i have killed the apps b4 i shut down....

View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I receive messages it makes the notification sound and will show message in notification bar but the text of the message will not appear in the text thread. Used to happen every once in a while, now doing it multiple times a day. I use Handcent but I doubt that is the problem because the messages dont show up in the regular messaging either. Just want to see if i am alone with this problem.

I assumed that there would be an easy way to copy the number from my contacts and paste it into a text message. However I couldn't work it out and had to go down the traditional route of writing it on a piece of paper then sending the text! Hardly a good advert for the new 'uberphone' that the desire is billed as! So, is there a way to do it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had my Desire for for a couple of months & love it but the mrs has just got a Wildfire & i have noticed when i text a message the TO box and the TAP TO COMPOSE boxes are about the same size with a big black box in between them that you cannot drag to alter size when the phone is held upright but on the Wildfire the TAP TO COMPOSE box is the is massive with a send & a attach button on the side when held upright. How do you alter this on the desire? When both phones are turned on the side the TAP TO COMPOSE box is big on both. Also the Wildfire has a torch app which uses the LED on the camera which is not on the Desire but the screen is so dull compared to my phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my Desire for just over a month now and still haven't worked out how to get the text message alert to repeat. I have my phone on silent/vibrate when I'm at work, and I have sometimes found that a text comes in while I'm away from my desk and I don't discover this until later. Or even when I've got the sound switched on I don't always notice it if I'm in a noisy environment, or maybe I don't feel the vibration in my pocket. My previous phones have always produced the alert tone/vibration every few minutes until I read the message. Can this be done with the Desire, and how?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve had my phone for a bout 4 months and this problem has just started and is driving me to distraction. When i receive a text message i get 2 notifications. I get the normal 1 and now a another 1 saying new message(s) which will clear if i click. Also my text message ringtone plays twice also. I use SMS popup as well, but i have been using that for at least 3 months with no problems.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have come across a compelling problem with my Orange bill since getting my Desire. I set up a group in contacts and a number of times have attempted to send a group text. There are about 8 people in that group but when I pressed send I would get message pending.
Some members of the group would not receive anything whilst others would get a text hours later.
I tried a couple of more times last month then gave up.
This week my bill came with a 10 charge for photo messages, as if I would use this crap way of sending pics when I have access to email. All the group messages were charged at 25p per person.
To give Orange their due, they will reimburse me the money on goodwill but I certainly won't be trying the group thing again.
Am I missing something or is there not a character counter for when you are composing text messages on the standard Desire text message app? If there isn't one - is there a recommended alternative solution?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a small but very annoying issue sending texts sometimes...Basically my office has an intermittent signal so occasionally my connectivity drops. If this happens while I'm trying to send a text the message just sits there with the 'processing' animation (the spinning circle thingy) going constantly - it rarely times out and outright fails, usually just continually tries even when I'm back into a good signal area (I've even left it in a good signal area and checked hours later to find it still trying!). I've tried going in and out of airplane mode or even turning the phone off and on to try to get it to just fail so I can send again but nothing makes it give up or succeeed. When it gets into this state the only way out seems to be to delete the message and enter it again. (for info I'm using Handcent, but checking in native message service shows similar effect so don't think thats related)

I understand that this happens by design on some networks if you're sending a text to more than 10 people at once, but I was only sending the same text to 2 people. I'm with T-Mobile and I have unlimited texts as part of my contract, but MMS messages cost 20p each, so obviously I don't want this to happen. Can this be changed so the messages send as regular texts?

She had a BB Curve before and didn't want to go for the free ugprade with the new Curve. I've had an HTC Incredible and for the most part love it. I knew that the LG Ally wasn't as "powerful" as the HTC Incredible. My wife told me today that her Ally sometimes won't send txt messages or will send more than one of the same txt message. She also complained about it being slow. What can I do to get rid of this problem for her? I was considering running the Task Killer although I know Android has its own way of managing memory and running applications so I didn't know if running Task Killer would actually do anything. I think its getting to the point where she is getting frustrated with the phone and I may have to return it, if it is even possible, after her having it just a few days. Any thoughts?
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen my phone is on vibrate, and i revieve a text, my phone lights up but it dosent vibrate and also, sometimes when i recieve a text it dosent go to the bottom of my text messaging list, it goes in the middle, so when i recieve a message, i have to look through all my messages to see which one i just recieved. i've noticed that the time stamp is incorrect on the messages sometimes, which my be the reason.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am thinking there is probably a solution to this but I am unable to find it. When you are on the phone and receive a text I do not get any sort of alert. Previous phones would give me a beep or something to let me know I had gotten a text. However if your phone is set to vibrate as well as ring when you get a text the vibrations still go off but without any noise. It wouldnt be a big deal except the vibrate noise apparently is very audible and annoying to whoever you are on the phone with. I am one of the few who really like the stock messaging application so I am not using hancent or anything like that. Any ideas would be appreciated
