HTC Desire :: can root after OTA froyo update

HTC Desire :: Root Froyo 2.2 With Newest Update

Sep 19, 2010

I have a desire which is updated to froyo and has the new 2.10.405.2 update which is OTA installed on it ( not to sure what the update was for something about RUS keyboard) anyway I was wondering if any of this will effect me rooting my phone and if it is worth rooting seeing as I already have froyo with sense but I was thinking stick vanilla froyo on there to make it faster or a different rom, will doing this make my phone faster and less prone to crashing sense all the time which is what happens now.

Also any risks involved with rooting froyo? Also I have a fully unbranded desire and can sumone suggest a good rom to flash?

HTC Desire :: Root Update Failure - Froyo Not Offering ROM

Nov 4, 2010

So I just rooted my HTC desire but I didn't install a new ROM. Why you may ask because all I wanted to do is install most apps to my SD card because my SD card getting full. I didn't install a ROM because I found out that froyo was not offering this and I had not updated to it but when I try to update I get a quarter of the way thought installing when the bar disappears and a yellow triangle appears behind the android.

I suspect this is because of root. I would very much like to keep with OTA updates if possible. So what would you recommend I do? Proceed with unrooting or update with a RUU or something else?
(FYI I called Talus (my carrier) and they said if the OTA update dose not work after I do a factory reset (already tried) then I could send it in for repair, so I would assume that would reset all the software on my phone thus not being rooted. Would this be an option as my phone is under warranty or would stock ROM but rooted still void it?

HTC Incredible :: How To Root Phone - Froyo Update

Jul 19, 2010

I've been wanting to root my phone for a while, but I haven't had the bills to do it. I saw unrevoked released what looks like a fail proof way of doing it and I'm seriously considering taking the plunge. I'm debating whether or not to root it now or wait to see if this "possible" froyo update comes out later this month.

HTC Incredible :: How To Update Froyo OTA Without Loosing Root Or Settings?

Sep 2, 2010

I am not responsible if this does not work for your case or if you damage your phone in any way. This information is provided to attempt to help other people in the community that were having the same issues I was for the OTA. The way I did my OTA and got root back is this: (simplified version)

- install unrevoked 3, and unrevoked forevor (s-off)
- wait for OTA message
- click install later
- reboot into recovery
- do nand backup
- find and download stock 2.1 recovery zip file
http://adrynalyne.us/?p=41 (stock recovery is here)
- find and download (to a different location) clockworks mod zip file
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever
(near the bottom of the page)
- place stock 2.1 recovery file on root of sd card
- reboot into hboot
- hboot will ask to install recovery update
- click yes
- reboot back to OS
- wait for OTA message
- click install now
- wait for 10-30 minutes while phone does OTA update
- place clockworksmod zip file onto root of sd card (overwriting/deleting the 2.1 stock zip file in the process)
- reboot into Hboot
- when asked allow hboot to update recovery again
- reboot phone
- uninstall any old super user program you had on your phone
- install this new one using the information on this link
[APP] Superuser 2.3.5 - Now on the Market [2010-08-28] - xda-developers

You should now have wonderful froyo with root!

HTC Incredible :: Downgraded To Remove Root - Can't Update To Froyo

Sep 4, 2010

I have followed every guide that I can find. I cannot get my phone to either receive the OTA update and I cannot get it to update manually. This is the error that I get:

assert failed: file_getprop ("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/inc/inc/inc:2.1-update1/ERE27/161494:user/release-keys" || file.getprop ("/system.build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon_wwe/inc/inc/inc:2.2/FRF91/231334:user/release-keys

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

I had a stock Incredible that I rooted with Unrevoked3. I then ran Unrevoked Forever on it and then downgraded to remove root. I placed the 2.2 Update on the sdcard and went through the recovery menu to select it and then try to install it. The above error is what I get everytime I try to update. This is also the same error I got when I tried to accept the OTA when I was rooted (in my grogginess in the morning when I woke up and saw the OTA, I just kept hitting ok having completely forgotten about my phone being rooted). I don't know much about coding other than the little I use to do with Java/C++/HTML in school, but what I am getting out of this is my phone does not like the 2.2 update file. I am assuming that it may have an MD5 Hash in verifying/installing the file that it does not like?

HTC Desire :: Root Froyo

Aug 4, 2010

I have a Desire from Vodafone (UK) that came with its practically invisible branding. Voda recently put out an update (that I have not installed yet) that would load it up with a bunch of branding bloatware. Word is that when they put out their Froyo update, it will have the same unremovable bloatware. I'd rather not have that.

If I root my Desire (with, say, unrEVOked) and install an official stock Froyo ROM (such as was received by those with completely unbranded Desires), what happens after that? Will I then have an essentially unbranded Desire that receives automatic OTA updates for bug-fixes (and, just maybe, Gingerbread)?

Or will I be stuck with a possibly buggy version of Froyo while waiting for a similar root-method to develop to install a bug-fixing patch?

One thing that concerns me the most is, that some users are experiencing problems with the stock browser being laggy.I have a sim free Desire from the CPW.So am i right to hold back and wait for more feedback, as it seems since the update there has been more negativity to froyo than i expected. Or should i take the plunge and update to Froyo now?

HTC Desire :: Froyo RUU Update Available

Aug 12, 2010

With this RUU package you can flash your phone to the current official OTA update i.e. the latest software, radio and bootloader. If you have a branded phone, this will debrand it.This method doesn't require you to root your phone and it doesn't install any unofficial or modified software. If your phone is currently rooted it will remove it.If you install an official branded update to Froyo, e.g. Vodafone's, you will not be able to install this.An alternative installation method that does not need any drivers (or even a computer) is available.

HTC Desire :: Way To Get T-Mobile Froyo Update?

Sep 18, 2010

T-Mobile have finally released their HTC Sense update for the desire this morning. I've been waiting months for this. Everything seemed to go fine on the update, it auto backed up everything to the sd card and on updating all apps were displayed on the home screens as before. I have a problem now though - my internet browser keeps crashing when loading pages. It displays most of the page and reaches about 95% but then closes back to the home screen. I haven't done much to the phone other than installing apps and it generally worked before the update. Using webkit 3.1 browser and tried pages such as failblog, gizmodo and android forums. Any others with this problem?

HTC Desire :: Update Froyo 2.2 For Orange

Sep 20, 2010

this is what i was told when i asked orange about the update

Thank you for your email regarding your HTC Desire phone. Further to our conversation today. Once again please accept my apologies that we are unable to provide a date for the release. Please find below the link discussed to our website on a PC where you are able to check in the future if an update from us has been released. http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?c=OUKPage&catID=1096364420631&cid=109635 9217080&itemid=1221037995178&itemtype=HowTo&mid=11 27450772656&pagename=OUKPersonal&pid=1096364420640 &product=Feature&t=Product&tabid=1 I have also supplied below the required steps that you will need to take in order to organise an update to your phone. Be advised to follow the on-screen instructions as it will give you necessary and required information regarding your phone. "your phone's features" > "download software updates" > "how do I download the latest software update" > "HTC Desire update" When a new update is made available by a handset manufacturer they will pass a version of this to us so that we can run the required tests to confirm that this update they have released will co-exist with the branding that you are required to use on your phone. It is possible that the new update that is released may not co-exist with our branding and thus we will not be able to release the update for the HTC Desire, if they can not co-exist and we were to release this to your phone, this could effectively be detrimental to your handset and we will not process for this reason........

HTC Desire :: O2 FROYO 2.2 Update (27.09.10) - Features

I have seen a few firmware versions of FROYO banded around for the Desire on this Forum. Having updated my O2 Desire yesterday and playing around with it, I was curious how the O2 firmware compares with the rest. My software details are as follows: Android version 2.2. Baseband version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1 Build number 2.14.207.1 CL233777 release-keys Software number 2.14.207.1 Browser version Webkit 3.1. I may be optimistic/delusional but I have discovered some features in the O2 Froyo release from yesterday that were showcased the other day at the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z launch event as being part of the all new HTC Sense.

There is no option in the phone through the menu to update manually in the About Phone section. Has anyone heard what the USCC plan for update will be?
