HTC Desire :: Can't Go Online With ANY Of Programs?
Jul 12, 2010
When I am at home and want to connect to the net using wifi, my Desire connects to the network immediately and has excellent reception. But it can't go online with ANY of my programs, whether to check mail, download updates on the market or just surf. None of the other devices I use at home have any trouble getting online, so it isn't my router or connection (I think). And when I got to my office today, my phone instantly recognized the network here and can go online with no problems. I have had the phone for about two months now, and this problem is only a few days old. Before that I had no issues with this.
I got my Desire last week and I am looking for the best programs and widgets there are, I'd like a better music player because the built-in one doesn't look great, I have an ipod touch and the difference in user-experience is so huge, the Desire doesn't compare and I wish it did. I'd also like some good games (racing, action, puzzle etc.) and anything else you think may be good. Also, is there a program to use the flash next to the camera as a flashlight? I think this would be really handy.
I was looking on web in the last few days and all of the online stores had no stock of this phone currently. I heard new stock is coming in this week and does anyone know which online shops have this in stock NOW and ships outside of UK?
All of a sudden going into "handle programs" in settings on my HTC Desire force closes com.android.settings. BAM! I've tried rebooting several times, no difference. Even tried uninstalling the last application I installed but it still force closes. Now uninstalling through the market works fine, so it does through the astro program handler, but why does my core settings app all of a sudden crash bigtime?I've not rooted the device and I don't have much fishy stuff on it, the most fishy thing I guess is the HTC IME modded keyboard from jonasl that adds the microphone button and a milllion other neafty tricks. I'm not sure if this started happening then or later.
I just installed a custom ROM (LeeDroid 2.1a with A2SD+), which installs Froyo version of Android. (Apps install on an EXT3 partition of the SD Card, that the phone thinks is internal memory). However, roughly 25% of apps don't work (ie. Swype, HTC's More Widgets (ie. Dice), TypoClock) . Whether I use Sense or LauncherPro, the same result. Either they don't show up in the app drawer (but can be seen in Applications), or can't be launched (via Quick Info). The apps installed via the Android Market show as installed, but the OPEN button is greyed out. These are apps that worked before on 2.1 Eclair. So with no more info than "Cannot launch application", I can't figure out if its Froyo or the custom ROM (LeeDroid A2SD+) that's the "root" of the problem.
I am in a deployed location in Afghanistan and within my compound, we utilize satellite internet and broadcast it via WIFI just for us who have paid. Some of the guys here have implemented a few security features so other people around us can hack our network. The WIFI is encrypted with WPA2 and a password. After that to surf on the internet on my laptop I have to input a proxy address of 10.10.8.2, I can connect to the wireless via my Desire, but I cant surf the internet, check email, or do anything that requires a data connection.Other people here have no problem getting their Ipod touches and Iphones on the WIFI.Is there some setting I am over looking because to me there are not a lot of settings I can change in the first place. If I need to download a program to help, please give info how to do so without an internet connection directly on the phone.
Just got an HTC Desire through O2 in the UK as an upgrade to my old SE P1i. Happy with it so far, still going through it trying to turn off and disable loads of stuff though. Here's some initial questions:
1) I got the Force Close Button program from the marketplace. Should I be using that to close programs to save battery life? Or should I just leave everything running in the background? Camera, web browser, email, calendar and whatever else I've ever used since I last cycled the power. 2) Is there a particular Task Manager program I should look at? I've got ES File Manager and notice they do a Task Manager as well but didn't know if there's any others that people recommend. 3) Is there a way to disable the SMS threaded/conversation view in the stock SMS program? 4) And to supress the deletion prompt in SMS?...........
This phone is so fast, especially on the home screens. It doesn't matter how many apps or widgets I put on the "desktop" it still scrolls smoothly. However, the same cannot be said for the "all programs" list. It is not laggy, but it could scroll more smoothly. It seems to start smoothly but as you scroll down it gets a little jerky. Anyone else notice this? Other menus seem very smooth in comparison.
Just wondering what everyone is using to RIP DVDs. I saw the information about Handbrake but that seems like a lot of work and I don't mind paying for software. I am trying out Xilisoft DVD Ripper, they have a Blu-Ray version. I am testing it out now, but it is taking like 3 hours to RIP a Blu-Ray DVD. Is this normal?
I'm a Pre user that is in envy of everyone that has an EVO. I will likely get the phone in the coming weeks and plan to go through Best Buy so I can avoid the $100 mail-in rebate plus i have some rewards zone certificates to apply towards it. Unfortunately Best Buy in Utah does not carry Sprint phones, but of course I can order online.
Has anyone ordered online from Best Buy? How was the experience? How long does shipping take? Please update me as you get your EVO's from Best Buy online.
I do not consider my G1 to be a phone. My old second hand Nokia 6100 was a better phone because it was so small and light weight. Why I bought the G1 is because I consider my G1 to be a Mini Laptop. But we need better program for it. I need a graphic program like the Paint Shop Pro 4 where I can resize and fix photos. I still have not figured out how to connect to WiFi and call the USA for free (I am in Vietnam) BUT G Voice should be doing something in a few weeks. I will wait for them. Tonight I downloaded the USB connection program so my G1 can make my computer in my hotel connect to internet but edge network here is expensive. I did find a way to stop the phone from Sniffing the EDGE network. I mess up the name in the APN code by adding xxx to the end. Then it will not connect to DATA.
My company has blocked access to SMS messages on our phones, yet we have an unlimited data plan. Does anyone know of an alternative program you can use for SMS type messages that you don't get charged for per message?
Click on All programs > Click on Search button, type a character. The filter does not go away even after you have exited the menu. Any other way to show all programs without restart? Is it only mine or is it a bug in Hero?
In HTC, I get the option to add widgets, programs, shortcuts and folders to my home screen. Using LP, I only have the option to add to dock or home screen shortcuts, widgets, folders, and wallpaper; no programs. I especially want to add programs like Jorte to my dock. I'm sure that I am missing something easy but I cannot figure it out. I really like LP but I am frustrated.
I am currently building a simple application for Android using the NDK and needs to get the coordinates from the GPS. I've searched the web, but have come up empty handed. Is there some API or such for NDK-programs to access the GPS?
I called sprint this morning and checked google. It seems the referal program is no more? I have 3 family members switching fromm AT&T and Alltel too! Anyone know if there are other referal programs that I can't find.
All programs on my phone recently seem to want to randomly end from time to time. All apps seem to be experiencing this issue, IE stock apps (SMS, Browser) and a variety of apps from the market. It's happened before and after the 2/2 OTA, and obviously a restart did not fix this issue.
This doesn't seem to discriminate if other apps are running. I've had this happen on the SMS app with the stock KB, shortly after a restart without anything else running.
In native development, you can produce libraries - .so, .dll etc - that other libraries and programs can share. In Java, you can put your code in a JAR in the classpath and other programs and libraries can use it.So how can you do modular programs in Android? I get the impression from the documentation that each APK is a self-contained island. Can different APKs share code?
And how does installation work when you have these external dependencies? Can you specify that you rely on library that is not in your APK and get it installed too?If you can't have 'dynamic linking', can you have 'static linking' by developing your shared code and somehow putting the equiv of a JAR into each APK that requires it?
