I am getting a Desire next week. How many apps you can install on the internal memory without 'rooting' it? I'll probably install a lot of apps when I get mine next wednesday (I already have made a list of over 30!) and I would really like to avoid rooting it as it will probably void the warranty and I am not sure I could do it anyway - even after reading the step by step guide a few times over. How many apps have you all managed to fit in before getting the memory low message that some have reported?View 26 Replies View Related
I have just used the instructions on this forum to first root my phone, and then install New 2.2 on to my desire. What a improvement in performance and Shockwave flash works. But I can't install on to my SD Card at all. If I download a app from the market (or my pc) which is set to install on extrenal storage (SD Card), it downloads and the installation fails. I also can't use APP 2 SD as when I try and copy to memory it fails. so if I then unmount my SD Card, and install the same app, it installs and works fine. So do I need to do something to my SD Card?View 10 Replies View Related

I have just rooted my desire and its fine, i did a back up too so ive not lost anything and its working fine, but im trying to still figure out how to make a default setting of some kind so my apps save to my SD card rather than internal memory. also im trying to become more aware of the benefits of rooting now ive done it besides the increase in phone performance etc and things like that.View 3 Replies View Related
i was wondering what apps are safe to move and which ones just wont move. I know system apps and those that use widgets are a no no. But what about Google maps, facebook, gmail, astro and Adobe flash player (12.4) mb?
Maybe we could have a list of what not to move here?
Just installed the new update but I haven't come across one app that can be moved to SD yet. Can someone give me an example of one that definitely can so I can check?View 9 Replies View Related
I have some 80MB left on the phones memory, I have downloaded a lot of apps, tried them and deleted most of them (but far from all). There are still a lot of apps I would like to DL and try out, but before doing that I would like to move as much as possible to the SD card, it says I have 3.67 GB available, so plenty of room. However When I go to Applications--> Manage Applications the ption to move them to the SD card is grayed out and the option is not available to me. What do I need to do to turn it on?View 9 Replies View Related
I only heard about this today from a telus rep. I thought apps were saved to internal when that was full it moved to sd automatically. No it only goes to internal memory DANG! so that means i can only have a few downloaded at a time. Whats the solution? Will 2.2 fix it? I heard 3.0 will?View 18 Replies View Related
I have update my "orange desire" to 2.2 but for some reason I cannot move many apps to sd (only a few will move), can anybody help is my handset faulty or is this normal it is not rooted, is there a way of getting all apps to sd?View 2 Replies View Related
This requires Froyo 2.2
It doesn't void your warranty
It doesn't delete existing apps
It's perfectly safe
It doesn't require rooting.
I realise there are a few threads about this, but I thought I would make a new one for my easier guide, and hopefully people will find it more easily as they won't have to scroll through pages of other threads to find an answer. I am now successfully running most apps from my SD Card now. I just thought I would make an easier guide as the others are fairly complex for noobs like me............
Just followed instructions on how to move apps to sd card on an unrooted device....all worked well, moved what i wanted to, but would now like to put phone back to default settings to install apps to phone memory.
I tried to open run command on my pc with phone connected and typed pm setInstallLocation 0.....but all that comes up is command is not recognized.
So I've downloaded the Tajm and Battstatt which are widgets and for some reason they're downloading directly to my sdcard. So while I have them on my homescreen and I reboot my phone they will not show up anymore. So I decide to move them to my phone memory and when I do they no longer show up on the widgets list anymore.View 2 Replies View Related
Does all apps etc get saved by default to the phone memory or the SD card?? Also, when I plug in via the USB cable and want to transfer some videos and photos across from my old phone, are they saved to the SD card? Is there any way of checking what is saved to where?View 4 Replies View Related
I picked up my captivate on launch day and its my first android device, so far I love it!
Anyway quick question, since AT&T blocks off apps such as PDAnet and WiFi tethering apps of the market place, if I were to root, would I be able to get one of these apps? WiFi tethering is really important to me, I always used it on my old phone.
I've been lurking the rooting scene and other places for quite a while, but have only just joined up in these forums. (I'm no forum nooby been on and been active on dozens of forums)
I have to admit, this most likely has been answered before, but I have been extremely busy lately due to school.
The question: I have refrained from rooting my Hero (I am a linux user in case any one wanted to know ) due to time constraints, I have yet to root it. I will probably attempt this weekend.
I bought the hero Oct. 11th, the day it came out iirc, and I have built up quite a hefty sum of applications.
After the rooting process, I plan use the gumbo kernel, and fresh1.1. One of the reasons that have held me from rooting is what happens to those apps? I will flash Fresh1.1, so they will be deleted. Is there a way to extract all the applications from the nandroid backup I will make before flashing Fresh 1.1, and put them on the SD card and install them? I would love very much not to have to go and individually download each application from the market again.
Last night I rooted my Evo (Android 2.1) using Unrevoked 3.21, then flashed the new Fresh ROM and radios. I encountered several "gotchas" that may help others doing the same thing.
1. I had to try the Unrevoked program four times before the root "took". The first three times I got the message "Unable to obtain root. This happens sometimes" message. I would actually like to know (at least at a high level) why it failed the first three times. I tried it on a Win XP laptop the first two times, then switched to a Windows Vista machine, then back to my XP machine when it finally worked.
2. After verifying that my rooted Android 2.1 was working ok, I decided to flash the new Fresh ROM. First, I did a Titanium backup of everything on the phone, that went fast (although the Titanium interface could be improved. You have to go into the menu and select Batch to do the actual backup). As a fail-safe, I tried to do a backup of apps + data using MyBackup Pro. Unfortunately, it kept hanging on the app backup, so I just did a data backup. I also did an Astro backup of the apps, and (of course) I also did a nandroid backup of the current ROM (thanks to the good advice on this forum).
3. I then did a factory reset and cache wipe of the phone, then went ahead and flashed the latest Fresh ROM and radios. Both went very smoothly, I checked the version of the ROM and baseband in the phone settings and they match. Unfortunately, restoring the apps and data did NOT go smoothly at all. First, I discovered that Titanium doesn't seem to work as advertised. It didn't back up all my apps (I have over 150, guess that's a lot, but still!). A good example was Folder Organizer. It didn't get backed up so I had to re-download it. Next, Titanium didn't restore any of my data, SMS, call logs, home screen settings, nada. Fortunately, the MyBackup Pro data backup had almost all of that stuff, so I was able to get most of it back. The Astro backup was pretty useless the app list is not sorted by name (it uses the "com" package name") so it's virtually impossible to find what you're looking for. Lesson learned: if you've heavily customized your home screens, maybe flashing ROM's is not for you. If there's a better way to restore apps and settings after flashing, let us know!
4. Finally (and I believe this is a known issue) the FriendStream widget and Facebook contact linking is not working with this ROM.
At least I'm rooted now. Wireless tether works, the ROM works as advertised (scrolling and transitions are noticeably smoother due to the frame rate mod). I haven't had a chance to test 4G, I've got it turned on and will test around town. If it doesn't work then I'll restore the nandroid backup and go back to stock.
Im new to this android rooting. So i used Odin to install root on my android (well at least i think it worked. said passed but then things stopped working. Its a samsung s3 mini, GT-i1890N and it passed but now alot of things are suddenly having issues such as applications such as touchwhiz keeps stopping, i tried the options/ applicationmanager/clear cache option that i keep hearing online as a solution and it didn't work.View 2 Replies View Related
I rooted my HTC Incredible last week and installed the Virtuous ROM with froyo 2.2. I recently realized that after doing this there are a ton of apps missing from the android market. Even ones that I already have installed on my phone like Evernote and Google Sky Map. If I go to the downloads section of the market which should show the apps I have installed it shows none.
The verizon section of the market displays only three applications when I know there should be a whole lot more. What is going on? I cannot find any apps. When I search for something there is usually one or two apps that show up and are not even what I was looking for. Is this a widespread problem with the market or a side effect of rooting and upgrading to the virtuous ROM?
I'm going to root my phone tonight once home from EMS crew. I want to keep my Stock SD card so that if anything happens I can just pop it back in. With the new one, will I need to preinstall all current and stock files/ folders or will it be formatted once I put it in for the first time pre-root?View 3 Replies View Related

I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?
If I happen to sell my SD card will my Eris remain rooted? Or will everything just go back to stock since I don't have the card in my phone anymore? Also, what would a fair price be for a used Scandisc 16 GB SD card? I have it listed for $35. Too high? Too low?View 1 Replies View Related
ever since i rooted my phone, ive been having problems with my evo memory card. i formated it and everything tried different roms but same thing happens whenever i take a picture, listen to music, or anything involving the memory card. all apps crash except for the camera which says cannot save files to the SD card due to insufficient file permissions.View 1 Replies View Related
I did a search and couldn't find anything on this.I am still using the stock 2GB microSD card, and looking to root. Can I root with my current card (which has 650MB-ish available), and after rooting just purchase a new card and swap it out. Or would it be more advantageous to purchase the new SD card prior to rooting?View 2 Replies View Related
I'm looking for some help. I have the HTC Hero and I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to rooting or anything like that at all. I'm willing to pay someone for their time for this: I need someone to walk me through the whole process of rooting my phone and then be able to move my downloaded apps onto my SD card.If someone is interested in helping, please let me know. I'm sure for a lot of you this is a pretty simple thing, but for myself, well I have two left hands.
Can this be rooted yet without that SD card yanking stuff?View 5 Replies View Related
I own a GIONEE P2 mobile phone with MTK6572 processor and android 4.2.2. I successfully rooted the phone and it was working fine until my internet stopped one morning and upon restarting the phone, it wrote SIM1: SIM card not detected, SIM2: sim card not detected. I have tried all I could yet no avail as I can't use SIM card in the phone. I used MTK droid tool but nothing could be done, also entering engineering mode with ##4636##, the radio remained permanently turned off and couldn't turn on. I used IMEI tools to rewrite and replace the NVRAM files yet nothing happened. it has been very frustrating trying to find a solution but none found. WIFI and bluetooth still work fine.View 1 Replies View Related

So I've tried and tried again using RA and other linux based programs (GParted) to get my 8GB card to partition for apps2sd. Everything always runs smoothly and shows that the card is partitioned correctly. But then upon reboot the SD card shows full fat32 memory (6.9 GB). No matter what I do, after reboot, the partitions never happen. When I used GParted, and then loaded the SD card on the phone it always says that the SD card is damaged and I need to reformat. I've done that and rerun everything to no avail. Someone please tell me this issue is that the SD card is corrupted and I should give up. Because I've followed everything to a T as far as partitioning. With that I'll say that I had no problems rooting my phone, flashing ROM's/RA's, etc, and have been able to do whatever I want as far as new things to load. I've finally decided after all this time to do apps2sd, and I literally screwed around for 5+ hrs today, trying to partition the SD card properly. Any thoughts?View 8 Replies View Related
Any trick to root new xolo a800 and swap sd card?

In the thread that has a guide to rooting with unrevoked 3 it states that you should have a 2gig available on the sd card, but also states if you have less than 4 gigs available you must format. Is it ok then to format the card if its only 2gigs to being with and root it that way? Sorry sounds confusing, I'm just wondering if 2gigs is enough.View 6 Replies View Related
I know this 2.1 is out of control, I was just curious about the option of being able to save apps to the SD card on 2.1 or without rooting? It sucks having to decide which apps are least important.View 3 Replies View Related

Anyway, we all got 2.2 now and can "move apps to the SD" card. I presume one might want to move apps to the SD card to "free up some space" but is that the ONLY reason to move the apps to the card?? Is anyone NOT WAITING until space on the phone is an issue and moving the apps to the card right now?? Are there certain apps that are recommended to be on the phone for proper/faster performance? (I know this was an issue with the Palm Centro I used to have where certain apps HAD TO reside on and launch from the phone)?? What are the general pros/cons (if any, besides "saving space," perhaps regarding performance or other concerns) with leaving apps on the phone vs. the SD card?View 2 Replies View Related
