HTC Desire :: Increased Life For Battery

Aug 12, 2010

I can take no credit for this as I read about it over on XDA but after trying it out exactly as mentioned I can 110% state my battery improved immediately.I was usually getting a day tops sometimes loosing all juice around 11pm after being unplugged from around 7.30am. Well I stumbled across this in a thread discussing the Neophyte Rom im using and it actually worked for me. Yesterday after a good 20 - 30 minutes of phone calls , lots of emails and texts I went to bed at about 12.40 am and my battery was at 60% still. Now today after being unplugged for 2.5 hrs Ive had around 3 emails 1 text and 4 minutes worth of phone calls I'm still on 96%. I have 3G on all the time 1 email account updates every 30 minutes and gmail is push, twitter updates every hour. I dont have wifi on and my screen brightness is 20%. I am rooted and running SETCPU with the CPU down to minimum when the screen is off, but I had that before also. So all in all try it out and see if it works for you, I think it has for me.

Motorola Droid :: BB 1.0 Battery Life / Greatly Increased

May 16, 2010

Anyone else notice any improvement in battery life with Bugless Beast V1? I had pretty harsh battery life not too long ago, but for the past few days I've been using my phone more than usual, and it's been lasting much longer than before.. I'm almost back to my 18-20 hour days that I was used to before.I don't know what happened but I'm glad it did! I haven't added/removed any apps or changed anything really.which is odd.

HTC Desire :: HTC Desire Battery Life / Power Savers

Apr 16, 2010

I'm thinking of getting the HTC desire when it releases in the US and I know it has already in Europe. I'm one of those people that would use the phone for internet, texting, probably not emailing.I'm interesting in what you guys' batter life is.Like if you had 3g off and all those battery saving tips.Like manual switching 3g on when needed etc.Since I want an accurate time to go by because I'm going to do the exact thing when I get mine.Using battery saving tips for max.As well if any hardcore power saving iphone users can post their times as well since I can't find anything on the web relating to that.

HTC Desire :: Battery Life In 2.2

Jul 25, 2010

I rooted and put "Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM". Seems to work fine, however, I have a feeling that battery life is worse, especially when using the net. However, maybe it's just in my head. What are your experiences with battery life after upgrading to 2.2? And please, don't make silly "I surfed the web for 12 hours and still have 25% left" claims Also, I'm not interested in other ROMs, as I want a clean sense experience with no modifications (as close as possible to the way HTC made it)So - 2.2 and battery life: same, worse or better than on 2.1 that came with your Desire?

HTC Desire HD :: No More Lag - Better Battery Life

Nov 10, 2010

What started as a discussion over at XDA-Developers to try and resolve serious lag problems that some users experienced with their DHD is now proving to be a resolution to most of the problems reported with this device. Apparently turning 'usb debugging mode' ON is the resolution. The thread was first started by a user who noticed that whenever he was experiencing lag issues an Android process called /INIT was taking anywhere from 70% to 100% of his CPU usage. /INIT is a core process to the Android bootup sequence which should go 'dormant' after the bootup itself. What many users noticed after this was found is that whenever the lag problems started /INIT would take some 90% of the phone's CPU usage and not go back to its 'dormant' state. Even when the phone was idle and not being used. After applying the fix many people are reporting the phone running as smooth as they have even seen it running. Also users are reporting that recording video is no longer jerky and they can browse through the gallery smoothly and with no delays. The more relevant yet, and what may prove to be the best contribution from all this, is that some users are now reporting really amazing battery life performance. Its important to say that the so-called 'bug' doesnt seem to be HTC related but rather an Android 2.2 issue, as the performance issues are also being reported on other handsets running the latest Google OS - with some sources reporting that Google is soon to release an update to Froyo 2.2, possibly to resolve this bug. In order to turn 'usb debugging mode' ON go to: menu >> settings >> applications >> development.

HTC Desire :: Battery Life Is Quite Good?

May 31, 2010

So after all the horror stories about battery life I was kinda worried about my new Desire especially as I am a full brightness, 3G loving kinda man. But having got the phone on saturday, I have found it quite good. I mean, I played with it almost constantly for about 8 hours, and I still had 30% charge left.

Normal usage would be maybe an 2 hours or so per day, so i don't think there is any danger I'm gonna run outta juice at work. Also, when sleeping, I don't seem to lose any battery power at all, despite the experiences of others. Anyone else think the battery problems are overblown?

HTC Desire :: Battery Life Increase

Sep 7, 2010

According to a lecturer at uni, mobile devices use more power when they have to try and hold a connection (wifi or mobile network) that is further away.

Apparently moving your router closer will allow the device to conserve energy by allowing it to power down it's radio because it's not having to broadcast it's signal as far. This also extends to cell towers - it seems living a long way away from one will make your phone work harder to keep a 3G/EDGE/GPRS signal and thus wastes battery. I'm inclined to take his word for it, what with a PhD under his belt on the subject!

Heres a new battery saving tip

I think this holds some truth, when I was in London over the summer I swear my battery used to die so much quicker because it kept having to try desperately to hold onto weak signals being blocked by all the built up areas. Not a lot anyone can do about it but it might go some way to explaining the differences in battery life people are reporting.

HTC Desire :: Froyo And Battery Life ?

Aug 27, 2010

Here is just a quick photo of my desire just bordering on 2 days use which it did last to 2 Days and 2 Hours post photograph without charging:

This was based on medium to light usage I might add, phone calls, texts, market use, web browsing and around half an hour mp3 player usage. No gaming as I do find gaming using anything other than the "oid" range of emulators kills battery life fast. However heavy use generally nets me minimum 20 hours. Sorry about the dodgy picture, trying to get a decent close up shot using my N95 wasn't easy...

HTC Desire :: Getting 3 Hours Of Battery Life With Normal Use

May 31, 2010

I've been using my Desire for three days now, and been quite happy with it. Except for the fact that I can barely get three hours of battery life out of it, with "normal" use. (A couple of text messages/MSN conversations, quick web browsing every now and then). I've tried everything, turning syncs to 6 hours intervals, switching off 3G and WiFi, reducing screen brightness etc.

But the battery still loses about 1% per 1 minute. This can't be normal, right? Is this something that will improve over time? Could I have a faulty battery that needs replacing? I don't have unrealistic expectations for the battery life, just lasting for a full working day is enough for me, and I assume that should be possible.

HTC Desire :: SetCPU - Increase Battery Life

Sep 6, 2010

SetCPU claims to be able to increase your battery life by limiting the speed your processor can run at. This seems like sound reasoning at first, but then I remember roughly what a CPU is and how it works...

So let's say you've set a profile so that when the screen is off it will be limited to half the clock speed; around 500mHz. Lets then say your email wants to get updated, so your processor chugs away that that. If it was set to full capacity it may take say, 1 second to complete the task then go back to it's idol state. With SetCPU limiting it, it would take twice as long and would still use exactly the same number of cycles as before.

In fact, when you think about it, it doesn't actually matter what speed your phones processor is running at all the time, what matters is how much work you're asking it to do. Surely the best and only way to increase battery life is to simply have your processor complete less tasks, therefore using less clock cycles? Sending a text message uses the same amount of clock cycles no matter what your max setting is, so as a result uses the same amount of power.

If anything, having SetCPU running all the time just gives your phone more work to do and therefore decreases battery life?

HTC Desire :: Battery Life - Breakdown Of Usage

Sep 27, 2010

We've all heard the horror stories (I just bought my Desire and the battery lasts for about 4 hours!) and the fanboy wankery (I get at least 3 days of heavy use!) So today I unplugged my Desire at about 6am and set off for work. It's 7pmish now and here's some stuff you may like to look at. I have 3G disabled, Sync on manual, no "live" widgets (just WiFi and bluetooth) live wallpaper (nexus) and screen brightness on auto. Here's the battery status (rounded up from 25% according to Battery Info in the Testing app)

The breakdown of usage:
My phone was idle for 9 hours and 45 mins:
The Display was on for a mere 2hours and 46 mins
With only 1.5 hours of WiFi:
And 30 mins of calls:
So, that'll be less than 3 hours of usage.

HTC Desire :: Technology Improving But Not Battery Life?

Jul 6, 2010

Who will take the battery life into consideration when buying a phone? In my opinion, most people who look out for phones do not consider battery life, most would consider stuff like technology, physical looks etc., but not battery life. Even if there are people who consider battery life, those are just the minority. Hence there are lots of controversy regarding the battery life. Most might agree that the battery is just right, however it is no surprise if people complain about battery life running out too quickly. Is technology improving but not batteries? It seems like phones are getting better everyday, but the battery life has like been stagnant.

HTC Desire :: Zoom In On Map Or Web Page - Battery Life?

May 22, 2010

I've been eying the HTC Desire for a few days now. One thing that bothers me is the battery life. If I buy this (or any of these battery hungry phones) is I have to be prepared to charge it.

1) The phone does not seem to come with a cradle. There seem to be a few after market cradles out there, are they all created equal? Do any of them work better than others? For example, do all the cradles do usb sync and recharge the battery?
2) How long does it take to recharge the Desire from fully flat?
3) I have not physically used one of these phones. All the stores have only a plastic mock-up. Can someone tell me if the sort of multi-touch that the iPhone has where you can zoom in on a map or web page by opening it with your fingers or using two fingers to scroll around a page? If not, is there some easy way to add this capability with some add-on?

HTC Desire :: 100% Awake Time - Short Battery Life

Apr 19, 2010

I got the fantastic Desire friday and I'm really enjoying it so far coming from iPhone and Hero.

Unfortunately I've run into a little issue: Up time and awake time (in Settings>About phone>Battery) are almost the same, meaning that the CPU never correctly throttles down when the phone is asleep. This is causing battery life to be rather short - On average I get 10-15 hours out of the phone with moderate settings.

By going to the battery info console (type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer) I managed to figure out that the calendar in some way is running and preventing the phone from sleeping (Partial wake in top dropdown). I did a factory reset and it hasn't seemed to help. There are 2 calendar related apps running: Obexservice and connectivityservice.

HTC Desire : Extremely Bad Battery Life - Running Froyo

Aug 22, 2010

After the 2.2 update, my battery has been starting to be extremely bad. I recharged it yesterday until it was 100% charged. Now, 18 hours later, the battery is at 15%.

I only used my HTC Desire to do this:

1. Listening to offline songs through Wimp, a Spotify-clone, for about an hour.

2. Texting 3-4 sms.

3. Doing 1 call.

4. Having it on while I was asleep.

My battery was usually lasting 3-4 days with this kind of use, but now it's so bad.

Here are the running apps (if that is of anyones interest):
com.fd.httpd - 2.9MB
net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog - 2.9MB
com.metago.astro - 2.8MB
com.aspiro.wamp - 10MB
com.lookout - 4.4MB
com.htc.bgp - 12MB
com.google.process.gapps - 7.6MB
com.facebook.katana - 14MB
com.swype.android.inputmethod - 15MB

Does anyone suffer from something similar?

HTC Desire : Preserving Battery Life / Should Background Data Be Switched Off

Jun 26, 2010

It seems that one of the biggest drains on the battery is apps synchronizing constantly but I'm still confused as to how to set the phone up with this in mind! Should Background data be switched off?! What's the difference between Background data and Auto-sync in settings? Which should be on, or should both be off?

I guess what I'm ideally looking for is one button I can press on my Homescreen which will sync everything when I want it to, say a couple of times a day. I'm thinking gmail, news and sports updates, weather, that sort of thing.

Or am I being too fussy? It seems a shame to have such a clever phone but have to have everything switched off because of the battery. I'm tempted to have everything switched on constantly and just charge it all night every night, have it on charge at work and carry a charger in the car just in case. Does anyone else do this?

If people more knowledgeable than me about this (not difficult ) could post how they have their phones set up this would be extremely useful to me and I'm sure lots of other peeps!

I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with this - phone has only been on for 2 hours after an all night charge, I've done practically nothing with it and the battery indicator in the notification bar has already run down slightly!

HTC Desire HD :: Installed Applications Delete Option Greyed Out (Battery Life)

2. Can I create a sub folder in the menu tree and move like games into one. I have created a sub folder on the home page, but cant rename it from 'folder'
3. My phone picks up WiFi signal at home everytime I am in range. Does this mean WiFi is always on, searching. My experience from my E71 showed me this kills battery. I seem to struggle to get more than 10 hours life from the battery, what gives.

HTC Desire Z :: Phone With Good Battery Life - Reasonable Size And Weight

Nov 10, 2010

I currently have the Samsung Galaxy (I7500). I have it for a year+ now. A couple of months ago I wanted to buy the Desire, but I decided its too early for an upgrade (big mistake). It's very hard for me to keep waiting for the perfect device since I hate my galaxy so much. So my question is which phone would you recommend?
IPhone 4 no way ofcourse, Samsung Galaxy S no way cause Samsung really screwed things up with the original galaxy (and it has no Flash), which leaves me with HTC Desire HD or Desire Z. The DHD has an extremely weak battery, and I want my next phone to last a day (moderate user). So, is the Desire Z worth the money? The things that bother me with the Desire Z are:

1. Weight - It weigh 180 grams! Thats sick, way too much. (the Desire is about 135, which isn't light, but not heavy either)
2. Battery life - I'm not sure how long does it last under moderate usage.
3. Size - its quite big, and its especially because of the keyboard, which I don't really need / care about. So, Whats your opinion?

HTC Desire :: Close Programs To Save Battery Life - Task Manager?

Jun 11, 2010

Just got an HTC Desire through O2 in the UK as an upgrade to my old SE P1i. Happy with it so far, still going through it trying to turn off and disable loads of stuff though. Here's some initial questions:

1) I got the Force Close Button program from the marketplace. Should I be using that to close programs to save battery life?
Or should I just leave everything running in the background? Camera, web browser, email, calendar and whatever else I've ever used since I last cycled the power.
2) Is there a particular Task Manager program I should look at? I've got ES File Manager and notice they do a Task Manager as well but didn't know if there's any others that people recommend.
3) Is there a way to disable the SMS threaded/conversation view in the stock SMS program?
4) And to supress the deletion prompt in SMS?...........
