HTC Desire : How Can You Backup Froyo Phone - Setting Completely Hidden?
Sep 25, 2010
I am concerned that were something to happen to my phone, an HTC Desire, during updates and app installs for instance, that I would lose everything. So my simple question is, how can you back up a froyo HTC Desire phone?
I am aware that the Privacy -> Backup option has mysteriously disappeared from the Settings menu, and that in order to see it, you need to do the following:
Menu -> Settings -> Search -> Searchable Items ->
- Web (untick)
- Settings (tick)
Now, you need to click the Search button and search for Privacy. You should then see the Privacy- HTC global search item.
Select this and Backup and Restore appears, with the following options:
- Back up my settings
- Automatic restore
Some questions I have relating to this missing feature are:
- Why is this setting completely hidden? Are we not supposed to use it?
- Does it actually work? Has anyone successfully used it?
- When you select to Back up my settings nothing appears to happen. The phone does not appear to start syncing, so how do you know if anything has been backed up? How long should you wait after selecting the option before knowing that you have a backup available?
- Where is the data stored? Can you verify it?
I find it rather strange that I cannot find the answers to these questions in the public domain, so I am asking them here, in case anyone has any insights into it all.
Ignoring the above "missing" option, are there any other ways to successfully back up my phone using 3rd party apps? Which ones work with froyo?
I'm getting my Dinc replaced under warrantee due to dust under the screen and the camera lens starting to fall off for no reason. I want to back up the device as completely as possible, but the main thing I want are the apps. I have a lot of apps and it'd be a pain to re-download all of them. What is the best way of doing this? Is there an app or...?
I posted this in the 2.2 thread but it seems to have been overlooked so I will ask here instead. The option to allow the phone to backup automatically to SD card in Settings > Privacy have gone, does anyone know where the setting is now or even if a backup option is even available in froyo 2.2, because i can't find it anywhere even after a factory reset.
In the calendars menu i have 3 calendars on my desire, my calendar, pc sync calendar and a calendar i set up called annie calendar. i know i can deselect the calendars i don't want to use but how can i remove the calendars from the phone completely?
I have problem setting brightness manually. When i set brightness level at minimum, the screen goes completely black. Hard reset and change ROM don't fix the problem. The phone is a nexus 4 . looking at youtube i discovered this video.URL....
These day low on space notification has come up and i was trying to discover what happens and i noticed that the facebook app was 10mb. I have previously checked my apps and it was 7 mb. On cyrket it says that it is 2 mb (http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.facebook.katana/). My question is can i clean this hidden cache from facebook and other apps (twitter also is 10 mb) without rooting.
Just got HTC Desire on eBay. Seems new as advertised and certainly all cables charger etc. in original packaging. The manual; says that when I switch on for the first time quote 'the phone displays tutorials and guides you to set up your email accounts and favorite social networks such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. You can follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup, or skip the setup and do it at another time. This didn't happen when I switched on. Will it happen if I do a factory reset?
What is the best way to backup a non-rooted phone? I've searched for threads etc, but it seems that different products only backup certain info, some requiring root.I just want to backup my settings, apps and data to the SD card, or if at all possible an ftp / scp server.
I had a desire, but i have got a new one from my network as the new one is unlocked, is there anyway to bckup my phone settings so i can put it on the new desire? E.g through pc or phone . And secondly can I d same with my apps?
Does anyone know if there is a app, or phone mod that allows you to access the SD Card on the phone, at the same time as it's being used as a drive.I'm getting tired of transferring things like icons, and wallpaper to my phone, then having to unmount the drive before I can use them. Especially if I'm just trying out new icons. Is it possible to have my desire set to disk drive, and access it at the same time?
Is there anybody here with a Froyo Rom flashed on their phone? Flash 10.1 is out in the market and I would love to know how well it works. I have been running Froyo for a couple of days but rolled back this morning. I just can't face going back without good reason.
Warning - confussed noob. Currently running on HTC Desire (Telstra): Build Ver: 1.16.841.1 I have downloaded from Shipped ROMS: RUU _ Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.0 0.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe. If I do not want to root, do I just run the above EXE? Can I downgrade afterwards by just using the HTC Telstra ROM EXE? (HTC desire_RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.16.841.1_Radio_32.3 0.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_126124_signed.exe)
Its probably already on here , but i'm new to the forum. I have got an o2 branded htc desire and want to put the froyo 2.2 update on it. I am a mac use and every way i have seen so far is for pc users. Has anyone come across a possiblity for this for mac users.
I would like to do a whole backup of the phone and messages, apps, music etc.
I see that on the phone there is an option to do Auto backup to the SD card, which I have just ticked. My question on is is that..how long does it take to backup, and when does this happen? As I have had no messages to tell me if this is working.
Also, is there a way to manually backup the same data, using an app or something like that?
Received the upgrade from Telstra Australia today for my Desire. I'm not very good with the tech and software side of things (quite a dunce really) and have looked for a guide as to what to do prior to installing the update and also once completed. Is anyone able to steer me in the right direction as to where a good guide is or maybe a few pointers. My phone isn't rooted and is not something I want to gamble with being not techsavvy.
I got my desire on Orange, anyway its overheating so have been told to send it back, only issue is I debranded it I just put official FroYo on it, Would I get away with it? Its not going direct to Orange but the online retailer I got it off, could I just act stupid or something?
The phone is the htc desire, it's unlocked but not unbranded from t-mobile and currently with o2. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time i updated it caused my wifi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair.
Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. So question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on Tmobile). Will it lock the phone again?
