HTC Desire :: Exchange 2003 - MAIL App - Cant Get GAL Lookup - Global Address List - To Work

Apr 19, 2010

Anyone here using HTC Desire's Mail app to connect to Exchange 2003 server?

Everything's working great except I can't get GAL Lookup (Global Address List) to work. Mail's downloading just fine, Calendar sync's great and Contact sync's good.. but that critical moment when you want to shoot off an urgent note to an office colleague & can't remember his email handle... bummer! Stuck!

Strangely, in NexusOne when I had to rely on Touchdown by Nitrodesk, the Address Lookup worked just fine...

HTC bug perhaps? Of all the issues, I think this is Desire's biggest.

HTC Desire :: Global Exchange Address Book - Work On Native App?

Jul 12, 2010

I have just got my HTC Desire up and running with my work email. All works well except when I attempt to search my "company directory" there are always 0 results!

I have tried an application called Touchdown (something that many members of this forum have suggested) and can confirm that they address book searching works perfectly fine.

Does anyone know how I can get it to work on the native app? I have the latest HTC Desire firmware with software number 1.21.405.2

Android :: Activesynch With Exchange 2003 SP2

Nov 15, 2010

I have several Android users that have an interesting issue when they use ActiveSynch with Exchange 2003 SP2.

Everything is fine until they get to the part where they are synching Contacts. For some reason, Contacts for these users are being generated during ActiveSynch and once they reach over 50k, the server crawls to a halt. If I disable ActiveSynch for those users, server is fine.

I haven't seen this issue with my Blackberry or iPhone users.

HTC Incredible :: Exchange 2003 Activesync Support

Nov 4, 2010

I know a lot of people have been having tons of issues involving the htc mail connecting to exchange activesync to get their email, contacts and calendar. It is hit or miss whether it worked for lots of folks.I couldn't get it working for the life of me, so took the easy way out and un-checked "use ssl 128 bit" on the exchange server, and it started working... However, this creates a huge security issue, leaving your exchange outlook web access unencrypted. I accepted this fact for a couple weeks, as I needed the email support really bad for a project I was working on. Now that I'm done with that project, I returned to this issue, definitely wanting to plug the security hole I so reluctantly opened up. Telling myself i will NOT drop a $20 for touchdown exchange client, after being told that my incredible has "exchange support".After about 6 hours of scrubbing through microsoft kb's I discovered the answer.Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access errors occur when SSL or forms-based authentication is required for Exchange Server 2003 (ms kb 817379)Use Resolution method #2. Which creates a virtual directory (with no ssl access) that is only accessible by the same server computer. You still set up the inc email client the same, including checkmarking the "this server requires a ssl connection" What happens is your inc can now authenticate by SSL to the exchange web access, and it then redirects access locally on the server to the newly created virtual directory.

in a nutshell, it just ends up working!Caveat, you either need to be the exchange server admin to do the tasks in the method #2, or know the exchange server admin at your company (and bring him nice techie toys) I've only tested this on our exchange 2003 standard server. I have no idea what to do with a 2007 server I understand the exchange 2010 server also has no official support either, but is currently being worked on.I just thought i'd throw this out there for those who still may be having this issue. If it helps even one other company besides ours, it was worth the effort!

Android :: 2.1 Devices Won't Sync With Exchange 2003 SP2

Aug 2, 2010

We have a client running Exchange 2003 SP2, and a few users would like to sync their Android phones - a Motorola Droid and an LG Ally, both running Android 2.1. Both phones give us the following error when configure a sync account:

This Exchange ActiveSync server requires security features your phone does not support.

I've made sure that Exchange ActiveSync is working, I've tried allowing unsupported devices in Exchange System Manager, adding the users to the device security exclusion list, but I'm not coming up with anything that will allow the Android devices to sync.

HTC Eris :: KaosFroyo 35.1 And Exchange 2003 Calendar Sync

Sep 21, 2010

I have flashed to KaosFroyo 2.2 v35.1. Everything is fine and the best thing of all is the amazing Power Control widget with all the customization of the widget. But!: I have Exchange 2003 Outlook recurring events created in Outlook. If I use the phone's calendar to delete today's event only from a weekly-recurring event ("Delete this event only"), it doesn't sync with Outlook. In other words, after a sync and check Outlook, I still see the event I deleted using the phone calendar. The other way around, it works fine (if I delete an event in Outlook, it updates on my phone to where I don't see it). Any tips/ideas?

HTC Desire :: Exchange For Mail - Any Standard Application

Apr 19, 2010

I have a problem getting the mail application for Exchange to work. I read through several threads and got to install Touchdown. Strange thing is that this app works fine and the mails from the Exchange server are sent perfectly to the HTC Desire. What is even more strange is that a colleague of mine has exactly the same Desire and is on the same Exchange server as I am and for him, the Mail application for Exchange works perfectly. I really want to use the standard mail application. I saw there is an option in Touchdown 'Fetch and trust certificate' which is not available in Mail for Exchange. I already tried to logon to the webmail via a browser but this did not seem to help.

HTC Desire :: Exchange Push Mail When Roaming

Jul 19, 2010

I am currently roaming outside my home network in the UK and cannot get Exchange Server to automatically synch. I have read countless posts on this forum and elsewhere trying to self-help before posting, but despite this one appearing to be the same issue, I have been unable to fix it.

In essence when opening Menu > Settings > Accounts & Synch > Manage Accounts / Exchange Active Sync > Account Settings I see that the option for "Sync when roaming" is not only unticked but also greyed out so I cannot enable it.

How can I fix this, please?

Note that Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Data roaming is ticked and so is ... > Enable always-on mobile data.

I am currently on an Edge network and manual Exchange Synch works just fine but having automatic sync is more important right now that worrying about the roaming charge.

HTC Desire :: Outlook 2003 Calendar Reminders

Every time I sync my new HTC Desire to my Outlook 2003 using HTCSync V 3.0.5422, I come up with over 300 reminders on the PC which date back to almost a year ago. I've tried dismissing them in Outlook - they go away - until next time I sync.

I tried downloading the latest version of HTCSync, but that caused the whole sync process to hang - had to uninstall it and load the version that came on the phone.

Android :: Exchange Activesync Problem Desire HD - Cannot Send From Android Native Mail App

Nov 13, 2010

I have a brand new Desire HD. Up until 2 days ago, everything was working perfectly with my Outlook Exchange Account on the native Android Mail application. Running Android 2.2

Since then, there is something wrong with our Outlook certificate, and when I launch Outlook on my PC, I get a message that the name on the certificate is not valid. Ok, fine. So on the PC, I press "OK" and I am off and running.

On the Desire, I still get email, but if I try to SEND and email, it neither reaches the recipient, nor does the email end up in the "Sent" mail folder. When I go to "Accounts and Sync" and look at the Exchange account, I also see that i have a sync protocol error on Contacts syncing.

Now, I have installed Touchdown, and I CAN send email from here. Also, I have a friend who has an older Android phone that does not seem to be affected in a similar fashion connecting to the same exchange server.

Problem: The Touchdown app is kind of a pain from a user interface standpoint when you try to edit a contact. and it costs $20. And, I really prefer the native Mail widgets and stuff.

I am stuck using Touchdown at the moment so that I can send and receive emails, but I am hoping to find a workaround. Our IT people are working on the certificate problem, so maybe that will help. HOWEVER, I cannot afford to be without email every time there is a certificate problem.

Android :: Custom Contacts Field With A Set List Of Values And Contacts Lookup Performance

May 28, 2010

I'm pretty sure it's not viable to do what I'd like to based on some initial research, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the community of experts here in case someone knows a way.

I'd like to create a custom field for contacts that the user is able to edit from the main Contacts app; however, the user should only be allowed to select from a list of four specific values. A short list of string values would be ideal, but an int with a min/max range would suffice.

I'm interested in knowing if it's possible either way, but also wondering if it make sense to go this route performance wise. More specifically, would it be better to look up a contact (based on a phone number) each time a call or SMS message is received or better to store my own set of data (consisting of name, numbers, and the custom field) and just syncing contact info in a thread every so often? Or syncing contacts the first time the app is run and then registering for changes using ContentObserver?

HTC Desire :: Address Book Only Gives One Line Of Address

May 30, 2010

Just getting used to my HTC Desire, after reading your forum I was comforted regarding battery life and it seems much better now than the first few days.
I see another post on this but no answer, the address book only gives one line of the address is then any way round this? Even my first pda a Psion 3 had the option of which fields to display etc. there seems very little option to format what is seen, not that I am unhappy about the rest but to have to edit to see all the address is barmy.
Another thing way back then that still is not found is search all fields of the contacts, i.e. to find a number of someone that rang on another phone.

Jun 22, 2010

Assuming I have a contact saved in my addressbook, called "TomTasche" with the mail-address "stackoverflow@gmail.com". How can I retrieve the contact's name, if I only know the mail-address?

I already asked a similar questions about retrieving contact's nickname here, but if I change that code to query the mail, like that:

CODE:...........

It forces close and logcat tells me that there's a syntax error near @gmail.

CODE:..................

Interesting is that it seems to query fine. Logcat prints out the contact's name:

CODE:.............

How am I able to retrieve the name?

Syntax Error is caused by missing quotes, but cursor returns null anyway.
