I just got my Desire a few days ago, and so far i am very pleased with it (coming from a Nokia N95 8GB). I do find the contact handling somewhat counter intuitive however. For example , i have some contacts from facebook for which i have no other contacts created, but i need to add additional information (in particular phone numbers). I do not seem to be able to add information to a facebook contact. Do i really need to manually create another contact, then manually give it the same name and then link it to the facebook profile in order to have a place to add the phone number?
I'm having Facebook for Android on my phone which automatically syncs the FB profile pictures of the people in my contact list to my phone. I'd like to use those pictures within my app where I access Contacts Contract. Phone Lookup. Do I really need the Facebook SDK to do that? I guess not, but I cannot find any evidence of the pictures being saved somewhere around Contacts Contract.
Alright, a couple very minor issues I'm having that I can't get figured out. One, how do you edit someone's contact information who is synced with Facebook? It says that I cannot do this (seems odd that the phone would be set up this way) to a facebook synced contact. The second is, how do I manually sync my contacts to add new FB friends to my Droid contact list? Third (I know I said I had two), how do you create a separate Family/Frienda/Coworkers list within the contacts program?
This is one of the first problems I encountered when I used HTC Sense to Sync my contacts with facebook. This is what it was like before I synced with facebook.
E.g. Georgia Bowman Call mobile. 07xxxxxxxxx Send message. 07xxxxxxxxx After Syncing, there DP is up, aswell as email address etc. It also changed the number to 44xxxxxxxxxx
I've found a solution. Go to a contact with the 44xxxxxxxxxx number. Ensure the contact is still linked to facebook Menu > Edit This brings up the Edit screen Scroll down, Then add. On the Drop down, select Phone > Work Now, providing you only had one number for that person, you should have two fields. One called Mobile with their number this format 07xxxxxxxxx. (If its in the +44xxxxxxxxx format, then change it to the 07xxxxxxxxx format) Press on the top field (the original one), then copy all. Select the field called work, then press on the field, hold, and paste. Now press Menu > Save. Now press and HOLD the field called Call work, and set this as your primary number. Once primary number is on the field called call work, you can now go to Menu > Edit. Now delete the Field labeled Mobile Go to the field called work, then change the label to Mobile. Menu > Save.
This will now stay as your contacts primary number. E.g. Georgia Bowman Call mobile. 07xxxxxxxxx Send message. 07xxxxxxxxx Instead of having 44xxxxxxxxx
My 'accounts & sync' settings have always had 'facebook' turned off for syncing, and I have never turned it on. Yet this morning i was playing around with the bit in 'people' to try and see if the facebook bit in there worked and i would be able to link a contact in there with their facebook account. It asked me to log into facebook (after which incidentally it could not then find the contact in facebook lol). After that i went to the calendar and it now shows ALL 2500 facebook contacts birthdays!!
Please tell me there is a way to undo this. at no point did i ever select auto facebook syncing, or choose to import facebook calendar. Obviously now the calendar is pretty unusable as there are multiple bithdays on every day.
I've had my (generic) Desire for a few weeks now, and have a really nagging/annoying problem in that, where i've added contacts (on the phone memory) and then synced with facebook, it's pulling in their mobile phone number from facebook, but is defaulting to 447584... and will not let me call the contact without first editing the number to read 07584...
The only way around this so far as i can tell, is to manually add the number again as a 'Home' number but with a 0 in place of 44, as re-adding as a mobile just defaults back to the 447584... and then assigning the 'Home' number as the primary contact number. Does anyone have any ideas whether this is a bug or something i've done myself, and also whether there is a way i can update my whole phonebook to change the 44's for 0's rather than manually going through and changing them?
My facebook has stopped working - the apps won't update with new information, and trying to access the main site through the browser brings up the 'bad ip - your ip address is linked to abusive behaviour blah blah ' facebook form. I've filled this in and am waiting to hear back, but was wondering if this could be due to the settings on my phone? it was working fine for the last month, so no idea what could have changed...
I am not sure if this came up in one of the topics, but I may have missed it.
For the past week, I noticed some of my contact priority number was defaulting to the number I least call. This morning, while trying to figure how to make priority changes, I noticed it was due to linking it to facebook.
I linked my wife's info with her facebook and the priority number (mobile) pushed it to her home number information she has on her facebook account. So instead of me just going to click on my wife's name or say a command to call wife, I have to scroll to find the number I want to call.
I there a fix for this to let us set the priorities?
First off, I have to say this phone is amazing and by far the best handset I've ever had.ight, my problem. I use Outlook contacts at work and had a Windows mobile before this one. The contacts appeared to sync into Desire no problem with HTC Sync and I was using phone with no issues. I then decided to see if I could have mail sent to phone like a Blackberry. I went to 'accounts & sync' and set up my work domain etc. The email side of it works fine. since then I noticed that my contacts in 'People' are normal. When I go to send a text, everything from a contact is listed twice. I use Handcent, but it happens in HTC message app as well. Each contact has 'linked' in top right corner and if i tap it the two contacts for the same person are 'Phone' and 'Exchange'. Any ideas how I can remove one of these? Is HTC Sync, syncing with Outlook and the Desire sync settings are syncing with the Exchange? Any help on how best to set this up is appreciated. I do want to have Outlook contacts as they are full of notes about customers.
I've just taken delivery of my brand new HTC Desire and I'm having a little difficulty importing my contacts from my old SE W995. I've put the SIM card in the new handset and it seems to have recognized some of the numbers but as far as I can see its only showing one number per contact whereas my W995 let me save a few different numbers for each contact (work, home, mobile etc) - is there any way to get the HTC to recognize this without keying them all in again?
Some contacts have different phone numbers. And when I send group SMS, the message is sent to the first number of the contact. So is there a software that can reorganize the position of the phone numbers? So that the mobile numbers are the first in the list.
I just purchased my new HTC desire and i have a problem : 1) Adding a new contact number to either phone or Google account. Name/surname are saved but the phone number doesn't get saved; so when editing the contact, no phone number appears. Then, when gonig under Phone and typing the letters of the name just added, i can find it in the drop list of "guessed names" with the number right under the name. I want to be able to view my contact and see the phone number from the application People; and that's impossible now because of this problem.
On facebook some people have entered their number as eg. "61408707080" instead of adding the plus "+........." or simply "0.........". this then screws me when eve ri try to call them or message them, is there and easy fix for this or simply just don't link their facebook with contact?
When I create a contact on the Hero it is not uploaded to Outlook when I sync. Viewing the contact on the Hero it says contact type is Google while all Outlook contacts have a type of Phone. How do I create a contact of type Phone using the Hero? I have seen no option to choose this.
I've seen a few threads on here about this but none with an answer to my question.I want to keep facebook on friend stream but i want to remove the contact sync option.Numerous people have said to remove the facebook for htc sense option in settings->accounts and sync.then to re-add the account and quickly untick the "sync contacts"box. I've done all this except for the last bit as there is not a check box.I can only imagine that the app has been updated to not include a check box.
After having linked all my contacts with their facebook profiles. their profile pics came up on their contact info. HOWEVER now they do not update. for e.g when they update their profile pic on facebook. my desire wont update it to their contact info on my desire. i have syncing automatically and manually through settings...but no luck. what am i doing wrong?
Ok so I have my first Smartphone, a Samsung Fascinate, and I simply love it. One thing that I REALLY like is the sync of facebook and twitter to my contacts. I like the fact that it syncs their photos and status and such, especially since I'm a facebook/twitter dork. My only problem is that the synced photos both in the contacts page and my "buddies now" widget are EXTREMELY low quality. Is there any way to get the higher quality photos to show up in those programs? Its not a deal breaker, although it does look a little nasty when the rest of the phone is so sharp.
I would like to store some app-specific data in the contacts db. Is it safe to stuff random things into the Contacts.Settings table? Will it affect the GUI? Does anybody have an example of doing that? It's not really clear to me if there's a proper mechanism for this, or if the settings table is reserved for the systems own use.
BTW my first attempt was to use an app specific database, but then users would uninstall the app, reinstall it later and wonder why it didn't work. My second attempt was to stuff the data into the JPEG headers but the sync process deletes them, presumably for security reasons. So if there's no way to store my things in the contacts db directly, I think I'm out of luck - I'll have to look at steganographically encoding the data into the raw pixels themselves!
How to at least hide the pictures in my contacts list, some of which are synced from facebook. I find it a little creepy that pictures are there, and other people do too!! Hahah, I want to know how to do it, even if it involves getting an app!
I know this might have been addressed but i just did a search and couldn't get a clear answer. What I want is the have my current contacts in my phone synced with facebook photos. But I do not want the 1,000 friends on facebook to be under contacts. Is there a way to do this?
