General :: Shell Has Been Granted SuperUser Permissions

Sep 23, 2012

I recently awoke my Galaxy Nexus (takju) from the lockscreen; inadvertently pressing the key combo [vol-up + vol-down + power] initiating a 'Bug Report' (dumpstate) command

Upon entering the Homescreen I was seeing the infamous 'shell has been granted Superuser permissions' toast ~2 seconds apart which lasted ~2 minutes, subsequently vibrating and opening a new message in Gmail containing 2 files - bugreport-date-time.txt and Screenshot_date-time.png (Sent from BugMailer).

This 'toast' has been reported in various device forums/threads and I thought this may shed some light; whether it was a dumpstate command initiated by an inadvertent key combo (as in my case) or a system/app crash bugreport.

If you have experienced this 'toast', check your internal storage (sdcard) for the - /sdcard/bugreports/bugreport.txt and /sdcard/Pictures(in JB)/Screenshot/Screenshot.png - the timestamp of the dump should be in the filenames.

Motorola Droid :: Superuser Permissions App Versus Superuser App?

Sep 22, 2010

I have the app "Superuser Permissions" BUT I don't see it in the Market as even existing. Also, I have been more seeing people mentioning "Superuser" app recently - like OMJ. Well, when you search "Superuser Permissions" in the Market they show the app "Superuser" and not "Superuser Permissions".. what's up with that? So, I tried to download "Superuser", but I get a Failed Installation app.

Android : Default Permissions Granted For Apps On Droid?

Aug 6, 2010

I have noticed in an application I wrote, in-spite of me not specifying any permission in the manifest file, the application throws up permissions granted, such as

android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE

What is all that about? I was not even aware my application needs to write into external store, and I am pretty sure it doesn't need to. So why are these permission being granted when I never requested for them?

Android :: Market Fail To List All Permissions Granted To Applications

Oct 7, 2010

When installing applications from android market some permissions are not listed to the user, but are granted to the application upon installation, including the notorious "Phone calls" permission. When installing locally through "Package installer" the full set of permissions is listed. That behavior may be observed with many applications one of which is 'net.jimblackler.newswidget' (no offense Jim - I hope it's true there's no bad publicity).

This bug was reported as issue #9365 [0] back in Jun 27, 2010 but has gone so far unnoticed, perhaps because android market is not part of AOSP, which is why I post here. I consider this a serious problem as it is misleading for users and reflects badly on application developers and the whole android echo system. Hopefully this will get the needed attention and treatment, especially after all the recent noise around applications security and privacy breaches.

HTC EVO 4G :: Reinstall Superuser Permissions

Jul 11, 2010

I had my Evo rooted with Unrevoked and then it stopped working when I did the OTA update (I believe this happened for everybody). So then I uninstalled Unrevoked and I saw that Superuser Permissions was still there in the apps list, so I uninstalled that too. But now I think I want Superuser Permissions back, but it didn't get installed when I tried to install Unrevoked again. How can I get it back? Also, am I correct that it was bundled along with Unrevoked when I installed it the first time, or is it park of the Android OS?

HTC Eris :: Superuser Permissions App Freezing

Aug 7, 2010

I'm having trouble with my superuser app and wireless tethering. I just flashed a new rom (xtrSENSE) and successfully set up tethering on my phone. However, I think I screwed something up after that. I allowed permission for access, and went back in to the superuser app later, clicked on the corresponding line and it disappeared. When I went back in to tether my phone today, it transferred to the SU app and promptly froze, later force closing. Every attempt since has had the same result.

I have tried changing several settings and even flashed a new rom (aloysius) to try to fix it. I have no idea what I did, but it freezes then force closes every time I try to get into the SU app. The only thing i can imagine I did is click on the permission but I don't know how that can screw things up. Anyone know what I did or have suggestions to fix? I'm really missing tethering. Thanks!

Went back to an old nandroid backup and restarted my phone... all better now. No idea what the problem was, but it clearly was user error. Sorry to clutter up the boards.

Aug 6, 2010

On G5 and Modaco RC3 every time my phone starts up, it'll ask if Titanium Backup can have superuser. If I look at the permissions list, I can see the apps I've allowed. But, every time I run them, it prompts. This happens when any app wants su.I've tried changing the option in Superuser to Toast as someone suggested on another forum but that has not fixed it.

superuser permissions not working. i've already wiped and reflashed fresh 2.1.1. when i try to open superuser permissions all i see is a black screen. also when i use htc sense, it seems to suck up battery really fast but it runs smooth. but when i switch to the nexus launcher it takes a while to load up all the icons on the main screen. i've tried to search but it seems like the search is not accurate in hunting down the threads for me because when i try to create this thread, i see more similar threads than just simply searching for it through the top right search box.

Motorola Droid :: Superuser Permissions Blocked For Rooted Applications

Mar 26, 2010

I was messing around with my phone being bored and went into the superuser permissions app. I was looking at all the entries that were in there and I know that it's just a list of permissions you've allowed on your phone. Anyway I wanted to see what would happen if I clicked on one of them. Well it cleared it from the list and I just clicked on all of them so when I'm in the SU app there is nothing there. Now when I try and get into one of my apps that require permission it tells me it requires root and doesn't have permission. So it looks like I blocked all permissions for my rooted apps. The question is how do I get it back? I'm sure I can just reflash a nandroid backup I have but I was wondering if there is any other way?

General :: App Update Permissions - Any Way To Restrict Permissions?

The permissions say that you must agree to allow them to delete files from your storage including your SD card; must agree to allow them to extract any information from your phone, etc. In other words they can do any thing they want with your phone and the data in it.

Is there any way to not grant these permissions and still get updates?

I just bought my first Android - Samsung Galaxy Note. The only other mobile I have ever owned was a blackberry curve and I never installed a single app on it.

My Question: What reason does Google Play Store 3.5.16 have to require the following permissions?Your Messages - Receive SMS Your accounts - Act as account authenticator, manage the accounts list, use the authentication credentials of an account Phone Calls - Read phone status and ID

The other permissions that it requests I can somewhat understand, but why on earth does it need access to my SMS? My accounts and my phone calls?

Android :: Cannot Install App If Permission Is Granted

May 8, 2009

I am sure that the permission is granted as I declare this in my manifest. Hence the app wouldn't be installed if the user didn't grant the permission.

(a) My guess is that it's a rooted phone where the app is started from an SD card (or similar) whereby the original user id has changed after the install. (b) This could be a Cupcake "feature". Acquiring wake locks has gone down a similar path as turning GPS on?

I am trying to track down (a) with my users, but this takes some time. I meanwhile now that at least one user uses a JF image. Anybody else has experience with that issue? if (b) might be valid? The app works on my 1.5 emulator and on > 400 phones with Cupcake, at least it is installed on them and users don't submit bug reports. So I guess (b) is not the case, but who knows?

Motorola defy
Nexus 10
Nexus 5

All can't install superuser, but superSU all work perfectly. The problem is everytime I tried installing superuser it says binaries not updated. I reinstall it again and again even by flashing its zip it's still the same thing. Is that because my custom recovery is TWRP not CWM? The reason I'd like to switch to superuser from SuperSU is that I think root program really needs to be open source.

General :: Nexus 5 - Rooting And Superuser

Apr 15, 2014

I've just rooted my device (Nexus 5) with Chainfire auto setup and I've downloaded Superuser by Clockworkmod. When I opened it up, it showed a message saying that I needed to update the SU binary, I went back to the Play Store, I read the description and I found a link, that allows me to install it from a recovery files. Once I downloaded it I opened the app again using the recovery files, Android crashed and rebooted itself, but during the boot it showed a dead android image (the one with the red triangle). I've turned off my device (Nexus 5) and then I've reboot it, now all works fine. I'm terribly scared, what the hell happened? It's my fault or Superuser just crashed?
