General :: What Android Phone Supports Infrastructure WiFi Connections

I really like my Droid X but it only supports Ad Hoc and this doesnt connect to a certain device I need it to. I want to make sure I get the right phone that does what I need it to.

Has anyone found a good wifi tethering app that supports infrastructure mode? I tried android pre-14 on google and barnacle but both were just adhoc mode. I know google pre-14 will work once we get to 2.2 os, or it least it does on the EVO, but not sure when that is happening for the Fascinate.

WPA2 + infrastructure = strong security and access for your Android devices and other devices that didn't support ad-hoc mode (WiFi, etc). Written by Andrew himself - the guy who developed most of the code for this to work on the EVO. Props Andrew! Free Android WiFi Tether For Root Users App Now Supports WPA2 And Full Hotspot (Infrastructure) Capabilities On EVO 4G

Have tried multiple versions of the wifi tether app, but I can't seem to find one that will broadcast in infrastructure mode with the new OTA update (yes I re-rooted my phone after, and confirmed root).
Anyone had any luck, and if so, what version/mods have you done?

I've recently upgraded my Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 all to Android 4.4 and as soon as I upgraded my Wi-Fi has been awful. The Wi-Fi is incredibly unstable, steaming media has major buffering / intermittency issues, messages sent over instant messaging apps are sometimes instant and sometimes take 30+ seconds to send.
Skype is the most telling of the issues as it randomly loses connection and my notifications literally never come through..Router Wi-Fi Settings: I've tried Channels, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11
I've also tried adding
Code:
gDataInactivityTimeout=200
to the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file as found:URL>...Wi-Fi is Always On, Wi-Fi Frequency is Auto or 2.4, Wi-Fi Optimization is Off.The wireless / wifi works fine on other tablets, laptops and wireless devices just my nexus devices on 4.4

I have some spots in office and home that WIFI signal is strong enough for me to locate it but not strong enough for actually having internet access, and so it causes me to not have an internet access at all since 3G is disabled for WIFI but WIFI is dead. The option on the Advanced for "Avoid Poor connection" seems to work only for REALLY BAD signal, and a little bit more than that it approves. Is there a way to edit it? re-arrange it so it will avoid "Fair" signals too? or set a minimum percentage of signal (lets say 50%) and less than that it forces 3G.

Are we able to establish both WiFi and 3G connections at the same time on Android 2.1? We are implementing a "make-before-break", so that WiFi can be switched to 3G before tearing the WiFi connection down. Please guide if you have come across this.

In addition, what if I walk away from home, wifi lost signal and switch to 3g? It should be safe to guess the connection is dropped. For my application, do I need to handle the reconnection or there is a auto fall back solution.

I have a Star A3 running 2.3.4
I am running Ttorrent Pro on the phone, and the speeds are less than impressive (everyone else says the same thing) I am on a very fast connection, using speed guide I literally max out the speedtest servers in my local area (20Mb up/down which is the max they let you go to, I would get 100/100 if my speedtest server would allow it) and I have a port forwarded correctly.
but anyways, what I have noticed is, when wake the phone, and open the torrent application the speeds are down to around 3Kbps if I leave it open the speeds immediately start ramping up to 200-300Kbps if I keep it awake.
So this makes me think, when the phone is sleeping a lot of the connections are being closed, or when the phone is asleep it won't try and open new connections to new peers (and the current peer list may go stale while its asleep)
this is with all torrents, now the exact same torrent on another PC with a DSL connection (3Mb down 300Kb up) is downloading faster than the phone.
Are there any developers out there than can explain what processes are going to sleep that may be useful to keep awake for downloading, and also what are the tcp limits on the phone, ie. max open connections, max half open etc?

This just popped up my on my twitter. Y5 Battery Saver Keeps Wi-Fi On Only Near Trusted Spot. When you connect to wifi, it'll remember the rough location (without GPS). Periodically it'll tap back into that location and if you are near it it'll flip on WiFi so you can connect. If you aren't near an area you've connected too before, it'll keep wifi off.

So I'm running the CM 6.0.2 rom and i had Kings kernal #1 installed and I was getting great quadrant scores and very stable. Then I tried to use wifi tethering today and....didn't work
I use wifi tethering alot for my ipad(don't flame to much on that) but the wifi tethering kept me from having to buy a 3g ipad and kept me away from AT&T.
So my question is what is the best kernal to use that supports wifi tethering? Without breaking GPS or BT audio?

I'm looking for a dual sim phone with 3g 850 900 2100. I'm trying to get rid of carrying two phones.
Not fussed about brand per say.
Can't post link but there is a eBay seller tec-plus selling ezio b92w.
States that its a quad 3g capable, however I have emailed seller and the response was vague at best.
Any dual sim phone that meets this requirement?

I'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?

I only get a phone signal about a third of the times i start the emulator. I've read on these groups that you have to have an internet connection before starting the emulator. Since i'm connected to the internet 24/7 :) this is not the problem I've also read somewhere that you should try do disable all other network connections (which i've done) and the problem persists. I'm using Windows 7 and Android 2.1 + API's emulator. You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group. I wish to know if Android supports dynamic font resizing at all? Say, if I have a button with 100dip width and 15px font text in it. If this button gets a longer text at some time, how can I make font size smaller so that I can fit in all text. PS: It just cuts-off the text and doesn't change font dynamically now.

I have a Galaxy on O2 UK. It's via work, and on a business tariff that boasts unlimited data. After a couple of huge bills, it turns out that apparently 3g data is unlimited, but 2g data is charged at the usual eye-watering rates. Phone Bloke is checking with O2 whether they are serious. In the meatime, I'd like to disable 2g data connections.I can't find a way to do that.
