General :: Set Maximum Background Processes Not Using Developer Options Possible?

Jun 24, 2013

I know the android memory management is quite good, but is there an option for how many tasks are kept in the background before killed even if there is enough RAM?Is this possible by not using the setting in the developer options but some init.rc tweak?

Android :: Background Processes Not Being CPU-limited?

Apr 19, 2010

We were told that, as of Android 1.6, background processes were put in a Linux process scheduling class that limited how much CPU they would use. A few weeks ago, I ran a benchmark test that seemed to validate this claim.I have run more tests, and I am no longer confident in my earlier conclusion. I can get a background process to significantly impact the foreground process, more than would seem to be possible if the background process was, indeed, CPU-limited.

Android :: Game Doesn't Work Due To Thread Background Processes

Mar 8, 2010

I have written a very simple game with some simple animations, but I've noticed that when the phone checks email, or several other apps are running, the animations that update in my thread start behaving slowly or choppy. This is a problem as the game mechanic requires some careful timing of your screen touches based on the animations. So if it starts behaving erratically, the game doesn't really work well - and isn't much fun.
Is there a way to prevent this? Can my threads have a higher priority when they need to run?

Android :: Change The Background Color Of The Options Menu

May 31, 2010

I'm trying to change the default color for the options menu which is white. I want a black background for every item on the options menu. I've tried some shoots like android:itemBackground="#000000" on the item element within the menu element but it doesn't work. I don't know if this is doable or not. Any idea would be welcome! :)

General :: How To Manage Processes Properly

Feb 13, 2013

I have a GS2 skyrocket running CM10.1 and i've read that task managers are rather obsolete now. However I have noticed that when I let my phone run standard app process limit the battery life is around 30% worse than when I set the app limit to 4 processes in the developer settings. Now that I have CM10.1 and it doesn't have developer options, i'm wondering what I can do to limit my processes down to conserve battery?

General :: Application Which Forces All Processes To 0% Cpu Usage When Idle

May 26, 2013

My idle cpu usage seems a little high and sporadic and I'd like to force them all to 0% when idle but still be able to receive background data like for instance my play store seems to use a continuous idle usage and a few others. I can freeze them with the System Tuner but I'd prefer to Globally force all apps to 0% usage so I'm getting say 1% usage at idle on occasion every hour or few hours? When I use System Monitor, I see my cpu usage kind of jumping from 0 to up to 35-40% while idling and I don't want these apps using any resources at idle. I'm trying to extend battery life a lot more.

My battery life is really good already since I have a 3600mah battery but I could get even better if I can dial in the usage at idle.

Is there application that can do that?

On another note, I can't seem to figure out why my Google Calendar won't open a "New Event" it just sits on the Loading... Screen

General :: Acore Processes Running Amok On Jelly Bean?

Aug 6, 2012

I've been flashing ROMs built on the latest code for Jelly Bean (4.1.1). (The phone is the Galaxy Nexus LTE.)

The battery has been draining fast and upon checking with OS Monitor, I learned that a bunch of android.process.acore processes, sometimes alone and sometimes with another, have been registering high CPU loads continuously until they run the battery down. They are Contacts Storage, User Dictionary, and DRM Protected Content Storage. (DRM is probably not an acore service but it is making trouble just the same.)

I tried winnowing down the problem by deleting the contact store data and resyncing while de-activating third party syncers like HacSync. I even tried cleaning up the contacts via Google on the web. The contacts number only a few hundred. Again, the processes up claiming huge load after the initial sync period.

I scoured the web for reports but have only found mentions dating back to Gingerbread or ICS involving Facebook. Facebook sync doesn't work with JB and again, I have disabled HaxSync.

I also froze User Dictionary with Titanium Backup but that did nothing to keep the process from running, even after a reboot.

I want to use MX Player..I used to have the option of what to do with the video, but same thing happening with built in player..I have made sure all defaults were cleared, and I even tried uninstalling the Gallery that is linked with the camera.. No luck.

I'm running 4.3 on my tablet, and still have the option so obviously it is a 4.4 issue, and not a browser issue.

LG Eve :: Want To Kill Application / Processes

Sep 27, 2010

After searching, I was unable to find any post that deals with my particular problem, and I don't know if it's a problem or something I have to deal with. On my LG Eve (unlocked, not yet rooted), when I run Task killer, I notice that there are two items in the list that look like configuration files (window with a gear in front of it):
com.tni.Task killer:Captain Obviously, the first one is linked to Task killer and if I kill the configuration file, it kills the Task killer process. When I try to kill beware.com, though, it does nothing. The file remains in the list and is also visible in the Task killer widget. (Speaking of the widget, when I kill Task killer, the icon for the 2 configuration files usually remain, even if I auto kill everything.) Doing a little searching on the tubes, I found that beware.com are the developer for Quick Settings. I don't think I downloaded that app yet, but I might have and subsequently deleted it. Is it possible that the configuration file remains after I un install an app? If so, how do I remove that con fig file?

Android :: Are Processes Kept Alive When Nothing Is Being Done?

Feb 8, 2010

I have an app which declares a BroadcastReceiver, the receiver gets the broadcast, does what it needs to, then ends ensuring that everything is tidied up as needed. When I examine the system through the DDMS view in Eclipse the process for the application is still running after the receiver has completed. I've even boiled it down to a simple test case which gets a shared preferences instance from the context, checks a random setting, and then exits, and, when run on the 1.5 emulator (which is the minimum supported OS level) the process is still hanging around. The reason this is an issue is memory usage (which shows under DDMS as around 2MB).I've had queries about why the application still uses up memory even when it's not doing anything, so, my question is; Is this behaviour normal, or have I missed something that would make the process exit?

General :: Exchange / ActiveSync On Android Options?

Mar 19, 2012

I've been debating configuring my personal phone to access my employer's Exchange server; I would be checking it on occasion-- more of a convenience thing to know what's up before I head in for the day.

Using the default Android Mail client and choosing ActiveSync and doing the setup, I inevitably reach a screen with the following:

Quote:

Activate security policies?
Exchange security policies
Your IT administrator requires that you activate these security policies in order to sync with your Exchange Server.

Activating this administrator will allow the application Mail to perform the following operations:

! Erase all data
Perform a factory reset, which deletes all of your data without any confirmation.

! Set password rules
Restrict the types of passwords that you are allowed to use.

! Monitor screen-unlock attempts
Monitor failed attempts to log into your device.

! Lock the screen
Control when your device locks, requiring that you re-enter your password.

! Device function limitation
Restrict some function on device like Wifi, Bluetooth, Camera etc.

Needless to say, this is highly unappealing for my personal phone-- way too much power for the Mail application. So my questions-- what are my options?

-would a different Exchange connectivity application like Touchdown request those same permissions for access?
-would I be better off setting up ActiveSync on an alternate ROM and booting into that when I want to check work mail (not as frequently as some other users)?
-How far does that remote wipe control extend? Could they wipe the entire phone, including bootloader? Or is it just reference to internal storage? Could they wipe the external SD card?
-is there a way to revoke those permissions from the Mail application while retaining the ability to connect to the Exchange server?
