General :: Samsung Galaxy S4 - Copy Files From Hidden Data Folder

Apr 12, 2014

There is an app called PPDigital, it stores DRM free PDF files in a folder
Android/data/com.lht.privateerpress/files/

On my Asus Transformer TF101
I don't see that folder using "ES File Explorer" or "file manager" or when plugging into my PC via USB. I tried rooting my tablet and still haven't had any luck.

On my Samsung Galaxy S4
I see the folder but only 2 of the dozen PDFs that are in it, sadly they are the 2 I care the least about, both via "my files" and a USB connection to my PC.

General :: Samsung Galaxy S3 - Managing Hidden Files Thumbnails?

Jan 5, 2014

So I know the method of hiding a file or folder by placing a period in the beginning of the title then SETTINGS > *Uncheck* SHOW HIDDEN FILES

Okay, to make everything clear...... from the home page I go to my Apps......click FILES, then there are the following items: ALL FILES, IMAGES, VIDEOS, MUSIC, DOCUMENTS.

When I click IMAGES....I get to my CAMERA, a generic PHOTO album, and some downloads from FACEBOOK. There are also two hidden files called .THUMBNAIL and .THUMBNAILS2 (I may have named one of them I'm not sure).

What are these files for? They contain literally thousands of previous and current pictures I had stored in my phone including deleted pics. They are lower resolution than normal too. I want to delete the ".thumbnail" folders but I don't know what will happen. They're annoying me and include a lot of deleted stuff.

General :: How To Access Hidden Folder On Android (4.3) / Recover Lost Files On Nexus 7

Oct 7, 2013

I have lost a few pdfs which I have been reading for weeks (!) on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.3). Via the reading history of my pdf reader (Moon+ reader) I can see that at least one file is still present in the cache under the following folder address: /data/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/cache/filecache2/c042587322c4a438463efbd2cc533cbf/mypdf1.pdf

How can I access this folder? When accessing the device via the Android File Transfer sofware for Mac, I don't see this folder. I have access to Android/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/files, but this folder contains no files but only another folder (called "pinned_doc_files_not_for_edit") which is also empty.

The lost pdf is still there, I can open it in the reader via the reading history, but I would like to access the folder to see whether other lost files (which are not in the reading history) are also still present. To be clear, the file which I can open is also not detected when searching the device for pdfs.

General :: How To Copy / Modify Files In /etc Folder

Sep 12, 2013

I'm trying to use the library RootTools to make root operations on android system. I want to make a backup of some files including in the /etc folder with the next commands:

Code:
button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
File exists = new File("/etc/gps.conf");
if (exists.exists()) {
[Code] ....

It's supposed that with the RootTools.copyFile I can make that operation, but It doesn't make anything. I see that in cat /proc/mount doesn't appear etc folder. I'm tried too with the Apache transfer file copy, FileUtils.copyFile(source, destination) but it seems that it have problem with the mount system, who seems to be in RO. I try too with RootTools.remount("/etc", "RW") but fails too.

I want to know how I can edit, create, delete, modify files in /etc /data... etc.

I'm testing this on a Samsung Galaxy S3 with an stock rom 4.1.2.

Samsung Galaxy I7500 :: Can't Copy Files To Internal Memory

Aug 15, 2010

Im on Galaxo 1.6.3.3 and have been facing this strange problem since a couple of days. Whenever I mount my internal 8 GB memory and try to copy files into it, the internal memory card automatically un-mounts by itself after a couple of seconds interrupting the file transfer.

This happens almost all the time.

I don't have any such issues with the external SD card.

Should reformatting the internal memory help?
Also, If I reformat the internal memory...I dont think the OS should be affected. I suppose the internal memory is just like a movable drive...with no OS files on it.

Android :: App Copy Protection And Data Files

Feb 20, 2010

In my app, I access my sqlite database at the following hard-coded location in my code: /data/data/ com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db

If I turn ON copy protection in the Market Place, will my app still have access to this location?

Or will I have to change it to something like: /data-private/data/ com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db

(or something like this)

Since I have a Dev phone only, I have no way of testing to see if my app still functions normally after turning on copy protection.

General :: Internal Memory Consumption - Hidden Files

Feb 21, 2012

I have only 150mb of internal memory on my phone. These are some items that consume critical amounts of internal memory space. When I download an app, it seems I am downloading an install package. The installed app itself takes up additional space. I believe the install package persists on the internal memory, invisible to the average retail user, and takes up internal space even after the app is moved to the card.

Ex: an anonymous app
android market listed size- 3.51mb (this must be the download size of the installer)
download and install on internal memory, size listed- 5.73mb
move to SD card, size listed- 2mb
move back to internal memory, size listed- 5.73mb

Further thoughts:

1. The install package seems to remain on the internal memory even though the app moves to the card.

2. Beyond the above example, I went through each and every item listed in my settings - applications - storage use - All.

I found 105 total items on internal memory and SD card all together. By adding up the listed "Total" size of each (yes, I went through each and every one), I arrived at approximately 109mb. The phone lists internal memory use at 135mb. I would expect the internal memory use to be LESS than 109mb because some of the apps are on the card. My assumption is that much of this extra internal storage is taken up by all of the installers sitting invisible on the internal memory.

3. Based on observing the change in the Internal Memory usage when I delete app "Data", I believe the app data is being written to the internal memory even if the app is on the SD card.

Why isn't the install package deleted after the app is successfully installed? Is there an app for that?If I uninstall the app while it sits on internal memory, does it also delete the install package?If I uninstall the app without first moving it back to the internal memory, does it delete the uninstall package? How can I reclaim this internal memory space for actual use??

Its very hard to do apparently and I not adept enough to mess with it. There's also other ways to enable custom animations by flashing special zip files created by smokin1337 and clarified by ReelFiles and using something like rom toolbox to add custom ones to your system/media folder. I was actually looking to see if could got in your system/media and audio folders and post the original .qmg bootanimation and samsungloop files. I have a verizon butI flashes my galaxy s3 over to metro pcs with everything working just fine so i would like to change my animation with the stock R530 variant. Samsung Galaxy S :: Want To Copy Everything To Sim

Sep 21, 2010

My goal is to be able to copy everything in contacts (Phone contacts, Google accounts, Yahoo accounts, all contact photos, e-mails, home addresses, notes etc. everything...) to my SD card or SIM card. My first question is why does the SGS have a 'copy contacts to/from SIM' feature? Is this for when you are taking your SIM from the SGS and putting it into another phone (or vice versa)?You lose so much of your info (everything but name/number/e-mail) when you copy your contacts to your SIM. Wouldn't it be better to copy everything to your SD card and put your SD into your other phone, then copy the data to your other phone's contact list?
