I have vanilla linux kernel version 2.6.27. I want to apply android specific patches and convert it to android linux kernel 2.6.27. Where can a user find the patches to convert a normal vanilla kernel into android kernel?
1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool. 2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone 3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).
I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)
So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.
1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.
2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?
I currently have bekit 1ghz kernet installed, but I was interested in trying out some other kernels. Can I just install them via Rom Manager over the first kernel? Or is there some kind of uninstall process I should use first?
i can edit an existing rom for the Samsung Infuse 4g such as the stock rom and replace stock apps. I want to just edit some of the system/apps like the stock launcher, stock messaging app, etc and replace them with different ones that i already have downloaded. I don't want to edit any of the really deep/internal stuff just the stock applications that are loaded on the phone.
if I want to edit tha name of any apk .( sure I dont mean the file name ) ,, I mean .. the name that show up when you install it for example : .. there is a CAM Mod .. and I dont want to flash it from recovery ( cuz if I do that ,, it will be the only app for camera ) .. and I dont want that .. but when you install it as APK .. you will get the 2 apps and you are free which one you want to use.
BUT .. if the app is named ( Camera ) .. you cant install it .. cuz there is already an app with that name ..
Just bought a GS2SR and installed a keyboard app to replace the android keyboard however i LOATHE the keypress sound (sounds like an old typewriter). I really like the galaxy s2 keyboard sounds so here's what i've done to solve the issue so far..
-downloaded stock GS2 rom and extracted the .ogg sound files for the keyboard click -converted .ogg files to .wav(same format as files i am replacing inside the .apk) and renamed them to the EXACT name of the .wav files i am replacing inside the .apk -download the keyboard .apk and open in winRAR (didn't change file extention) -inside the .apk i located directory containing the .wav files and deleted them -from the desktop i dragged the new .wav files into winRAR and dropped them in the original directory -close winRAR -resign .apk -plug phone in and view on PC as mass storage mode. -click and drag newly edited and signed .apk into the downloads folder on phone -unplug phone -install .apk on phone
So the installation went fine. I go into messaging and the keyboard shows up and works perfectly. only problem is i have no keyboard sounds! why aren't my new .wav files playing when i press a key?
I was searching for a tool to edit an apk file and i found Apk Tool on xda but i think it's not, that much easy to work with this program. (for a n00b, like me.. ). I managed to open and edit te file with winRAR, but is this program also capable of proper compiling the app again, ready to use?
I tried it and it worked well i think, but is this possible with any app or other kinds of changes?
i have big problem when i opening *.XML file in notepad, notepad++ or Wordpad ;( i have this problem with android xml. i used different XML on different roms and problem is the same ;( and i changed fonts and it dont work. in notepad++ in wordpad
Im just trying to tweak something. Every text editor I've used, including so-called "xml editors", have failed to properly display the contents of any of the android xml files. What will be used to view and edit Android xml?
We know that the ROM is installed to the /system partition. Likewise the kernel ie boot.img is installed to the /boot partition of the device. I tried hard but could not find any reference to such a /boot partition(directory) in the root of the device. I would like know whether it is hidden or disguised as something else. The script that flashes the custom kernels has the following line
Code: package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p9"); (What is the block code for system and other partitions?)
Is mmcblk0p9 the /boot partition? Moreover /dev/block has no reference to boot or mmcblk0p9. So where exactly is the kernel being extracted? The boot.img comes packaged as zImage + ramdisk, In other words where are zImage and ramdisk extracted to, in the root file system and in what form? Is the ramdisk responsible for the creation of the root files system(/dev, /proc, /data. /system, /sys, /sbin etc)?
Well I am working on beagleboard-xm project, where I am supposed to upgrade the current Android version to ICS. The thing is, I have to keep the current kernel , because it is customized for some applications that run on that board. It is not me that compiled that kernel...
Is it even possible to keep the "old" kernel and upgrade to ICS? Can it be done in any way? Or a new kernel with new patches has to be installed...?
I have a small query why cant i use the stock kernel with Cynanogenmod ?What is the difference between the two and how can I make a stock kernel compatible with Cynanogen mod when building one from source
