General :: Hide Application Permanently From Recent Apps History In ICS?

Jun 8, 2012

New feature of ICS, "Recent Apps with thumbnails" is a privacy concern for me. As it shows my personal text messages in the thumbnail to people whom i handover my device. I have already locked message application but still ICS is able to capture a screenshot of it and displays it in Recent App history. Is there a way to bypass an application from Recent apps history?

I have a galaxy nexus and I am wondering if there is a way to permanently hide the Softkeys whilst retaining the status bar (yes I know about expanded desktop). I use LMT's PIE feature to navigate and I find it much more useful. I personally like PIE better so I have more screen space.

HTC Incredible :: How To Delete Recent Email History From Yahoo Account?

Jul 16, 2010

Does anyone know how to clear historical contacts from the Email application. I'm using yahoo, I don't have Gmail set up on this phone because yahoo is my primary email. I've sent emails to 3 wrong emails. For example JoeSmith@aol.com, JSmith@aol.com, JoeS@aol.com but really his email is JoeSmith@yahoo.com. Now everytime I go to send this person an email, all 4 emails come up, the 3 in history, and the 1 in his contact information. When I type in J in the email recipient, all 4 come up, 3 say "history" next to the line of the email. I tried to add those emails into the contact, and then delete the emails, but that doesn't work.

I've went to yahoo to see if those contacts are showing up in history and they are not, so I know the historical email history is on the phone only. I haven't found a way to remove these items in history, but it's starting to cause problems because if I don't pay attention, I am choosing one of the wrong emails. Same thing is happening when I hit reply to ALL, 1 time about 2 months ago, and now i have about 40 emails in history and I don't even know who these people are, they are not in my contacts, and the phone is holding them hostage because I sent an email once. Does anyone know of a sure way to remove these historical emails?

If you don't know what I mean, give it a try, send an email to JOE@yahoo.com, and when you get it kicked back, the next time you try to send an email and hit "J", that JOE@yahoo.com will show up every single time, without fail. I've checked all historical settings on the phone, and even removed and re-added the yahoo account, but it does no good, the historical emails still stay in history. It's getting very annoying to have 45+ emails that you dont even know show up everytime you try to email someone something. Someone must have an answer for this, I can't be the only one that has sent the wrong email to someone.

General :: Upside - Down Recent Apps?

Aug 5, 2013

One thing bugs me though. I've had to set ro.fs.fakerotation to 180 so that my tablet auto-rotates correctly, but in "recent apps" all of the thumbnails are upside-down.

I have a feeling it may be a matter of modifying systemui.apk but I'm not sure.

Android : Application Disappears From "recent Apps" List / How To Get Back?

Dec 15, 2009

I am writing an app that wants to be able to handle URLs. I also want to be able to launch it stand-alone with no arguments, so I've specified two intent filters: I have also specified android:launchMode="singleTask". Now, if I explicitly launch my application from the application list, its name and icon can be found in the "recent apps" list that pops up when I hold the home key. If I then use the email application to open a URL in my application, my application disappears from the "recent apps" list. Why does this happen, and what can I do about it? I notice that the Browser application doesn't behave like this, and it has similar intent filters and the same launchMode..

General :: Recent Apps Intent / Widget Or App

Jan 31, 2011

What launcher intent should be called, to bring up the "Recent Apps" list in the default home launcher? I am using a Pandigital Novel, and the lack of hardware keys make it very awkward to navigate the system. The softkeys in the OP status bar allow me to get to the home screen, and if I glitch it by making it timeout through countless presses occasionally brings up the "Recent Apps" screen which is great, but not reliable like that. (If they had the source code released, I could probably just fix the status bar keys to intentionally [pti] bring the screen up)

What I need, is the actual intent, so I can make a quick toggle app to bring it up. Or if you know of an app that already does this (Or widget, but I'd rather not as widgets mess with sleep on this thing, with the Google Experience/market hack).

I know that it can be done by emulating a home key press that's longer than the longpress timeout.

The Cube is also running on 4.2.2 and is rooted. Is there any tweak or an app that can add this button?

Android :: Remove Application From Recent Application List

Sep 21, 2010

I guess that Android won't let people to do this, because they think they have perfect handle for the task/applications. However, I really need to do this in my case.

I have an activity A acting as the entry point of my application. In that activity, it reads the preference and decided which activity to start, say B or C. After that, it finishes itself. So, activity A never appears to the users.

My application stores things on sdcard, and reads from it constantly. So, when the sdcard is unmounted, I need to display a message to the user that the sdcard is unavailable, instead of opening B or C. I set a check in A to display that message when sdcard is unavilable. When that message is displayed, A will not try to start B or C.

Things works perfectly if user only enter my application from application launcher. However, I found that user can also enter my application by long pressing home and choose it from the recent application list, if he has opened it recently. When user does that, it skips A and goes directly to B or C. I don't have the check in both of them, so exception is thrown while I am trying to access sdcard, and force close dialog pops up.

I can simply move my check to both B and C to fix this problem. But in the future, the number of activities started from A will increase. If there are 6 of them, I'll need to copy this check to 6 places. Needless to say, this looks very ugly, and is a maintenance nightmare.

So, the best fix should be removing my application from recent application list when the sdcard is uunmounted. However, I can't find how to do this. Even killing the process or use ActivityManager.restartPackage, it still appears in the list. Can anyone tell me how to remove it from the list?

General :: Hide Root / Su From Another Application?

Jun 15, 2011

My company has a policy for our company email application (Good) that doesn't allow the application to run if a phone is rooted. Brilliant, the application is password protected and has remote wipe capabilities, but that still isn't enough for them! Which means I'm stuck carrying two phones around. I would like to either hide superuser/su/root from the phone when I'm not needing the escalated rights, or just block it from seeing it completely.

I'm currently running (about to upgrade to a new ROM, but not sure which):
Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
MODEL #: SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
FIRMWARE: 2.2
BASEBAND VERSION: I897UCJI6
KERNEL VER: 2.6.32.9
BUILD #: COGNITION.V2.3B8

One last thought if I can get this accomplished. I might be that I might be looking to get the new Samsung Infuse 4g (AT&T), since I'd finally be consolidating to 1 phone.

General :: Good App To Hide And Also Run (not Disable) Apps On ICS 4.0.4

Jun 27, 2012

I am looking at a good way to hide apps from the list. I want the apps to be able to run (like Email) and do the sync, but not to display the icons in the list. I have seen that ICS comes with a "Disable" function for system apps, but it doesn't work for me because it also prevents the app from running.

I also want a way to launch the apps myself (through a hidden menu or command) at will.

I have tried things like Application Protection, which allows you to password protect the apps you want. However, since the icons are still there, it is still tempting for my kind to click and ask for the password.

General :: Android Market Installed Apps History

May 16, 2012

I don't think this is an issue specific to my phone model. When I go into the Android Market (or Play Store) and I look at my apps it previously showed purchased apps but now it shows all the apps I've ever installed. If I want to install an app I purchased previously I have to search through all the hundreds of apps I have ever installed!

I've tried to find a resolution via Google but I keep getting results showing how to clear market search history.

Like I said, previously before I upgraded to ICS the market only showed installed apps and purchased apps that I haven't installed, now it shows every app I have ever installed and it seems to include apps I installed on my android tablet!

Yet I have not been able to find any. I have a few apps that I want to hide from my family and friends.

I would rather not root my phone as I am not that technically advanced!
