Android : How To Add OnClick Handler To View In List Item

Aug 12, 2010

I have a ListActivity where the list items are defined in another XML layout. The list item layout contains an ImageView, a CheckBox, a TextView and such.

What I want is to set an onClick listener to the CheckBox in each list item. That is easy enough. The trouble is I need that onClick handler to know which position in the list it is.

I'm attaching the listener to the CheckBox in getView after that convertView has been inflated. The getView method has a position parameter, but I cannot reference it in the onClick handler for my CheckBox. I understand why, but I don't know how to get around it. How do I accomplish this?

Android :: OnClick() Event On An Item Of ListView Custom Row Layout

Nov 15, 2010

I have a ListView whose rows are formatted by me. Each row has a mix of ImageView and TextView. I have also implemented my own adapter and am able to draw each row through it.

Now, I would want something like this-

User clicks on an ImageView (not anywhere else on the row, but only this ImageView should respond to clicks)
I get to know the position of the row whose ImageView was clicked.

I have tried many things for this and have wanted my code to be as efficient as possible (in terms of overkill).
Currently i can capture the click event on that particular ImageView only, but I can't know which row was clicked.

I have provided an attribute in the Row XML like this-

CODE:..................

And in my code, I have a method like this:

CODE:..............

I can get the parent row (perhaps) but am not sure how to go further from here.

Android :: Click In List View Item Changes Status Of Elements Inside Item?

Apr 9, 2010

I don't know exactly how to explain this problem, but I'll try. I have a ListView with several items. Each item has inside a TextView and two ImageView. I want the ImageView change when I click on them, and I want to open a context menu when I press for a long time into the ListView item. For the ImageView, everything works properly. For the whole item, I can show the context menu after a long press, but my problem is that the ImageView changes as well when I am pressing the TextView, for example.I hope you understand my problem. I think that all the children of a view are affected by an event in the parent, but I am not sure.

Android :: List Child Item Focus Change?

Nov 19, 2010

I have a list view which contains different numbers and i have a button below with the name "Call". The expected spec is to change the button background to blue, only if user clicks on list item, and if user clicks on some other views, i need to change the button background to white.

My work around for this issue:

I have set onfocusChangeListener() for the list live, but onFocusChanged() is getting called if next view gets the focus.

Expected result:

1) Background of the button should change to blue if user clicks on list child item.

2) Background of the button should change to white if user clicks on other views.

Android :: Haptic Feedback: OnClick() Event Vs HapticFeedbackEnabled In The View

May 13, 2010

If you want a button to provide haptic feedback (ie, the phone vibrates very briefly so you can feel that you really pushed the button), what's the standard way to do that?

It seems you can either explicitly set an onClick() event and call the vibrate() function, giving a number of milliseconds to vibrate, or you can set hapticFeedbackEnabled in the view.

The documentation seems to indicate that the latter only works for long-presses or virtual on-screen keys: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#performHapticFeedback(int)

If that's right, then I need to either make my button a virtual on-screen key or manually set the onClick() event.

Also, if I want the vibrating to happen immediately when the user's finger touches the button, as opposed to when their finger "releases" the button, what's the best way to accomplish that?

Android :: Focus In List When First List Item Should Be Disabled

Aug 23, 2010

I use tabs in my Android application and one of my tabs contains a listview. I'm noticing some weird behavior when I override isEnabled in my list's adapter and then try to use the D-pad to move up and down through the list and to my tabs.If the 0th item of the list is enabled, then everything works as expected - I can move down through the list, and then up again and once I reach the top of the list, pressing up moves focus to my tab. However, if the 0th item is DISABLED (isEnabled in my adapter returns false), then when I press up while position 1 is focused, the focus gets stuck. It doesn't move up to the tab as I would have expected and instead stays on position 1 of the list.

Android :: Adding Item To View Programatically?

Nov 8, 2010

I am trying to find out how I can add an item (from xml drawable/workaround_item.xml) in a LinearLayout that is vertically aligned.

CODE:.........

At the beggining I was trying to use a ListView but as far I as know there is a bug using listview inside a scrollview. I was doing this because i have more components on the view that should be scrolled together with the list view. So I decided to remove the listview and implement a simple linear layout where i will be adding each element bellow other and so on.

The layout for the activity is as folow (layout/workaround.xml) and i would like to start adding the elements below the top bar.

CODE:........

Thats my java code:

CODE:......

Thats the result i am getting: http://twitpic.com/3562yu

Does android allow us to do this? If so, Hoe can I add the elements and set their values? (this layout will be dispalying results of soccer games).

Android :: Best Way To Create A Custom View For Every List Item?

Nov 4, 2010

As I am reviewing and prototyping my android project, I noticed that there is a view that has a list of items that are very customized. I have figured out most of my tools that I plan to use but I need some advice.

I have a list of items which can contain photos, some text to the right, an image to the bottom and more text below that. Very confusing I know. Each of these might be present for an item. The only thing that will always be there is the title.

So my question - what is the best way to create each custom list item view? I am thinking I have to use this getView to create each view. But when creating each view, is it best to 1) create a view dynamically and adding an image, for example, if it exists, or 2) create an xml file with all possible elements and hide them depending on the item?
