Hide App Icon From Android Application List

Nov 1, 2010

Is there any way to hide an application icon from Android applications list ? The application should be downloaded from Market and opened some GUI for configuring my application. I don't want to see any icon of my application in applications list. User should not be able to run it.

By the way I know some way:remove this line from manifest <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> But it is not worked for me, because the GUI is not shown.

Android :: DDMS Doesn't Show Process List On Device

Oct 15, 2009

I have two phones, one running 1.5 and the other on 1.6. When I connect the 1.6 device via usb, DDMS recognizes it and in the top-left pane shows: HT842....... | Online | 1.6, debug

It then lists the individual processes, I can select them and use various tools like allocation tracker.

But when I connect the 1.5 device, DDMS recognizes it but shows: HT95A....... | Online | 1.5

But it does not show any of the processes on the device, so I am not able to do use allocation tracker and such. The sysinfo tab works, and I can monitor logcat with filter and such in the bottom pane.

What am I missing here? Obviously the 1.5 device has USB debugging enabled. Why does it not show 'debug' in DDMS? I'm using SDK 1.5_r2 on linux (Ubuntu 9.04), if that makes a difference.

Android :: Activity Of Killed Process Still Visible In List After Home Pressed

Sep 23, 2010

like many others, I want to kill my Android application on "exit" button. Really kill, not just move to background and stop all active code. (I know very well that Android does not like it.) I found Process.killProcess(Process.myPid()); and System.exit(0) which both work fine (I have no problem with activity stack, the "exit" button is in my base Activity.). But there is a problem. When I kill my process and I am back in the shell, I press [Home] button. It shows list of applications that are on the background including my application which has been killed.

Is there a way how to do both: 1) kill the process and 2) remove it from the Android application list that is shown after user presses [Home] button? Thanks for all replays (with the exception of that stupid "you should not exit applications explicitly on Android"

Android :: Getting List Of Installed App's - How To Launch One Of Them

Jul 20, 2010

My first application will just be a kind of launcher that I would like to improve. This launcher will launch a custom Home that the user has installed. That's like the application "Home Switcher, but I would like to do that myself.

So my first goal is to get all "Home" applications list: that's really easy and the code is there:

CODE:.......

Now I would like to do that in a listview. My first problem is to get the Icon: I failed, but that's not my main problem ( if you can help me I would be happy)

I succeed to make a listview with all the names of the installed Home:

CODE:........

And now when I click on a home, I would like to lauch the Home, so what I did is:

CODE:...............................

So, there is a box that that appear and ask me:

Complete action using:
LauncherPro - or Sense - or ADW
Wallaper Gallery

I think I am close to what I would like to do. what I miss or give me an example of a Launcher that would be a few linecode.

Android :: Get List Of All Input Methods That Are Installed On Phone?

Nov 17, 2010

I'm trying to display a list of all the Input Methods that are currently installed on the phone.Does anybody know how to accomplish this? I don't care how I have to do it, I just need to be able to produce a list of Input Methods as they appear in the phone's Language and Keyboards menu and then store the user's selection. I thought maybe I could just use the InputMethodManager to launch the standard Input Method selection menu and then see which one the user picked by looking at which IME is currently selected after the menu closes, but as far as I can tell there's no way to see which IME is currently selected in the system.

Is there any way to generate a list of all the apps installed on your phone that I can save/print? I'd like to create the list in the even that I need to reset the phone at some point (and also 'cause I'm a bit OCD about backing all kinds of stuff up). I've reset my phone four times (due to returns for HW issues) and have never had the google backup process actually restore my apps for me (and yes, backup is turned on in Settings). So anyone know of an automated process or marketplace app to do this?

Android :: Remote Service Process Persists - I.e. Won't Disappear From Process Table

Feb 21, 2009

At a certain point in my program, when I'm completely done with my service, my activity executes unbindService() and stopService() -- yet the process persists. I can tell that it persists because I run "ps" in "adb -e shell":

CODE:.............

"adb logcat", I can show you the sequence of events:

ACTIVITY: context.unbindService(serviceConnection);

SERVICE: onUnbind();

ACTIVITY: stopService(serviceIntent); & returns true!

SERVICE: onDestroy();

First, my activity calls unbindService(serviceConnection). According to the documentation, unbindService() will "Disconnect from an application service. You will no longer receive calls as the service is restarted, and the service is now allowed to stop at any time." So that is fine, and it is happening.

Appropriately, we see the onUnbind() call happen on the service side. According to the documentation, onUnbind() is called when "all clients have disconnected from a particular interface published by the service." So this confirms the correct service connection is being passed, and that the service is responding accordingly.

Next, my activity calls stopService(serviceIntent), and returns true. According to the documentation, stopService() does the following: "If there is a service matching the given Intent that is already running, then it is stopped and true is returned; else false is returned." Again, this is happening and returning true.

In response, the service's onDestroy() method is called. According to the documentation, onDestroy() is "Called by the system to notify a Service that it is no longer used and is being removed. The service should clean up any resources it holds (threads, registered receivers, etc) at this point. Upon return, there will be no more calls in to this Service object and it is effectively dead."

At this point I expect the process to disappear from the process table. Yet it remains indefinitely. But why?

Also, the process is so persistent that I can bind to it again, and I see that it is the same exact process responding because the PID (process ID) is the same!
