View 8 RepliesI am working on a widget and have it pretty much how I like it, but I have one problem. When I package it and install it, it says in the "allow this application to" portion that it wants access to phone calls and storage. I know this will be a no-go if I want anyone to ever use it. I have not set up any permissions. Same thing happens even if I make Hello World.

One functionality that my app offers is to make a phone call to these companies by tapping a button in the app, including emergency numbers.
Google Play says that the app requires "direct phone access, it can call phone numbers without your intervention, which can lead to a high phone bill, but not emergency numbers". This doesn't completely fit my intention.
My app would work just fine if it had to ask the user every time it wanted to make a call, and it doesn't call anything when no buttons are tapped, plus I DO want the app to be able to call emergency numbers (with the user's consent off course).
I even tried flashing a custom rom (Fresh) on the last attempt and it just seems like it is giving me the Sprint stock Rom. Shouldn't the custom Rom look different? Once rooted do I still need to use Unrevoked method to grant superuser access for Apps?

"from 5th October, 30 million customers the combined customer base of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK - will be offered the opportunity to access both networks, enabling them to make calls and send texts in more places in the UK for no extra cost."
This is great news from those suffering from sub-par reception, and im pretty sure will obliterate the competition in terms of available phone signal.
I used to have the Instinct any when people would call or when I would get a text message my phone would say the name of the person calling out loud. Does anyone know if there is an app for the HTC EVO?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my Sprint HTC Hero to the latest official firmware. I was looking for 2 apps if they exist:
1: I had a program on 1.5 that was called city caller ID and it displayed the city and state of incoming calls. When I upgraded to the newest software, I can't locate this software in the Android market. So I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions on Caller ID apps that work good?
2: In regards to the other app, I was wondering if they had something like the Blackberry does where when I have the phone plugged in and the screen times out, a clock would be on the screen instead of just the normal black screen?
I've bought unlocked G1 to use in Pakistan with 2G network. I've researched a lot to know how to use it since i've never known of Andriod.
I've understood that there is "Market" rich of applications but unfortunately i hvn't setup internet yet, i can't access to Market.
Do anyone know url if i can access from my laptop and then install it on G1 through SDK.
I need to install Video Recorder and other good applications.
I tried to know what the shit cupcake is but flunked as its above of my understanding. However, i'll keep on trying to know how could i do for my G1.
But for instance, i need url of Market.
"your mobile device is not supported by this application" I'm receiving this message everytime i go to samsung apps via kies. galaxy is not on the list of phones to choose? although kies is detecting it as GT I9000 (is it correct?) how can i access samsung apps?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just spoke to a new [stock] Hero owner in the UK who's trying to purchase PhoneMyPC. He reports that it's not available in the market, and we suspect the same with some others.
Does anybody know, is there a problem with the Market for Hero owners, UK residents, or some combination?
I bought a se x10 mini pro and have got the problem that I seem not to be able to access any apps the cost money. I can access the market, but no pay-versions of the apps are found. Is there some place I need to activate this feature or what?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan android apps share access to the audio output? I sometimes use Maps Navigation, which will give audible turn by turn instructions. I plug the EVO to my car stero using a patch cord so that I hear the instructions over my radio.
However, if I'm using another application that outputs audio, like Pandora or the music player, they go silent as soon as Maps speaks an instruction.
What I would like is for the apps to be able to share the audio output with some kind of priority set, so that Pandora would pause momentarily while Maps spoke an instruction and then resume.
Is that possible?
I am a new to the Android world and am concerned with the creators of the apps having access to info and all of a sudden I am getting a bunch of spam. Today, I was going to download a wall paper app and when I went to install it said something to the extent of having access to personal information.

The Remotecall app in Playstore still requires me to pick up my phone in order to actually hear something..
its got all the other features i'd like to use: answer calls from my PC, make calls from pc (from , for example, the outlook contactlist), call Log capability; but i have to pick up my phone when i probably can just hear it through my headphone (connected to PC)
I think i should be looking for some sort of voip server on my phone and let my computer act as voip client, but i'm not entirely sure about that.
I would like to make some phone calls that do NOT appear on my Verizon phone bill. I have a DINC and want to call a cell phone. Both ends are in the US. I don't mind paying a service such as Skype. Is there a way to make this happen?

Obviously there is a wi-fi tether out there. And then there is the overclock. But I'm wondering what other apps you can use with a rooted phone that you otherwise can't. Are there paid apps out there that require root access? In other words, what's the big deal? Why do we root our phones?
This is an honest question. I'm not suggesting that it's not worth it - just trying to learn more about android. I'm a convert from Blackberry and I'm not going back.
I am unable to get internet access for my installed apps. I am able to browse through default browser and opera mini, suggesting that my internet connection is working fine. However, none of my apps are able to access it. I cannot use Play Store or youtube. I cannot even login to either twitter or facebook via their apps. I am using Nexus One on stock Froyo. Phone is rooted.

View 7 Replies View RelatedBe aware folks Rooting your Evo makes copy-protected apps "disappear" from the Market. I never had this problem on my rooted N1, however once I rooted Evo - it cannot see apps like NYTimes, bTunes, and basically any other app that's copy protected. I have read on XDA-forums that this has something to do with Market being affiliated with 'build.prop', but unclear as to what the fix for this will be, if any Right now, I am thinking of going back to stock because of this..
View 6 Replies View RelatedOther than just being spyware or something? Lately I've been afraid to download a lot of apps for these reasons. I can't figure out why a game for example would need access to my contacts list, or a launcher have to look at my call history.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that you can hold the home button down and wait for the list of recently used apps to come up - but for some reason, the second or so that it takes for the long press drives me crazy! Is there a way to make a screen icon that will take you to your recent apps? I would rather not install a whole new launcher to get this option - so are there any lightweight ones that do just that?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Google account on my Note 2 is registered under my gmail address for work. Every app I have ever purchased is under my work account. If I were to lose my job, I cannot use that email address anymore, thus losing everything I have purchased. Should I start a new gmail account and start buying apps through it? Can I just add a new email to my phone, or do I need to wipe the data? Can I have two emails where I can access apps through one, but not the other?

Im looking for an app which would show some popup window containing apps/folders which I've selected.
The idea is that I could quickly access my most-used apps, and maybe folders, without flicking through many home screens.
Im using the stock A2.1 launcher (on SE x10mp).
1: How do I access payable apps in marketplace, offcourse by paying, but so far I can only see the free ones.?
2: What is rooting, and what is the advantages from what the Hero is able of now?
Between looking around here and on androidzoom, I found a couple of apps I want. Problem when I use myphone to access the market, it says that they aren't there. Specifically, I am looking for Launcherpro beta and Adobe Reader. If I find them in androidzoom and scan the barcode its not there either. Short of rooting my phone to install market enabler, is there anything else I can do ?? Or are these not appearing because they won't run on 1.6 ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've rooted my Hero, flashed a custom ROM, flashed a custom kernel, and then I downloaded some root-requiring apps (namely setCPU and Wifi Tether). However, whenever I open these apps, they do not ask me for Superuser Permissions!
For example, when I open setCPU, it says "No root access detected. Are applications allowed access to root? Operating in read-only mode." How do I fix this?
My daughters are forever taking my phone to play with and downloading games etc. This isfine but it does limit what apps I can put on my phone. Does anyone know of any apps I can get whereby it will give me the function to hide apps and have a password to access them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTried to dig deeper into where and when apps are accessing your data networks regardless of whether it was while you are on wifi or mobile networks. I'm rooted running 4.1.1 and I'm looking for an app that sort of works like a proxy except for my own phone and just my phone's data. The goal is to see which apps are accessing the internet and what websites they are accessing and how often, ect. Basically I'd like to eavesdrop on my own apps. Is that possible? How can I do this?
