Android :: Wireless File Transfers Between Phone And Notebook
May 28, 2010
I'm looking for an app to transfer files to and from my HTC Desire and MacBook. I am currently doing it via an FTP Server app, but the big draw back is that it relies on internet upload speeds rather than using a LAN share, so it ends up being a lot slower than USB. I've tried ES File manager as that as LAN connectivity, but I couldn't get it working with my Mac.
On my Nokia N82, there was an app I used to use for this purpose called SymSMB (SymSMB for S60 3rd & 5th Edition by Telexy Networks :: Symbian software @ My-Symbian.com). What this did is allow my Mac too mount the entire SD card (or any folder of choice) from my N82 as a shared folder on my Mac, which was brilliant. Basically like accessing a shared folder on one computer from another. Is there an app that does this on Android?

I don't know how to set this up on my Droid X and Windows computers (XP Pro and Vista on the Wife's). Can someone point me to a tutorial or better yet, lay out here how to do this? I want to sync or move files between the phone and the computers, move pictures and music back and forth and anything else I desire. I see the DLNA and the Media Share stuff...I just don't know exactly how to set this up. I could probably figure it out, but I thought I'd ask because I'm sure someone already has set this up, knows how to direct the rest of us, and ultimately wants to make our lives easier.

I have a HTC Desire (great) but I wanna upgrade the stock 4GB MicroSD to a 16GB so I can get all my music on there (and hopefully more apps if Google can get it done). I went ahead and ordered a class 2 16GB card because I didn't have a lot to spend. My question is what are the advantages of a faster SD card such as a class 6? Is it just quicker file transfers or is their a significant increase in loading times or something else?

I have pretty much given up on trying to transfer files from my pc to my phone while running Linux.
I would guesstimate, 85% of the time, the transfered file gets corrupted. It happens on different phones and different Linux distros.
I would think the two would work well together since they both run on a Linux kernel.

Wondering if you all could help me out; I'm probably just a bumbling idiot, but any help would be appreciated. When I connect my phone to my laptop (running Windows 7 ultimate if that helps at all) it initially had issues collecting and recognizing the drivers.I went to HTC support, didn't find exactly what I needed as far as drivers were concerned but eventually, for some reason my computer officially detected my device, its drivers, and stated that it was ready to be used. Now I go to attempt to transfer music, but there's no icon in the my computer tray saying that the phone's connected as a mass storage device. I opened up Windows Media Player and it isn't in there as a synced device either. I used the disc that came with the phone but it seems to only have an application that tracks my exact usage (as far as minutes, texts, and data as well as transferring contacts and calendars which I'm not interested in) as opposed to something that helps actually sync my device for putting music on it.Please, bear with me here. It's my first true smartphone as my previous one was a Blackberry Curve 8330. It opened the exact way I would prefer this one to: as a mass storage device.Any glaringly obvious mistakes I'm making? Or is there a problem that could be hardware related on my end?

Search didn't provide any Droid specific answers for me, so here goes: My wife and I are looking into getting a router in our house, and I want to steer clear of any that will not work with My Droid. Our other uses will be my PS3 and her notebook. Are there any particular routers that we need to avoid?

I ordered a Cherrypal netbook because of my interest in low-cost, low-energy, low-raw-materials computers, as well as my agreement with the goal that Cherrypal professes of making available computers to the impoverished worldwide. On first going to the web-store there was the decision of which model to purchase. I was determined to get a model running Android OS (there are as well some Windows CE and LimeOS units). As Cherrypal is known for offering a sub-$100 computer, I briefly considered getting its 7" mini-netbook (which is the one that goes for that price). However I was lured by the styling, and white-silver color, and larger screen of its chiclet-keyboarded 10" netbook I ordered the netbook using the Cherrypal web-shop and my Visa card. While doing so I mistyped something and further thought I submitted my credit card information twice. Concerned that I might receive two Cherrypals and be double-billed due to my own mistake, I emailed the company. A couple or three hours later I got the response that neither input was received, and I should try again, which I then did. There were no further problems and my Visa was billed for the single purchase, which appeared with shipping as a $166.80 line item on my monthly statement billed by "cherrypal.com."I received the unit via USPS priority mail no more than three business days later. Opening the priority box, I pulled out a generic brown "notebook" box. Inside this box was the Cherrypal netbook, enclosed in a plastic bag, and position by styrofoam inserts. I don't think there were any printed instructions. There was a very small power adapter. The netbook was clearly new but I sensed it might have been handled or tested. That is to say it did not "feel" like the sort of packing and content typical for a mass-market item one might bring home from a big consumer electronics or department store.
The construction of the Cherrypal itself conveys a certain foreign-ness. Oh yes, it is nice looking. It is slick and smooth, silver, and has smooth flat white keys like peppermint Dentyne. It opens and closes nicely in its non-latching clamshell. But it seems to me, though I don't really know, that it is the type of electronics sold in markets on the other side of the world, in Asian markets, or some other equally distant markets. It is hard to describe, but it the unit has a character that is distinct from stuff sold in the West, including Asia-manufactured stuff sold in the West. There are three USB ports, audio in and out, an ethernet port, an SD-Card socket (no SD-Card is included), an ethernet port, a camera, and the unit has wireless capacity. So, would it be operable? Did I actually get a $148-netbook that runs Android? Yes. The battery was not charged so I plugged it in and booted. The Android boot screen informed me that it was loading version 1.7.2. The boot time was about 45 seconds. And there was Android. I knew it from my smartphone. The screen looked fine, yet again somehow foreign as well, though it has a single flickering pixel in the upper left.Moving on to the OS and software, I would say those are not as nice as the hardware. The desktop feels a bit awkward and unpolished. Despite the quick boot, it is a slow environment. The programs run slow. Cherrypal says "slow and sufficient." Having used it, I disagree about the second term. This OS and software are not sufficent on this hardware, at least not yet. I guess I would overall characterize the experience as just barely functional in some regards (browsing, connectivity, sound, a version of Android market, camera), dysfunctional in others (USB connectivity, I did not test everything there may be more dysfunction), and terribly slow overall. The battery seems to function okay, I guess I have since run off a full-charge like an hour and 15 minutes at least, though sorry I did not time this part and can't say for sure.

I'm really having a difficult time with the Evo regarding this issue. Once I start the call on my phone, how do I transfer the call to my car without hanging up and calling through the car?

I have tried many programs and aps to sync music to my incredible. I have used doubletwist, mediamonkey, sailing media sync, itunes agent, itunes export, isyncr, and songbird. From my experience, mediamonkey works the best and gets the job done better than the rest. My problem though is that when I sync playlists to the sd card, the program transfers all of the songs, but the last 20 or so songs won't play on the phone. It's almost as if the transfer didn't finish. Is anybody else having this problem or know of a fix?

The main reason i wanted a rooted phone was so i could connect to my laptops ad hoc network and use a program for wireless keyboard and mouse. i cant really afford the real thing at the moment and with my laptop hooked up to my flat screen its kind of necessary to have..
So ive rooted my phone and tried a few roms. currently i have this one: [ROM] [05/18/2010] Tainted Vanilla V1.4 OVERCLOCKED - xda-developers
I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?
The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..

Is there anyway for the phone to remember my password, so that when it tries to connect to the WiFi, it will NOT ask me to enter the password. It is a hexadecimal number and it is frustrating me when I have to enter it every few minutes when the phone finds a different network, then wants to switch back to mine.
