Android :: What Is Best Way To Sent / Receive Data From Remote Database?
Mar 6, 2009
I'm try to sent/receive data from my remote db server (MySQL) , I know I can't connect the MySQL directly on android . And I'm trying to use the soap , but I'm not sure if this is the right way?I don't have any experience on it , so my question is:" what is the way to sent/receive data from remote db server " in general ? Does it have any examples I can see ?
We have an android app that currently sends data to a php script which writes to a mysql DB on the same server. We are thinking of using a scalable remote DB e.g. amazon RDS.The question is how does our android app write to these remote DBs? Do they have some kind of rest API, or do we have to send the data to the same php script on our server but use that to post to the remote mysql DB?
ive been looking for a week now i need some help connecting to a remote database...i want my app to get data out of the database and update the database.ive tried this http://www.helloandroid.com/tutorials/connecting-mysql-database but i dont understand it.
How can I make a simple connection with remote db in android app? Basically, I want to save users names, emails etc. in a remote database and retrieve them later on demand. When answering - could you provide me some sample code so I can figure it out myself please?
I have an android APP. I need to connect to a remote D.B. on the internet. All i know is that i have to use a Web Service, installed on the remote DB server. With my Android APP i have to connect to the web service, and the web service will do the logical operations to get the necesary data from the D.B. and will send them to me. the web service is not a problem, i have a friend that will do it (i have no idea about web services), but i dont know how i have to do the connexion with the Web Services, and also i dont know how have to be the functions of the Web Service.I have searched for tutorials on google but i can't find a good tutorial for beginners like me.can someone give me a little help? for example, a good tutorial for beginners connecting android to a remote DB with webservices?
I am making an android app, and i need to connect to a remote database with a webservice. as i know, i will recibe a XML from the webservice, with the result's of my SELECT query (various rows in some cases) i have no idea about XML, and also i have no idea about web services, i only know that i will recibe a XML and i have to parse it to obtain the data. there is a XML parser for this purpose? easy to add to my app and easy to configure?
The idea is to allow developers to access a remote database provided by google. In android the developer will need a special permission to be set at the manifest file. This could allow applications to keep a backup of users application data without having to sign in ever, seamless.Users could than sign-in to their gmail and see a list of applications that are currently storing data on their gmail space. The user could be allowed to wipe the data or even block the application from storing data to it.This idea make the most sense since Android will be a platform were users will be constantly changing android phones as new better ones come out.
talk about limited information! I'm trying to get my Android application to connect to an online database to access information. There's quite a bit of info including geotags and these are going to be mapped on my app. The developer site has the very informative piece of information:You can use the network (when it's available) to store and retrieve data on your own web-based services.
I need to explore the world "You wrote a killer application, but do you have an Android/iPhone/iPad client?".
My questions are:
1) which is the best way to send data to those devices? Soap and Rest as suggested here? Or are there some specific techniques? (My app is written in Delphi and I can expose data with webservices if needed)
2) For x-platform (where by x I mean basically apple products and android) development is there a tool? Or the only solution is write one client per platform that "embeds" a web application optimized for mobile devices?
3) which are the techniques for caching locally some data / working offline? Is it different in the 2 worlds or is it common?
I needed to call a remote service. The service basically fetches data from the network. I am bind the connection once, and then I unbind the connection when the user is no more in that page. Everything works fine.Except that when I call the sa,e remote method for 17th time,it just does not call the service at all.It neither throws the DeadObjecti Exception. I have run out of ideas. Is there anything that I may be missing.
I am new to android. From android i can send data to another port. But i am not able to receive the data using udp in android. How to receive data by using udp in android emulator? can anyone help me to receive the udp data in android? Code is here...
The object passing between an Android service and the remote binder is happening through serialization of the object. If the service needs to return a very large collection, it seems very inefficient to use this. What is the recommended way to deal with this?
I'm very new to the Android platform, but i was hoping to write a quick and neat little android app which will receive data from blue tooth and to graph the data. I'm trying to use a LM Technologies LM049 blue tooth adapter to send serial data to my HTC Dersire 2.1 android handset. At the moment i'm trying to just prove i can send ascii characters to the phone. Not quite sure where to begin.
i am new to android. I want to connect with server. Like i want to sent data and receive data from server through Http Connection. Can anyone help me how to do this. Can anyone provide me the sample of both side-client as well as server side.
I am new to android.I need to know how to receive the udp data in android emulator.Data's are coming from the PC (UDP SERVER is running on the pc).I am using Eclipse IDE.Can anyone guide me to solve this ?
I have a Windows web server already set up with a website (unlimited application pools) and I want to be able to access a database on that server via the Android app I'm developing. How can I do this? Can someone point me to a tutorial or give code example of how this cross-platform (Android/Java to ASP.NET/C#) communication can be done? (I'm trying to create a leader board or global scoreboard for my Android game on my server.)
I am experiencing a problem where when the android device wake up from sleep, the Activity would take forever to get redrawn(and have to terminate it most of the time). I am not sure why, but when I comment out the code below where it retrieves an object from the database based on id stored in the bundle, the problem goes away.
Not sure why the db transaction is causing an issue.
secondly, is it better to store the object in bundle instead of storing its id and retrieving it from db in onCreate?
If I have a bunch of data that is never going to change (eg. an English language dictionary or the rgb values of a couple hundred color names), how do I use an SQLite database to store it? I know a database is faster than loading everything into memory when the app starts, but how do I make the database either the first time the app runs or "before" the apps ever runs?
I am an android application developer. I am developing an application which requires of me to use Sqlite database. I have implemented fetching the data, but i am facing problems when i try to insert data into the Sqlite database. The problem that i am having is that the new data i enter is not fetched, i.e nothing is new is being entered into the database.
this is the method i wrote in Data.java myDataBase is an object of SQLiteDatabase public void insertTitle(String Recipe) ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(COLUMN_NAME,value); myDataBase.insert(ZRECIPE, null, initialValues); } and i create an object "d" of it in Add.java, where i call the "insertTitle()" method. But nothing is inserted.
I am implementing an android application and i can't figure out how to solve this problem : When user clicks to the update button , i want to connect to the my server and check if there is any update on the data , if there is , i want to get data from server and update the database.Should i use xml structure to check and get updates from server or is there any smarter ways to achieve this ?
