Android :: Want List Of Current Apps When Open A Folder?
Jun 1, 2010
When moving apps into folders does it only create a shortcut to the app? When I open app drawer I would like to have/see only 3 or 4 folders...not a list of current apps. Is this possible?

In Gmail, when I get a "wmv" attachment and hit the "preview" button, I get a list of video players that I have installed, but the one that will actually play a wmv file is not on the list. The others will only play the audio. Where do I go to add the player that will handle wmv files to the list of choices in Gmail?

Ok I have been trying to figure this out for a while. I have an application that needs to read images from a folder created by the application on the sdcard. I have no idea what the names of the files are because the user specifies the names of the files. I need to read the images from the folder and make something like the default image viewer, where you can share them delete them and things like that. Im thinking read them into a grid view first but 1) cant figure out how to dynamically read them from a folder 2) how would I implement the image options like the default viewer? If there was a way to open the default viewer on a certain folder that would help.
Anyways any input would be amazing been working on it for a while.

I have installed ADB and the whole Android SDK to root my asus transformer infinity (tf700t). I have taken all the steps every forum on the web describes: installing everything trough the manager, adjusting the path in the System Variables, and finally it getting it to work together with my tablet. However, when I try to flash/copy/install files from my folder (yes these files are in the same folder as adb.exe and fastboot.exe, which is the folder I used in the System Variables) It can't either find these files or it cannot open these files. When i put in the command 'path' however. I does give me the path where the files can be found.

so I am using Nova launcher and minimalistic text widget and I am making a theme where there are big blocks of clickable text. One of the things I would like to do is to open a app folder when i click on one of the text blocks. I was thinking I could just make a transparent widget or something above minimalistic text widget because it does not look like there is a way to do that with the app. Is there a way to resize folders with nova launcher? am I better off just using something like Simi folder and setting a big name for the folder and no icon or something?

I am using openContextMenu() when someone clicks on an item of a list (not when they long press as usual). The context menu does appear, however, it shows the context menu for the last item that the context menu had appeared. For example, if I long press the item C of the list then the context menu for item C appears, and later if I click on item B, with openContextMenu() the context menu for item C will again appear, not for B that I was expecting. How can I set the current item for which the context menu will appear to be the item of the list the user clicks on? I do have the position from onListItemClick() and I was trying to find a call like setContextMenuItem() or something, but I can't find anything.

I have recently purchased an unlocked HTC Desire. As you may or may not know, here in Australia the only carrier of the Desire is Telstra. However I use 3 mobile so that's the reason I purchased an unlocked device.
My problem is that my phone has about a dozen or more apps which are installed by Telstra and uninstallable. Most of them are 100% useless because I'm not even on their network and I'd like them out of my applications list.
I've had a read around and I saw something about being able to remove them by deleting the file and then uninstalling them using a command prompt program.
Would anyone please be able to give me detailed instructions on how to do this because I'm not sure how to find the system/apps folder and I'm also not sure on how to get the command prompt thing to work.

I am just getting started with the Android SDK and I had a quick question. I am trying to set up a ListView with a rectangle of color on the left and then a bit of text for each row. I also want to make it so I can click each entry in the list and open a new activity to display some information (similar to the contact list).

Is there a way to remove apps from My Android Apps list, on Android Market / Google Play? I have a few hundred in my list and a few dozen of those are apps I plan to never install again. I'd like to remove them from my list in the Market/Play. I've already uninstalled them from my phone.

I have a mapview where I want to track the user's current location. GPS as well as 'use wireless networks' is activated in my phone settings.
Nevertheless, since I'm indoor I don't get a GPS fix, therefore the location is determined via network; wifi spot is available.
I have the Google Maps app running as well as my application running.
Strangely, the current location differes between Google Maps and my application, where the Google Maps is very accurate while in my app the location is somehow off a few 100 meters.
In my application I basically do the following (for debugging purposes now):
1) initially place one marker on the map: geopoint retrieved via locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER);
2) initially place another marker on the map: geopoint retrieved via locationManager.getLastKnownLocation(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER);
This will put the last known locations of both providers onto the map (eventually last known from outside my app).
3) then for the regular updates (since I don't get a GPS fix anyway indoor here), I do:
locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 0, 0, baseLocationListener);
You can see for the frequency and distance I pass the 0 param in both cases.
In the app manifest, the following permissions are granted:
android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
android.permission.ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION
Actually my baseLocationListener does get called, which I see in the log, but the updated location is somehow the same as the last known current position (of LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER), same lat/lng.
I thought maybe I overlooked something or missed a parameter or setting, or my code has a bug. Therefore I installed some other (3 in total) LBS apps from the Android market that also show the current user's location. The current locations displayed in those apps are equals to the one in my application - and they're all some 100 meters off - but at least all the same.
See the screenshot here:
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8679/mapproblem.png
Now I am wondering:
1) as I understand, getLastKnowLocation is system-wide and not app-wide, why are there differences between the location in Google maps and all the other apps?
2) does Google Maps not update the lastKnownLocation of a provider?
3) does Google Maps use a different custom location provider (i.e. due to licensing reasons) other than GPS_PROVIDER or NETWORK_PROVIDER as they are in the SDK?
4) how do achieve the same accurate result with the NETWORK_PROVIDER like Google Maps does?

It seems that the problem is in the data quality of the different map provider that are used for Google Maps and MapView in SDK, which differ.
The map tiles coordinates don't seem to be very accurate, just like in the public google maps web api / tiles.
See this screenshot for an example, where I pinned the same geo point. http://img339.imageshack.us/i/gmaps2.png/
The map using the public map api is off a few hundred meters. Seems that we just have to live with it.

A lot of open source libraries that aid in Android application development have sprung up with time. IMO looking at source code of good projects helps learn the system better, faster and not to mention reduces development time. Is there a recommended list of such projects or if not, can we build such a list? I think it will really be useful to other developers.

Is anyone aware of a listing of apps that require Android 2.1 to run (e.g. apps like Google Goggles, etc.)? I've searched the threads here at Android Forums and elsewhere and haven't been able to find such a list or site.
Now that I upgraded to 2.1, I'd like to "see what I've been missing" and take advantage of the new OS.

I've been adding and changing things constantly on my Droid X since I got it, as I know most of you have. I thought I'd make this thread to show some newcomers a decent app list, and home screen setup. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask.I'll start with my current apps, and then post some pics of my home screens.
