I have a listview. Whenever I strike an item of listview the debugger gets opened instead of starting a new activity (i.e. what I want). Code...

P.S. all the xml files are correct.

Android :: How To Reach The Sub Activity Code In Debug Mode

Jul 25, 2010

I have a activity B that is called by activity A, I want to debug the code in B. I have set the breakpoint, however the debug control never enters B.

CODE:................

When I debug in eclipse, although the class B is called from class A, the debbugger pointer never enters the new window, where I have placed a debug point in Class B. I am not able to take the pointer control to class B and stop at a specific point, which will help me verify certain variable values.

Android :: Starting Service From Other Apk - Throws NoClassDefFoundError Exception

I have two projects in Eclipse: service and UI client.

In onCreate in UI client I have:startService(new Intent(this, ExampleService.class));

But this fragment: ExampleService.class throws NoClassDefFoundError exception at runtime. I have installed ExampleService.apk, and ExampleUiClient.apk. Project compiles, and everything looks fine. What I am doing wrong?

Is it possible to start service from other apk?

Android :: Activity - Sometimes - Throws Wrong State Class Exception When Being Resumed After Kill

Nov 24, 2009

I'm testing how my app behaves when killed by the OS due to low memory conditions. I always have three activities on the stack, like: A B C (then C launches maps or some other heavy process)

when my app is killed, and I return to it, C starts itself up again ok. When I hit the back button to go to B, I [sometimes] get an exception thrown which I can't trace. Output is below. I don't know where to go from here. I've only seen one other post mentioning this exception, but it was related to a reproducable error when rotating the device. This only happens sometimes.

Android :: Starting Second Activity From Main Activity On Button Click

Need an example of how to create/start a new activity from the main activity. I have a button click event on the main layout. Originally I just used setContentView(R.layout.secondactivity); which brings up the layout but I don't think that is correct since the secondactivity class is not instantiated at this point yet. I have looked for such an example and can not find one.

Has anyone out there gotten this to work? If so, what did you have to do?

Android :: Application With Debug Or Release Mode

Sep 3, 2009

I'm trying to figure out a way to programmatically determine if my build was built in debug mode vs. release mode. I'd like to hide some items in my settings screen if it's release. When I build my app in Eclipse I'm building by default in Debug mode. However, when I build the app using the command line, I build it in release mode and sign the app using the jarsigner tool.

I've tried using:
PackageInfo appInfo = manager.getPackageInfo("com.adobe.psmobile", PackageManager.GET_SIGNATURES);
to test if
appInfo.signatures[0].toCharsString()
matches my debug signature and that didn't seem to work.

I'm now trying to see if I can introspect the app's KeyStore, to match the default debug alias described here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html of "androiddebugkey"
but I haven't figured out how to retrieve the app's KeyStore yet.

General :: Android USB Debug Mode Works In Windows Not In Ubuntu

Nov 1, 2012

In Ubuntu, I have double checked the udev rules. They all look perfect. (I cross checked using another phone too). The USB debug mode doesn't show up no matter what. And I have the adb_usb.ini in the right place. I have tried running all possible combinations of running adb, adb start-server as root. But

Code:

adb devices shows no devices at all.

However, with the USB debugging option enabled on phone, it worked on Win7 after windows installed a Common handset driver.

If I go back to Ubuntu without disconnecting the cable and do

Code:
$ adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
1234567890ABCDEFdevice

The product id is 1234567890ABCDEF and I am able to see it and everthing works fine!!But the moment I disconnect the USB cable, its gone.

So I guess it's not the development machine that is at fault. The device seems to be setting a property while in Windows which stays latched till the usb connection goes off.

Btw the Code:

/data/property/persist.service.adb.enable is 1 too.

Android :: Service Stops Running In Standby Mode

May 23, 2009

I'm trying to log the phone's cell movement. So I created a PhoneStateListener that is being called when the CellLocation has been changed. Then it informs a logging service to write that new cell information to a log file.

This works as long as the screen is on. But when the screen goes off, the logging stops.

I have two classes:

The PhoneStateListener gets loaded on boot time public class CellStateListener extends PhoneStateListener { public void onCellLocationChanged(CellLocation location) {...this is the logging service which is informed when the cell location changes listener.onCellChanged(mcc, mnc, lac, cid); ... }

Android :: App Works On WiFi In Debug Mode Or On Emulator Not On Cell Network

Jul 9, 2010

I have an android application that parses some HTML, downloads an image, and displays it. I'm using an AsyncTask to do the HTML parsing and image downloading, but that shouldn't be relevant. I never have a problem when I'm on WiFi on my phone, when I'm using the Eclipse debugger on my phone, or when I'm using the emulator. When I have my phone on the cell network (even with pretty good reception), the image sometimes fails to display. I'm having a hard time figuring out what is wrong, since the problem cannot be reproduced in the debugger. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Update: I have narrowed it down to the image downloading function. This way my original code:.......................

Does anyone know if there is something like this and if not what is the best way to handle an intro screen?I tried googling for a few hours to find it but can't for the life of me.

Android :: How To Debug Launcher Activity In Eclipse

Apr 16, 2009

I am trying to following this documentation 'http://source.android.com/using-eclipse' to debug android Launcher Activity in eclipse.

It said' You may need to open the Debug perspective (next to the "Java" perspective icon in the upper-right, click the small "Open Perspective" icon and select "Debug"). Once you do, you should see a list of threads; if you select one and break it (by clicking the "pause" icon), it should show the stack trace, source file, and line where execution is at. Breakpoints and whatnot should all work.

My question is which threads I need to select in order to debug Launcher Activity? I don't see a thread name Launcher.

Android :: Service Stops When Activity Is Closed

Nov 23, 2010

If I understand it correctly, bindService() with BIND_AUTO_CREATE will start a service and will not die until all bindings are all unbinded.

But if I bindService(BIND_AUTO_CREATE) at onCreate() and hit back button to close the activity, the service calls onDestroy() and dies also.

I don't call unbind() at anytime. So is that mean when the Activity got destroyed, the binding got destroyed also and the service gets destroyed also?

What if I want the service to be always running, at the same time when the activity starts I want to bind it so that I can access the service?

If I call StartService() and then bindService() at onCreate(), it will restart the service at every launch of Activity. (Which I don't want).

So I could I start service once and then bind next time I launch the activity?

General :: Flash Device With Broken Screen And Debug Mode Not On

Jan 28, 2014

I have a completely broken screen/lcd/digitizer on my Samsung Galaxy S3, debug mode was not on. The phone works as it will still vibrate when turned on and the LED / Menu / Back buttons light up during a boot. USB connector works as well. The phone was not previously rooted.

I had most important data on the sd card and I've already wrote off any other data on the phone as I've since moved on to a GN2. I would like to make use of the S3 (not necessarily as a phone but a server, security camera, etc.). I've read several posts here about my options and looked at numerous google articles, all seem to require debug mode being on or assume/require the data/OS must remain as this is what the user is trying to recover. I do not care if all data is lost on the phone, I just want to make the device useful again.

Am I out of luck if debug mode was not enabled or can I flash through adb via some obscure mechanism? Also note that fastboot is not an option here as the S3 (samsung) does not have it enabled. I am unable to get into "Download Mode" as I cannot see info on the screen.

Android :: Attempt To Stub Android Activity Class Using PowerMockito Throws RuntimeException - Stub

Sep 17, 2010

I found this example where they used PowerMock and EasyMock to stub/mock the Menu and MenuItem classes for android. I have been trying to do something similar with PowerMock and Mockito with the Activity class.

I understand that a lot of the methods are final and that in the Android.jar they all just throw RuntimeException("Stub!").

I also understand that this test isn't complete but I just wanting to see if it is possible to mock the android Activity class.

But given that PowerMock allows you to mock classes with final methods shouldn't this code work?

CODE:............

I would think that the RuntimeException would no longer occur and "Title" would be returned but it still throws the exception.

I have tried all sorts of different things like doReturn("Title").when(mockActivity).getTitle(); and suppress(constructor(Activity.class));

Android :: Error When Starting Activity

Mar 22, 2010

I'm starting an activity when a button is pressed, and normally (in other apps) haven't had an issue. But when I press the button in this app, I get an "unable to marshal value" error.Exact(ish) error from LogCat:
03-22 02:49:02.883:
WARN/System.err(252):
java.lang.RuntimeException: Parcel:
unable to marshal value
{CLASSNAME}@44dcf1b8
I feel that this might be related to the extra that I'm passing to the intent. I'm passing an ArrayList as a serializable to this new intent. My concern is that the data structure that the ArrayList contains isn't being serialized (as it's a personal data structure).Is the array list content data structure causing this? Something else that I'm missing?

Android :: Error When Starting A Tab Activity?

I tried debugging by introducing a breakpoint in the first line of the onCreate method, but the error occurs before the breakpoint is even hit. Any idea of what is going wrong, or any other way I can debug this issue? I am using Eclipse.
