Android :: Possible To Rename Application Icons / Shortcuts?

Nov 23, 2009

Does anyone know if there is a way to rename the icons/shortcuts for apps? Do these icons reside in a folder within root somewhere? I wonder if renaming the icons/shortcuts would allow us to reorganize the way they are sorted in the app tray (since it is alphabetic).

Sprint HTC Hero :: Create Custom Icons For Folders Or Add Shortcuts Into App Organizer Groups

Feb 11, 2010

How to - create custom icons for folders or add shortcuts into App Organizer Groups

I've been playing around with the App Organizer, and been putting things into folders. However, I am trying to do a few things.

Add shortcuts into the groups App Organizer creates, and/or create custom icons for Folders I put on the Home pages.

For example, I have 6 mail accounts (don't ask) and want to put them in a group called mail. Using AppOrganizer, I can only organizer the main mail icon into the group, I want to add the 5 other shortcuts I created for each account. OR I group them into a folder, but I want to change the folder icon to an envelope.

Also, anyone know any good apps that puts email notifications on the top taskbar?

This code throw FileNotFoundException but the documentation said "Open a private file associated with this Context's application package for writing. Creates the file if it doesn't already exist." so the new file should be created on disk.

The problem: When I try to read from the new renamed file I got FileNotFoundException!

This technique works perfectly on the home pages, just not on the application pages.

Android :: How Do I Get Multiple Icons To Launch Different Activities In One Application?

Jul 17, 2010

I have an application with two activities and I'd like to be able to have two icons appear in the launcher, each launching the respective activity within the app.Specifically, I want one icon to launch my main app, and another icon to launch my settings activity. Is this possible? This creates two launcher icons, but they both run my main app instead of the second icon running my settings app. I've tried just having the launcher category but then I don't get an icon so it looks like I need the main action as well.Is this the right approach or should I be declaring two applications in the manifest instead?

Android :: Application Suite With Multiple Launcher Icons

Aug 20, 2010

I have a single Android application that houses a suite of applications. I want each application to install with its own launcher icon, so I have a few activities with the same intent filter. It works just fine if I close out of an application using the back button. Each launcher icon starts a different activity. However, if I simply send the application into the background using the home button and then try to start a different activity, the one I put into the background is brought to the foreground instead of the correct activity starting. Can I make the multiple icons work or do I need to create a central activity as a way to start all the sub-applications?

Android : Need Good Sources For Icons - Artwork Used In Application?

Mar 6, 2010

Has anyone got a good source for icons that can be used in an application?

I'm thinking of things like pushpins, scope sights, house, car, shop, and other small graphics you might overlay on a map or picture.

Most people just rip them off from the web, but I'm looking for an honest source.

A while ago, I found a website marketplace where you could commission stuff from graphic artists. Does anyone have any links for these? The sort of thing I mean is like this: http://www.graphicster.com/Default.aspx (But those guys haven't got critical mass yet). Or these guys http://www.crowdspring.com/how-it-works/ (but they seem a bit high end).

Hello everyone. Is there a feature or a check box that I am missing that allows you to turn off the little text labels beneath the application icons on the home screen? I'm kind of doubtful, but a search did not return an answer. It would certainly clean up the home screen. Plus a lot of labels are "cut off" due to length and that is just annoying.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Move / Delete Application Icons From Home Screens?

Apr 15, 2010

I know how to remove widgets... you long press on them to move them/delete them. My problem is this: I don't know how to remove regular icons on the Hero. On the Moment, everything was simply long press to remove. On this, long pressing the application icons on my home screen(s) just opens the associated programs. I kind of wanted to move them around, I don't wanna have to delete a scene everytime I want to move one icon around.

In short: How do you move/delete application icons from the home screens? (long pressing doesn't work for me)
