Android : Achieve Basic Layout In Droid With Proper Z-ordering Of Views?

Sep 14, 2010

How can I achieve the following layout in Android?

What I would like, is to have the 3 blue boxes top aligned in their view, and then I'd like to have the red box centered underneath the blue boxes, but so that when I animate the red box up, it slides underneath the blue box.

I have tried placing the blue and red boxes in different layouts, but as soon as I animate the red box up, if it goes outside the border of its layout, it disappears (I don't want the red box's layout to clip the red box, I want the red box to slide under the blue box so that the blue box occludes the red box.)

I have also managed to create this layout using a series of nested layouts, but because of the draw order, the red box always appears on top of the blue box. I attempted to use the bringToFront() method, but I found out that this only works on sibling views within the same layout. Unfortunately I can't get this type of layout while keeping all 4 views within the same layout. Any suggestions? (also, if anyone has better suggestions for the title of this question I'm all ears)

Android :: Views And Their Child Views - How To Avoid The Ugly - Boxes - When Child Views In A View Has Another Color Than Background

Jan 6, 2010

I have a simple ListView and on that ListView I have placed a number of custom defined Views. The CustomView has ImageView and two TextViews.

The CustomView also has a "stateful drawable" as background, so that the background image (a 9-patch) changes if you press the Row in the ListView. When pressing the Row, the background image changes to a Red-ish thing.

The problem is that when the background changes from the default greyish, all the Views in the CustomView (ImageView and TextViews) still have their greyish background and thus creates very ugly greay boxes on top of the now redish background.

What is the best way to solve that problem? I hoped that such things were handled automatically (as it is done in for example .NET), but I was wrong it seems.

Android :: How Can Update The All The Views Inside A TabHost When Pressing On A ContextMenu Item From Within One Of The Views

Nov 16, 2010

I am implementing a music player application in Android. My play list selection screen is implemented as a tab selector widget which contains a ListActivity inside each of the tabs: Artist, Albums, Songs.
I want to update the ListView in each of the ListActivity when I delete an item from any of the lists.

i.e. When I long press an item in the Artists list a context menu is drawn with "Delete Artist"
And it should delete all the songs from this artist in the Songs ListView, delete all the albums by this artist in the Albums ListView, and finally delete the entry for the artist in the Artist ListView.

Each of the ListActivity has its own fillData() method, which updates the ListView when the button in the context menu is pressed.

How can I call the fillData() method of the Albums ListActivity after I update the ListView inside of the Artists ListActivity?

Android :: Streaming Video Files Endless Buffering

Dec 14, 2009

I have a problem streaming live video files. When I stream a file say of duration 5 minutes, it stops after streaming 2 to 3 minutes and enters in to endless buffering state. The VideoViews's OnBufferingListener is endlessly executed, however it shows that the buffering is not progressing anymore : MediaPlayer's buffer says it has buffered for example 90% whereas when I call videoView.getBufferPercentage(), I get something very low, like 1% or 5% ... After a while in the buffering state, the application crashes. It seems like the buffering is taking all the memory.

General :: Galaxy S3 / Bootloop / Endless Restart (Android 4.3)

May 25, 2014

My Galaxy S3

GT-I9300
Newest Firmware I9300XXUGNA5 / I9300DBTGNB1 (DBT)
16 GB
NOT rooted / original ROM and absolutely unmodified

is restarting all the time and so caught in a bootloop. Most of the time it restarts when reaching the PIN or Code screen, sometimes I mange to enter the code and can see the desktop for some seconds. Then it restarts, endlessly until I remove the battery. Most of the time it directly restarts in the bootlop when putting in the battery, but sometimes not and this way the recovery and download mode can be accessed.

I need my phone and some data on my phone so urgently (unfortunately some are directly on the phone).

What I tried:

- remove battery for hours
- load battery for a long time (over night)
- recovery mode -> delete cache
- starting with / without SIM
- starting with / without SD card
- managed to activate flight mode within seconds in loop
- used other battery
- flashed original firmware with Odin two times (4.3, I9300XXUGNA5)

But ... It restarts again and again. I really want to avoid a complete reset due to the fact that there is really important data on the phone and in addition some really unique photos. I don't think that there is a hardware defect since the hone sometimes starts untill it reaches the main screen.

Possible reason: I use "HD Widgets" and there are some widgets on the main screen. When I manage to see the main screen for some seconds I can see the widgets loading (emty spaces with progress bar). I use this app fore some time but maybe there was an udate causing problems. Maybe this app or others are the trigger.

Android :: Switching Views With RadioButton And Saving Views In Bundle

Mar 6, 2010

I have the following XML code:.................

The idea is to change the views, whenever I press one of the radio buttons. When I press a button the first time everything works out fine, but the second time I press a button, I get an IllegalStateException, and I can't quite see why I'm getting this.

Also, the Activity seems to set all my global variables to null, which is why I have to create them every time I switch from portrait to landscape or vice versa. So I would like to know if there is a way I can save my views in the Bundle, or any other way in which I can permanently save my views, so I don't have to add or create them every time, I flip the phone. And whenever I flip the phone, it seems that it rereads the main XML file, causing the RadioGroup to be set to 2D even if the 3D button is checked. This is because I've said the 2D button to be checked from when the app is first created, but I would like to also save the state of that RadioGroup.

HTC Incredible :: Endless Reboot Loop - Overheating?

Sep 12, 2010

I have seen some others having this problem, but they talk about it being a glitch associated with tower switching? But I think my endless reboot loop is due to heat. I did not have this problem until 2.2. I can just be surfing the web or running any simple app and the phone gets really hot and bam. reboot...reboot..reboot. Have to pull the battery to stop it.

After reading a few other threads, I did the factory reset nd even completely cleaned my external card. I installed all my apps again. Then I used the web browser for about 5 minutes and ..... reboot loop.

Anyone else having this problem? I guess I am just going to have to go to verizon and get a refurb, but then I might also get an SLCD huh? Am I really going to tell the difference between those two screens? Will verizon only replace my phone with another incredible? I am just sick of this reboot thing and don't know what else to do.

Android :: Do Root Views Of An Activity In Android Have Any Prior Knowledge Of The Child Views That Will Be Loaded Into Them

Jan 25, 2010

Is there any way to query a root view of an activity for all of its child views even before the root view or its children have been inflated? I guess what I'm looking for is whether a view knows ahead of time what children it will have before it gets inflated, and can I get that list in some way. Bizarre I realize, but I think it will help me with some unconventional automation testing I'm working on. I haven't found anything in the API like this.

General :: USB Tethering Creates Endless New Windows Networks

Sep 18, 2012

Whenever I tether my laptop via the USB cable it takes a long time for the laptop to connect and when it does, it says "Connected to Network X", where X is a number. Everytime I reconnect via USB X increases by 1 so the last time I did it I was on Network 43!!!!! I accept that this could be in part a windows thing and not a GS3 thing BUT when I connect via a Wifi Hotspot it connects really really quickly and always says I am connected to AndroidAP. Its as if the USB tethering firmware is

Therefore connecting via hotspot seems much more stable and smooth however I was under the impression that the laptop internet speed will be quicker using USB tether rather than wifi and as I primarilly use my SGS3 as my home broadband connection I want to try and configure it to get the fastest speed on my laptop as possible. If I do an internet speed check on my SGS3 while my laptop is tethered the phone connection is always faster than the doing the same on the laptop. I guess this should be perhaps expected but as much as 4Mbits/s. I.e My phone was getting speeds of 6Mbits/sec but without having any apps open on the phone, my laptop would only get 2Mbits/s?

HTC EVO 4G :: Endless HTC Sense Force Close Loop After Froyo Update

Aug 3, 2010

I did the offical Froyo update on my phone this afternoon. It was stock with the latest OTA update 1.47. Followed the directions for the update and it went by smoothly until after I tried setting up my phone (Google account). I did a hard reset and everything was fine until a few minutes ago. I was able to sign into my Google, Facebook and Aim accounts. It is now back to an endless loop of trying to load Sense and force closing. Of course I can do another hard rest but is it too early to assume the force close loop problem will return? My phone is not functioning and I cannot even go into the setting to turn of Sense.

General :: Endless Download Of Random Photo Despite Hard Reset?

Nov 15, 2012

A friend of mine has a Droid Incredible 2 (ADR 6350). Over the past few days it has been downloading some random photo every 15 minutes, saving a new version in her Gallery each time. She installed anti-virus software and it found nothing, then she uninstalled suspect apps (she doesn't have many on the phone)-- did nothing. Then (and this is the part that really confuses me), she did a factory reset and wiped everything but the SD card. Sure enough, it kept downloading the random photo every 15 minutes once it was setup again (and with no non-core apps re-installed). It is some photo for a flooding house, she has no idea what it is from. A

BTW, it does stop when she puts the phone in airplane mode and kills the data connection.

Android :: Application-wide Resources / How To Achieve?

Sep 17, 2010

So I'm struggling a bit with what is probably a fairly basic concept.. Activity Lifecycle.I have read a bunch of thread on the topic, and I feel I understand well both the functionality, and rationale behind the lifecycle model implemented for Activities, but it raises a bit of a problem for me. My app (game) has a couple of distinct Activities for various sections:

1. The TitleActivity is a very small Activity that just launches a GLSurfaceView and renders a startup logo.I use this to detect the OpenGL capabilities of the device (eg so I know if it's using a software renderer)

2. The LaunchActivity is the main menu screen where the user can access options etc and start a game

3. The GameActivity will either launches a GLSurfaceView or a standard View depending on hardware capabilties.

The issue I am having is that I want to pre-load some "slow-to-load" resources, specifically audio, in the Title Activity so when the Launch Activity renders I can play some background music.I have the concept of a "media library" which I use throughout the game.Because of memory limitations in the SoundPool, I have limited this to only absolute real-time sounds and all others are played using mulitple instances of MediaPlayer.Hence my media library has a bunch of pre-loaded MediaPlayer instances which I access regularly during game play.. so it makes sense to have a centralized access point for all audio. All fine, however the problem is that when I launch one activity from another.. for example the TitleActivity starts the LaunchActivity (via a call to startActivity(Intent...)), the former goes through the onDestroy stage of its lifecycle. Now logically I had assumed that if I allocate a bunch of resources in the onCreate of an Activity, I should clean them up in the onDestroy, however in the case of my "media library" if I load up the audio files in the onCreate of my TitleActivity they will be torn down when the LaunchActivity is started because the TitleActivity will have its onDestroy() method called.

Android :: Achieve Ultra Smooth OpenGL/ES Animation

Feb 1, 2010

I am drawing a pretty simple scene, with one large texture the about size of the screen (two triangles). I notice that the frame-rate is irregular: in most of cases, a frame finishes in 17 ms. However, in about 1 of 10 times, the frame finishes in 33ms.

My guess is probably some background services need to run. However, the Linux scheduler is biased towards my FG app, so the BG services are usually starved, until they can't take it anymore and they grab the CPU from my app ....

I am seeing stuttering in the animation. Is this due to the irregular frame rate? Should I delay each frame so that all frames are rendered with 33ms frame time? If so, what's the best technique of achieving this?

Is there an API that I can call to guarantee CPU resources for the render thread .... I really hope Android runs on some sort of real time kernel ...

When using a mediaplayer to play back an audio file, you can set looping to true - that's not the issue here.

If looping is set to true, there's still an audible gap between the file finishing and then starting again.

How could I achieve true gapless playback? I've attempted using two instances of the same file, overriding oncomplete and onseek.. can't seem to improve the gap though.
