Android :: Moving Icons On Home Screen Or Between Screens?
Dec 28, 2009
is there a way to move the icons without having to remove them and then pick a new place? If not - why with the nice slide functionality, can you not just slide them around on the same screen or the the next?
Has anyone else noticed their icons moving around [by themselves] on the home screen? A couple of days ago, the "Phone" icon suddenly appears on the left-most home screen rather than on the center one. Today, I discovered that I had 2 Gmail icons on my home screen. I thought that it was my imagination, but this has happened a couple of other times.
How do you move an icon in application menu from one screen to another? I know I can rearrange icons by clicking menu button then edit, but I can't move an icon from one screen to another. The same goes in application menu and in home menu.
I cannot see any of my screens. I just see a black screen. The screen has no background but it is black but lit up or active [not black like when it is off though]. No response to hitting any of the 4 buttons[home, menu, return, search]. I only get a response when I hold down the home key. A message pops up saying 'Recent Apps' and 'No recent apps'. I'm wondering if it is trying to respond but bogged down with an app.
This all started after I installed a Koi screen saver. The screen saver works and lets me close the screen saver but goes to a blank screen. Don't see anything. Sound rocker responds, power button works, I even heard mail arriving. Feel pretty dumb.
I am wanting to change the icons for a lot of my apps on my home screens. I have been looking at BetterCut, Apps Organizer, and Folder Organizer. Now Apps Organizer is free and Folder Organizer has a free trial version, but Better cut is not free not does BetterCut have a free trial version.
Please tell me what you like/dislike about the apps, primarily BetterCut and Folder Organizer (paid).
*How do they run?
*Are there any major bugs?
Is it easy to change the icons for apps on my home screens?
*Is BetterCut really worth $2?
*Is Folder Organizer really worth $1.35?
Are any of these going to meet my needs of wanting to change the icons on my home screens?
*Are the icons dependant on the app that changed them (in other words, if I uninstall BetterCut after changing an icon, will the icon still be what I changed it to, or will it go back to the default icon)?
*If you had $2 and could only choose one of these apps to change the icons on your home screen, which would you choose?
I am going to play around with the two free versions of these apps and see if I like them, but unfortunately, BetterCut is an all or nothing app. I just don't want to feel like I wasted any money because the app ended up not doing what I wanted it to do.
I'm a bit into customizing my home screens to make it look like the ones on mycolorscreen.com and in those UCCW threads.
But there is one thing thats bugging me, and that is the use of app icons on the home screen. I dont like it, its too messy and too iOS'ish.
Some are replacing the app icons with other custom icons, or removes them completely, but i rarely see what i've been trying to do; to make custom icons that open a meny of apps (in one genre..)
Like one icon for music apps, and one for travel apps etc.
I have tried to fix this using tasker widgets, like this:
and when i click on the music icon, which is a tasker widget, it opens a tasker scene with a meny of 4 music apps:
This works pretty good, but i would like the tasker widget icons to be just icons, no subtext under the icon. There is no way in tasker to do this i think, i've tried to make a task with no name but it is simply not allowed.
I've also tried to make a uccw widget, but hotspots in uccw can open apps and shortcut, not a many of apps..
i know that i can make the launcher remove text under icons, but this doen not apply to my tasker widgets.
I know how to remove widgets... you long press on them to move them/delete them. My problem is this: I don't know how to remove regular icons on the Hero. On the Moment, everything was simply long press to remove. On this, long pressing the application icons on my home screen(s) just opens the associated programs. I kind of wanted to move them around, I don't wanna have to delete a scene everytime I want to move one icon around.
In short: How do you move/delete application icons from the home screens? (long pressing doesn't work for me)
Two things I'd like to be able to do with my incredible.First is reduce the number of homescreens. Seven is really pointless for me, it makes finding the right screen take a little longer and there's just not enough good quality widgets that I need to use. I could do better with 5 and possibly just 3.Second is that when I'm not on a homescreen and I hit the home button, I'd like it to go back to the LAST homescreen I was on, not the center one. And if I'm already on a homescreen, once again pull up the homescreen select menu, instead of going to the center homescreen. It's a waste of a button press to always go to that center screen when pressing the home button.
Whenever I am using any app and press the home button, the home screen blacks out for a few secs and it takes around 10 sec to get all the icons back and before I can start using my phone again. I am using a non rooted mytouch 3g.
This problem does not happen if I exit an app by pressing the back button. It becomes very annoying at times.
on the droid x, i found this to be VERY simple. press and hold the icon, then once it is unmounted slide to left of right. once the green "highlight" appears on that side, the sscreen moves as well as the icon.i had the original droid and dont think it was this easy, though im not sure i ever tried.
I am working on an application where I wish to have multiple screens (each of full display size) attached to each other horizontally, and switch between them by using the finger (swipe right / swipe left). The home screen does exactly what I want, but its implementation seems to be more complex than I thought. What would be your preferred way to achieve this functionality? Is there any Layout or View that I could reuse? More generally, it should work with the 1.5 SDK, so the gesture interface is not available.
Ok Freaky, I place my phone down on the table within a few min the screens move from one to the other automatically whats up with this.. Its like a ghost here lol, No for real I swing my home pages all the way to the right within a few min they go back to the left strange any ideas people whats causing this..
It's nothing special but I got my 5 Droid X home screens set up, for now, using LauncherPro and figured I'd take capture a few screen shots. I like to keep everything simple and clean with apps put in seperate "sections" without having a bunch of widgets in the way. Feel free to ask any questions and if you want screen caps of certain things let me know.
I just followed the instructions in the stickies root message and boom - I'm rooted. Flashed with Fresh 1.1. Can anyone direct me to somewhere on how to customize the screens? Also, there are a couple of new icons at the top of my home screen - an "E" inside a circle and after a phone call, I get a green circle in the notification bar.
I just ordered this phone from Verizon. I will get it in a few days. I must admit I dont know much about it and the features. I currently have the blackberry curve which was hard enough to figure out.
Can themes to this phone is one main question. I love the themes I can use for my current BB. Can I add other icons to my desktop or home screen that I choose like yahoo mail and myspace like on my BB?
Are there any good apps to help manage my home screen icons better? I'm loking for something that will allow me to add more to the screen or maybe organize them somehow. I am non rooted, running Sense UI. I already have "Folder Organizer" and I'm gonna see if Launcher Pro might offer anything.
On my home screen (HTC Magic) i have icons at the bottom and then i have the extended desktop left and right. The analogue clock is on the right hand screen.Does anyone know how to get the clock onto the main home screen?
Is there a guide to identifying the icons at the top of the home screen, or a way to determine what they are? Some are obvious, but some are not. For instance, in the image below, I know the BlueTooth icon, but what is the one at top left?
I have a unique idea for mobile themes.I'm working with an app coder who knows nothing about design.I'm creating the themes.I would like to do actual themes and not just wallpapers.Do I simply create like a home screen with icons? Or does the icons have to be added when coding?
I'll give an example.Does the phone icon need some type of code behind it to tell it what to do or is it simply just an image?I only know about design and a little html.zo don't know anything about app coding.
So I have LauncherPro and it is working spectacularly, but I have one question. I really liked how when moving to other screens, the dX displayed the buttons to quickly jump to each screen or the home screen. Is there a way to do something like this on launcherpro, or do I have to hit the home button where it shows all the screens small and I can select one.
