Android :: Moving From IPhone

Mar 17, 2010

Apologies if this has already been discussed and not wanting to start any sort of flame wars.Has anyone else moved to Android from iPhone? If so what where the main reasons.I am patiently waiting for the HTC Desire to land in the UK to upgrade, my main reasons for doing so are:Dislike of Apple's recent activities, the seeming arrogance they have in thinking they are the only company that should be able to provide a touch screen smart phone.Getting away from the walled garden of iTunes and iPhone. I want to be able to use my phone however I like and not how Jobs and co tell me.Being able to change base functionality how I like. Prime example being podcasts.I regularly download 3-4 a week and hate having to either connect to iTunes or manually check every time for all my podcasts.There isn't an app for that, Getting the latest hardware that I want and being able to chose the features that are important to me. Do I want a keyboard, a better camera, a removable battery.

HTC Desire :: Moving Back To IPhone

Aug 15, 2010

I had my HTC desire for a month, but I'm sorry to say that I will go back to iPhone. Don't get me wrong, the device is amazing, super smooth and fast, good camera, internet loads faster than my old 3GS and open apps in matter of seconds. Most importantly, it offers me endless possiblity of customization.Even having all that great features, there is something that lacks, and it makes me regret of my purchase sometimes. I tried to make it work, I tried to adapt and change my preferences, but I can't do that anymore.Today I was in the market because I just got bored of the only 5 good games for android. So I entered looking for soiemthing new. Seeing apps like "shinobi barrage" and "ghost chaser" being 4 stars and topping the games list, it made me sad. Games like those only get 2 stars in apple market. And I don't like having such a powerfull device just to play a game with 10 years old graphics. Then I encountered with the nazi theme and ringtone apps.

Motorola Droid 2 :: Moving To D2 From An Iphone 3G

Oct 31, 2010

First time poster here. I'm finally nearing end of my dreaded At&t contract and want to get a Verizon phone asap. My iphone 3G has been great in some ways like ease of use and compatibility with lots of features I like, but it's so slow to use that I find myself wanting to throw it on the floor almost every time I use it. Keyboard lag, crashing apps, apps not working, and poor reception really make this device poor big time. So I'm interested in mainly the Droid 2 Global, but I'll also look at the droid incredible and Palm Pre 2. I know the droid 2 global isn't out yet, but it looks to be similar enough to the D2.

1. With the D2, can you remove the memory card and still use all functionality of the phone.

2. How much of the 8 GB memory can be used to store apps, music, photos, email etc? Is it similar to the iphone storage where there are no limits to the number of apps and app size?

3. Is there a podcast store like iTunes where you can download ESPN podcasts?

4. Can you disable flash content in the browser?

5. Is there a home button to wake the phone up from sleep mode besides the power button on the top?

6. Does the phone come installed with junk/useless apps (stuff like nascar...)

7. Does the on screen or slide out keyboard lagg in apps like the iphone keyboard does?

8. Is exchange email supported?

9. How do I get the contacts from my PC onto the D2? (I don't want my gmail or facebook contacts).

10. Is there a facebook app (not a widget) so that facebook updates don't constantly load in the background?

11. Can you make/download your own ringtones and sms tones?

12. Does the D2 feel thick in your pocket?

13. can the D2 be used easily with one hand?

General :: Moving From IPhone 4S To Nexus 5

I get my first android phone, Nexus 5, tomorrow.

1) I have iPhone data plan through ATT. Is ATT going to make a big deal about me no longer on an iPhone? The plan allows me to tether so would like to keep it if I can.

2) Is there a tool that would allow me to transfer contacts, calendar, pictures and music to N5?

Motorola Droid X :: Iphone 3gs User Moving To Droid X

Jul 15, 2010

I have been an Iphone user since Gen1, and have just come out of contract under AT&T.While I like the Iphone 4, with the unfortunate AT&T service (or lack thereof) that comes with the phone, it's just not an option anymore. In my area edge is the only available service, and even that has drop outs frequently. Then about 4 months ago, the WIFI quit on my phone, which made the AT&T service problems MUCH worse, or apparently so than they were before.I have had more bad calls, and dropped calls and lack of data availability than I can shake a stick at.I mostly use the phone for browsing and video/Podcast playback, but I use it A LOT.I love Itunes, and have a bunch of podcasts, including video ones that I listen to quite a bit.So I hope I can sync them still.

General :: Group Texts With IPhone And Non-iPhone Users?

Oct 30, 2013

When a group message is sent between my co-workers, who are all iphone users, and myself (Note 3), one person in the exchange does not receive the text. This is not the common iMessage issue that was plaguing me when I made the switch from Apple to Android. This is specifically affecting one iphone user. When I send her a text individually it is not a problem. The other iPhone users don't have a problem receiving or sending to me.

Android :: Send Simple Data From An IPhone To Another IPhone Or Android?

Nov 11, 2010

I'm just getting started with mobile development, and after considerable searching I'm still confused about sending a message from my iPhone to another or an Android.For instance, in building a simple Tic-Tac-Toe game, if I want to notify the other phone of a move, what is the best way to do so? Wifi, bluetooth, 3G? And how? Many methods seem to point to communicating through a web server, but I'd rather send them directly from phone to phone if possible.

Android :: Moving App To SD Card

Aug 17, 2010

As stated here: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/07/apps-on-sd-card-detail... , even if an app is installable on the SD card, the private data files remain on the phone...

If this is true, my question is: are users aware of this? This would mean that moving/installing on the SD card means only the app installation is mobile, and not the database, for example. Do you know more about actual use cases for this 'moving to SD card' feature?

I'm trying to figure this out because more and more users are asking me to allow it to be movable to the SD, but i don't want to create false expectations (e.g. user changes phone, keeps SD card, but loses his 'stuff');

Android :: Moving From WM Phone To DroidX

Jul 24, 2010

I currently have a Windows Mobile phone in which I am heavily dependent on an application call Pocket Informant from a company called WebIS. It is a feature packed program that handles my Calendar/Contact/ToDo List. I find it much better than the built in Windows Mobile solution. Currently WebIS is developing a version of Pocket Informant for the Android OS. I am hoping that it will be out in August or September. In the mean time, I have purchased a DroidX and want to transfer all of my contacts, Calendar entries and Task (ToDos) over the DroidX. Can anyone offer help on the best way to do this? I would also be willing to purchased a third party app if it would make it easy and painless. I saw a program called Android Touchdown by Nitrodesk, but I am not sure that this would do want I need.

General :: Moving From WebOS To Android?

May 6, 2010

I'm new here! I've benne a palm Pre user for months (I still own it) but the experience was not painless, mainly due to the fact that the product is not supported in my country (Italy) and thus I have non access to paid Apps...

But then, my wife gave me a really nice gift: a brand new HTC Desire!

I've used it for a week now, and I'm totally sold to it.

Now, the problem is: I'd like to migrate all my personal data from my Pre to the Desire.

I had no problem with contacts and calendar (Google!) but I have no clue on how to transfer the rest of my stuff, and if it's possible or not.

I'm referring to:

* old SMS
* Memos
* Tasks

General :: Moving Back From IOS To Android

Oct 13, 2012

I have an iphone4s and I'm quite happy with it, except for the fact that I hate Apple. So I want to move back to Android. Things that I like about the iphone is the mail app and. mostly, battery life (battery consumption when screen is locked is superb, and that is the phone status usually). I'm not going to use the phone for games, but for calls, whatsapp, twitter, g+, music (lots of music playing), some video and gps navigation. I would like to ask people for recommendations on a good terminal based on (most important to less important):

1.- Battery life (I give importance to battery life when idle)
2.- Fast processor
3.- Fast charging
4.- Support for external storage (microSD)
5.- Cyanogenmod compatible
6.- If possible, the terminal sould allow me to replace the battery

Do not comment on things like switch off wifi when not browsing the web, or switch to 2G when not using 3G to improve battery life. I do not do that now and I have power for 36 straight hours with my iphone. I'm not looking for workarounds for bad battery life. I'm trying to have the same battery performance I have on my iphone on a phone with Android without switching things on and off.

Yesterday (the day I got it) was perhaps the single worst performance I've ever had at work for a single day.I am in THAT much in love.But there's one persistent problem.When I bought the phone at a corporate store, the CSR tried 5 times to sync my contacts from my old samsung omnia.Every time, the incredible said that the sync was successful but the contacts never showed up.My only recourse is to manually reprogram all my contacts.I'm in the "b"s now and I have work at 6 AM.I know I can sync my winmo contacts to gmail, but I don't use gmail primarily and would like my phone contacts to stay phone contacts.

Android :: Moving Focus To Top Of Activity - Scrolling

Aug 26, 2009

I have an activity that begins with almost a page of text, then has a few form controls. When the activity launches, the first form control takes focus and the screen scrolls down to make it fully visible. When this happens, the text at the top is off the top edge of the screen. When the screen comes into view, I want the text at the top to be visible. So, onCreate, I tried sending a message to the Activity's overridden handler to do the following:

ScrollView main = (ScrollView) findViewById(R.id.main);
main.pageScroll(ScrollView.FOCUS_UP);
This did nothing. I then tried:
main.scrollTo(0,0); This also did nothing.
I then tried sending the message from onResume instead of onCreate. This also did nothing. How to force the scrollview to actually scroll?
