Does such a thing exist? I have searched the marketplace and have come up with a bunch of stuff, but what is junk and what is good? I want one for a trip I am taking. Needs to be a local app that doesn't need network access to look up the words.

I have downloaded a few applications via the Market and the least I can say is that their French is not the native language of the developers. Most of it even looks like automatic google translate.
Would it be possible to keep the phone in French and have some applications into English? This would make their usage much easier.
Does anyone know of an app or a way to add French to the Android dictionary so that I can text in French without it always trying to correct it in English? I want English as the base language just want to add French in as well without having to go into the dictionary and add French words like crazy I did find an app called "Slide it" that appears to offer something that will do this but just wanted to ask the experts first....plus it's not free so I hate to purchase this if it won't do what I need

View 2 Replies View RelatedI agree about the lack of technical knowledge within Orange; I live in France and have just ordered an HTC Hero. My last HTC (Touch) came with French version of WM. This was understandable and I was happy to use it like that (I had no choice actually) but, when asking about whether I would be able to change the language of Android on the Hero, no one at France Telecoms (they are in the technical side of the bed with Orange France) knew. I will be getting the 'phone in a couple of days and, unless I can change the language, I will be returning it tout de suite.

So now, I can't use auto-correct since I want a Qwerty keyboard and it's only when I set it to be in English that I can have it.

I have downloaded and installed the latest software containing danish language but it doesn't work. Support says they cant help but that there is a way around the problem. So! Is Android Speech recognition only available for english? I tryed to set EXTRA_LANGUAGE in the RecognizerIntent but it doesn't work. EXTRA_LANGUAGE - Optional language override to inform the recognizer that it should expect speech in a language different than the one set in the getDefault(). Do you know anything about this?

Inside the emulator, in Settings > Locale & Text > Select Locale, I can choose English or French. This updates the language of my application.
However, when I use the Android Dev Phone 1, only English is available in the "Select Locale" screen...
Is it possible to install french locale on Android Dev Phone 1 ? If so, how can I do this ?
I can't use Emoji on my SGS! I have installed the add-on dictionary Emoji for English words but refresh it and it disappears. I'm using the default AOSP keyboard on CM10.1 on English (UK).

One thing that is annoying is that the emulator always start with Japanese settings. I have found out how to fix this by going into settings and remove all the Japanese stuff, but this is time consuming since I have to do it every time I start the emulator.
Can someone help me change the startup settings for the emulator?

Just wanted to double check with pro's here to make sure that adding a font set is not possible unless one has root access. I need to add non-English font support to Browser and email client to be able to read other languages.

I now can't change it back as i don't know what it says. Can somebody please talk me through it step by step? I can get onto the settings page but need guidance i.e 2nd option down then 3rd down etc.

For some reason, using the regular browser, I can't get google.com to open up in English. I think it's opening in French.
Google appears to know that I'm located in Kansas. I believe I've tried about everything I can think of with regard to browser settings, google's settings... tried to clear all the history, cookies, cache... performed "reset to default"... every time I go to Google it comes up in French. There's a link, of course, to get it in English. But it's infuriating that it won't just come up in English.
Anybody had something like this? Alternatively, anybody have thoughts on why it might be happening?
I've not installed many apps. Skreebl, Handcent, a date widget and a battery widget are all I've got going right now. I'm thinking that a complete "Factory data reset" is in order, but I'd hate to lose the stuff on my SD card (mp3s, wallpapers). I have not researched - those things may not be affected by a Factory data reset.
Except, of course, for one small detail.I'm bilingual,and a lover of Latina women (more info than you needed to know, I know!), so I am constantly switching back and forth between sending texts in English and in Spanish.Is there a way for my phone to recognize words in both English and Spanish?As it stands now, I'm having a hell of a time sending Spanish texts because it keeps suggesting words in English.
