HTC Incredible : How To Make Fast Internet Connection?
Granted I am in the middle of my office building, so I only get 1 bar. But from speedtest.net my Droid Incredible only had a download speed of 0.32 Mbps and and an upload speed of 0.13 Mbps (Ping was 410ms). This is just awful, granted it is only 3g. I am interested to see what other people get. Oh, and please don't post speed tests if you are on Wifi, I am only interested in the mobile broadband connection.

LG Ally :: Tethering Options - Having No Internet Connection
I just got an Ally and so far am happy with it. I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.

Motorola Droid :: WiFi Tethering / No Steady Internet Connection
I've had WiFi tethering for awhile now, but I have never got it to work properly. The problem is that I will have, say, my laptop, or any device for that matter, connected to my Droid and I am able to maintain a steady internet connection for about a minute. After that, the tethering application reports a download speed of 0.0kbps. If I disconnect my laptop (or other device) and reconnect it, it'll start to work again, but only for about another minute. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Samsung Moment :: Keep Losing Mobile Internet Connection While Tethering
anyone else having this problem? using 2.1 under caulkin's kernel. it seems like I can kind of overload the phone doing too much and the mobile network connection on my phone will disappear completely. this is while downloading something that may download too fast, sometimes it happens loading .GIF images too. I'll have to restart the phone to get the internet back. this happens no matter if I'm using wireless, USB or bluetooth tethering.

Samsung Vibrant :: USB Connection Drains Battery Fast
I got my Samsung Vibrant yesterday and like it a lot. However, I have what I thought was a faulty battery problem. The battery would not charge when hooking it up via USB to my desktop or AC.I took the phone to the Tmobile store and they swapped out the battery for me. The battery runs fine unplugged but as soon as I plug in the USB adaptor it starts losing a % of charge every 10 secs. As soon as I unplug it the draining stops. I called the Tmobile store again and they said it may be the USB adaptor. Well, I have a spare cable. I used it and the same thing happens. Is there something wrong with my phone? Is there a setting I need to adjust? Anyone experienced this yet?

HTC Incredible :: Extremely Fast Battery Drain While Browsing Internet / Is This Normal?
Has anyone noticed extremely fast battery drain while browsing the internet? I can use Facebook, play games, look at wikidroid, etc. and battery life seems "normal" but while using the browser it will use 10 percent in 10 minutes. I have timed it, I was at 60 percent, browsed the forums here for 10 minutes and was at 51 percent afterwards. Is this normal? I am rooted and have 2.2, I have tried the stock browser and Dolphin HD and both do the same thing.

HTC Desire :: Lost My USB Options - Tethering / Way To Adding Connection
I've just noticed that I no longer get a notification of "Charge Only" in the top bar when I plug my HTC in to my PC via the USB cable! I've gone into the settings for "Connect to PC" and it doesn't matter what I select, I still cant connect to use "HTC Sync" or "Disk drive" and yet the orange light comes on and the battery indicator says it IS charging! I used to have it set to charge only and if I wanted to sync or copy to the SD card, I'd just drag down the top bar that lists widget locker and my mobile internet usage and I could select it and choose what I wanted to do - only now there is nothing there to select! I've today replaced the trial power widget with the "Widgetsoid switcher" - could that have something to do with it? - I've tried adding USB connection and USB tethering and they dont seem to work either!

HTC Hero :: Internet Sharing/tethering Problem With 2.1
I've recently updated my Hero to 2.1 & am now unable to tether it to my laptop. It worked when I had the old firmware on the phone. I've installed the new version of HTC Sync but whenever I try to connect via the phone (after selecting internet sharing on the phone) it connects to "a network" but then the next link in the chain, a connection to the internet has a red cross through it. When I ask Windows to diagnose the fault I get the error message "DNS server isn't responding". I'm on Windows 7 64bit if that makes a difference.

HTC Desire :: Internet Tethering / Orange Mobile
I have a Compaq laptop running windows 7 and a Desire that I want to tether (via USB).HTC sync (latest version) is installed, and I have checked with Orange who tell me my package allows this, but they don't support Android phones.I have set the phone to Internet Sharing and its all enabled. The internet works fine on the phone. The laptop recognises the phone and gives it network adaptor status, but not a lot else. I've tried to set it as a home, work or public network, but it never gets internet access. I've switched off my firewall (Dit Defender) which made no difference. The troubleshooter eventually states "The DNS server is not responding".I can't find anything on the forums, so any tips or things I'm missing?

HTC Droid Eris :: WiFi Tethering Kills Connection Constantly
I have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering. It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.

Motorola Droid :: Tethering - How Internet Usage Actually Measured?
B4 I buy PdaNet for tethering my new DROID, I really need to know how Internet usage is measured, so I don't get hit with a huge data overage bill. Specifically, how much is being used by Skype w/video. Also, what about using the legal poker sites, e.g. Pokerstars, U.B., Fulltilt, etc. As far as bandwidth/downloading, is safe to tether to all these sites, or is there cause for concern re: going over 5GB per month. On MyVerizon, they tell you what your up to date cell minutes for your monthly cycle are, but I don't see that for the Internet; how do you know where you stand?

HTC EVO 4G :: Internet Sharing Tethering Dilemma / Found Work Around Finally
i'm here at work and have been trying for the last hour to get my phone to work as a modem. I got the same error message over and over again after connecting it to my computer "Error Code 67, your PCS Vision username and password may be incorrect." I installed HTC Sync, and it still doesn't work. So, assuming to myself that tethering for just one computer would be free, I call up Sprint tech support to find out what the problem is. First person didn't know what I was talking about so I was transferred to a really nice lady who helped me reprogram the phone but that didn't work so she sent me to another woman from tech support who had me go into System Updates and select Update Profile. I did that twice while talking to her and nothing fixed the problem.I kept getting error 67.So then, I get transferred to "Advanced" tech support and I talk to a really cool guy who goes out of his way to find a loop hole, but no success. So, he explains to me that after looking at it that they don't offer the "phone as modem" option anymore to my account type, and even then it would be $15 a month to just tether one phone. He said he could add the wifi hotspot option but I told him I don't want to pay $30/month for something I only use on Saturdays and when I travel. So after a hour on the phone, I got nowhere... but then I went onto the App Store and found Easy Tether-Lite and after 5 minutes I am sitting here writing this thread. (The full version said it supports https but idk what that means and I can surf the web now). I only have one concern now though.I'm really happy this works but i'm scared now because this App was too easy to setup. I feel like I may be charged up the ass by Sprint somehow by finding this loophole or I may get penalized. My family and I are on the Everything Data where all data is unlimited so I don't think I should have a problem but after paying $30 extra a month for data with AT&T and finding this work around i'm getting paranoid that i'm going to get a bill at the end of the month charging me for tethering. So I guess i'll see what happens, but i'm glad for now.

Android :: Internet Connection Bug Or Error?
In my application I must use the internet connection ,so I check it first before I open an URL connection using this :- public boolean IsConnectedToNetwork(ConnectivityManager conManager) { NetworkInfo allNetworkInfo = conManager.getActiveNetworkInfo(); NetworkInfo currNetworkInfo; boolean anythingConnected = false; for (int i = 0; i < allNetworkInfo.length; i++) { currNetworkInfo = allNetworkInfo[i]; if (currNetworkInfo.getState() == NetworkInfo.State.CONNECTED) { anythingConnected=true; } } return anythingConnected; } However this code runs well when I connected to either the operator internet Or to a Wi-fi network. But when I'm connected to the operator but without credit and no internet the mobile also sees it as there's internet,or even connected to a Wi-fi network but without internet gateway it also sees as if it's connected to the internet.

Android :: Internet Connection Priority
I am a newbie to Android so please excuse me if this is a silly question or one that has been answered many times before. When connecting to and using the Internet, I am trying to find out what determines the connection that the phone will use when more than one connection is available: Wifi, 3G etc. Is there a standard priority order for connection and use? can the user set the priority order? Usually I would expect the wifi connection to be preferred for reasons of speed and cost. I have looked at my phone user guide and the official Android user guide but cannot find any information about this.

Android :: Internet Connection - Tether
I recently moved to an area that has limited internet choices which in turn makes for higher internet prices and longer contracts. A friend suggested a droid and tethering it using pdanet to my Mac. I use my internet primarily for browsing, sometimes I'd like to watch hulu or small pdf files through e-mail. Would this be a good option to consider or should I go with an internet connection? If I choose a droid, which one is the best one for tethering? I'm somewhat drawn to the ones with touch screens and no keyboards....but will listen to your reviews. Supposedly verizon has a bandwidth limit of 5gb. Anyone know if that is monthly? How much is 5gb? Am I going to find myself a month out hating that I made the choice to rely on a droid for my primary internet source? Is there anything else I need to know about tethering a droid to my mac? Are there restrictions for OS X? Is there anything else I should know so I don't get the phone and hate myself later?

Android :: Best Way To Determine If There Is Internet Connection Is Available
i have this android application that requires to load data from a remote server via the internet. this update-functionaliy obviously requires the device to not only be connected to some kind of network, but also to the internet.so: is want to schedule the update-service to some date and when it starts, it should determine whether it actually CAN reach the target server or not. therefore, a simple "is the device connected to wifi?" does not suffice, as the device may be connected to a wireless network that does not offer internet access. something like a PING is required.whats the easiest / best way to determine, if there is an internet connection is available i.e. server is reachable?

Android :: Confirmation Of Carrier APN Internet Connection?
I have just got my Motorola Milestone ready and working. I have set up the Internet carrier APNs (HSDPA, EDGE, 3G etc) and I wonder if it is possible that Android asks me for confirmation when connecting to one? I don't like the idea of changing the APN name to cheat/workaround it (to make it impossible to connect by setting up non-existing APN), I like to see what connection possibilities are around me. When I'm at home I have a WiFi and also would like to be sure the whole transfer is being done by WiFi, not EDGE. With each connection request confirmation I'd be sure I have it under control.

Android :: Best Approach For Requesting Data (internet Connection)
I have an app in which there are several requests to a server in internet (http), for example to retrieve images in threads outside the main UI process. The thing is that I have a Thread that manage the request with a while(!end) loop and in the end a Thread.sleep(500) that checks if there are new unhandled requests. As I read here [1] I know that this is not a good practice. And users have complain about ANR (app not responding) in several cases. Knowing that obviously I want to refactor all the way my app manage the requests and I want to do that the best way. So, the question is; what is the best approach for doing this? A service? a broadcast receiver and send intents when I need a request to be handled?

HTC Desire :: No Internet Connection Threads?

I'm going on a week's holiday soon and I wanted to see if my Irish sim would work in my phone because the data roaming rates with Sunrise are extortionate (13.90 Swiss francs per megabyte!). Lo and behold, I put the card in and it works no problem! I rang my wife's phone just to check. There was an alert that came up, asking me to select my home network and I chose o2.ie and I think this may be where things went wrong. HTC Hero :: Internet Connection On PC Through Phone?
Being impressed by what I saw and read about Hero, I'm considering getting one. What usually isn't part of the reviews is, how the sync application(s) work together with the phone. I see there's a decent solution for syncing with Outlook through HTC sync.It makes me wonder if there's also a possibility to share the internet connection on PC with HTC sync or any other app? I mean, to use the phone as a 3G modem when connected to PC?This feature would help a lot.since I don't have a separate mobile net stick on my laptop, but used my phone so far to have internet access on the go. With Windows Mobile phone and ActiveSync it was quite buggy but possible, with my current Nokia phone and the Nokia Software it's just two clicks after I connect the phone to the PC.I wonder if there's a similar solution supported for Android?
