I let Google Now set itself up on my S3 about 2-3 months ago. I thought it was kinda cool but I didn't feel like messing with it too much at the time. I did, however, see the "Search, or say Google" feature. I spoke the word "Google" and sure enough it activated, and I spoke the generic, "Where is the nearest restaurant?" just to see how it worked, and several restaurants were shown. Pretty cool, but like I said, I wasn't in the mood to dig into it much deeper at that time.
Fast forward to last night. I had some time on my hands and thought I would mess with this "Google Now" thing I've been reading about more and more. I add the Google Now widget to one of my pages easily enough. Then I tap it to get it started, and I see the familiar, "Search, or say Google" and I'm ready to play. "Google", I say. Nothing. I repeat it... "Google". Still nothing. I tap the microphone, and the screen changes to the Google logo in the upper left, a flashing red microphone in the upper right, and the words "Speak now" show up in the middle of the screen. Again, I do the "Where is the nearest restaurant?", just like I did before, and I wait for its response. The text from my question shows up on screen, but the mic in the upper right is still pulsing. I wait for about 30 seconds and finally tap the mic icon, thinking that will activate the question. No... it just goes back to the previous screen. I try this several times with different questions, each getting a bit more prophanity-laced as I'm losing patience. Finally I give up.
Then I see if my wife has Google Now activated on her Note 2. She doesn't, so I grab the widget and throw it on an empty screen. I tap the widget and Google Now starts. I see the "Search, or say Google", so I sternly say, "Google". It activates, I ask for the nearest restaurants, and it shows me several in the area. Why won't it work on my S3 anymore? I check the settings for voice and see Hotword detection is checked. I compare my settings to the settings on my wife's Note 2 and they're identical.
my galaxy s3 , i first installed free turkish and russian keyboards but i didnt see how to switch to that then i installed swiftkey keyboard for $3.99 from google play store and still didnt see any difference on my keyboard. how can i activate these keyboards and switch back to english when i want?
I cannot seem to find an app that allows the moment to use the LED flash as a flashlight. I noticed that there is one that works for the droid, but when I search for it on the market with my phone I cannot find it.. or any other app that will do it.
First, is there a good reason the captivate does not have a camera flash (aside from the devs thinking the night mode worked 'well enough')? If not: I strongly suggest we get a huge number of people to say they would be interested in buying a flashlight/camera flash add-on for the phone were someone to develop one. After we get a big enough number, we'll kindly forward it to several companies. I took my phone out last night for halloween, and was quite disappointed with the night quality. I'm sure something like this would be profitable at ~$6, but I would pay $10-15 to cover research costs/etc.
There is an app in the market which is written just for the Moment that uses the camera flash as a flashlight -- essentially it turns on the camera flash. The application says not to use the flash "too long" or damage may occur, but the "too long" time period is not defined. First, will having the flash on for an period of time damage it? Second, if so, any idea what maximum period of time would be "safe?"
if I factory reset, will I need to re-activate the phone? ande how do I do that if I need to? I don't remember the codes that it wanted. asking cause somewho thed phone wont stay on one screen vfo more than a second

I have configured my Samsung Galaxy S using my normal Gmail account. This has helped me to sync the Google Contacts with my phone.
Following are my questions:
1. Right now I have about a thousand google contacts synced to my phone. I want to remove them at one go. I know how to disable them from being appearing in contact list, but I want to know if I can delete them without going to factory settings.
2. I am using three applications (a) Gmail (b) Contacts (3) MVOIP. I want to know if there is a way that following combination works: a- Google contacts appear on Gmail app b- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "Contacts" c- Google contacts (with phone numbers) and normal phone contacts appear on "MVOIP application".
I know how to do
(a) - By synchronising google contacts, (b) - by choosing display options (c) - I do not know how to handle this and I want help.
I am really digging it. I turned it on last night and expected it to just make the screen brighter so I could see my door lock and my keys. I was pleasantly surprised to find an actual flashlight on my phone. I was very surprised and impressed both.
When connecting my Galaxy-S to the Samsung Kies software, my telephone shows up with an incorrect telephone number. I did change the sim-card (and subsequent number) since first using it, but I never logged intio Kies with the old sim-card.The phone is rooted. How do I get Kies (or my Samsung phone) to show my current telephone number? In the phone properties (Menu, Settings, About, Status) the same wrong number is shown. When calling, the receiver sees the correct telephone number. So the issue is not operator related but telephone related.
I was originally going to get either the HTC Hero or Motorola Droid but found out they are both CMDA. and the Milestone is out of my budget. People have been suggesting to get the Samsung Galaxy S, that's also out of my budget and looks too much like an iPhone. So i stumbled upon these two phones.I'm leaning more towards the Spica because it has superior battery life, and 800mhz compared to the 528mhz the i7500 has. and it can also play DivX.What's making it a difficult decision is the i7500 has an AMOLED Screen. It can display 16,777,216 Colors while the Spica can only display 65,536 Colors I'm not too sure if that will make a difference. Also it has 5mp w/LED Flash while Spica is only 3.2.One phone has a little of both. This will be my first Android phone I'm coming from a Sony Ericsson W995.
When I do some research on the Android SDK website, I know that I have to grant the permission "FLASHLIGHT" in order to use the light. However, I cannot find in the API any methods to control the flash light. But I believe there is a way because I can see so many apps doing this in the Android Market. How can I do so?
So I decided to turn auto brightness on so I can see the screen when I'm outside, but I notice that when I'm in the dark the screen is so dim that the flashlight doesn't work anymore. I searched for a new one with a function to override brightness control but I don't think there is one. Anyone know of one that I may have missed?
Samsung should stop promoting the Galaxy Tab and fix the Galaxy S phones.Tab is running 2.2 and most likely has a fixed GPS.While the rest of us who paid for a product still have not gotten our money's worth.
