How can I find the IP address of the an HTC incredible connected to Verizon's network? My other question - do I have to make any changes to my App to run it on a cellular network? Till now the App was running on a Nexus One connected to a local Wi-Fi network.
A long long time ago, like 2.5 yrs ago when I was using a Treo, there was a great app called Directory Assistant (DA for those ex treo users).
It was a dedicated white pages, and very fast.
What everybody has been telling me on my droid is just to type the name into the search bar up top. That then brings up a browser with google's results. So when I went to look for 'joe blow' 'anycity' yesterday it brought up a link for his facebook, linkedin, research paper he wrote, etc.., everything but his phone number.
What is the best way to find someones phone number or address if you know their name and state with Android on the droid?
Is there a way to find the IP address of the desktop machine connected the android phone after USB tethering is turned on? Does android assign a fixed IP address to the desktop? Or does it assign a dynamic address (dhcp)? Is there a PPP connection created between the phone and machine?
My Incredible is still on the charger and will be for a few hours. Since I can't poke around in the settings yet, is there a way to find your MAC address? My WAP is setup with MAC filtering, so I will need to know it for wi-fi to work properly.
Is it possible to determine the unique bluetooth MAC address for an iPhone and an Android (and to a lesser extent, other smartphones) from within an app on said device? Is my assumption that the MAC address is universally unique correct? A general yes or no would be helpful. Example code in the case of an iPhone or an Android would be extremely helpful.
I searched through another thread and it wasn't specified, but I have the Droid2 and want to connect to the home wifi router, but don't know my phone's MAC address as this is the setting of the router to make it more efficient for gaming.
I have already gone to the settings page under wifi and 'advanced' but it has a MAC ADDRESS listing, but won't let me select it saying it is unavailable.
1. How can I enable and find out my MAC Address 2. While I'm at it although I have not been on the forums in a few weeks and admit this is a lazy ploy at help, has a one click or 'user-friendly' root come for Droid2 that doesn't require me to read pages of a thread and go through 100 steps!?
1. When I turn on my phone, the boot up with the Droid mascot and the HTC logo is extremely loud. Is there any way I can lower the volume on this? Does the Media volume control this?
2. Is there any way I can find out the ip address my phone is using when it is connected via wi-fi? I know you can set-up a static IP, but I'm just trying to see what my ip address is without using a static one.
It seems the java.net.NetworkInterface implementation of android does not have a byte getHardwareAddress() method http://developer.android.com/reference/java/net/NetworkInterface.html
I've found several forums of people trying to do this with no definitive answer, I need to get a somewhat cross-device UUID, so I can't rely on phone numbers or in ANDROID_ID (which can be overwritten and which I think depends on the user having a google account http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.Secure.html#ANDROID_ID
In linux you can use ifconfig or read from /proc/net/arp and you can easily get the Hardware address.
Is there a file in android that I can read?
There has to be a way to get this address since it's shown in the "Settings > About Phone > Status" of the phone.
I've a snazzy bluetooth thang in my car. On my old phone (TyTN II) and work phone (Nokia somethingorother), when you pair the phone, it uploads the phonebook so that it's browseable from the car kit.On the Sammy, all I see is a list of phone numbers, no names. Which is less than useful.
I have a single user access to a Wifi device on my macbook. I'd like to use my HTC evo and sisters iPhone on the Wifi also. Is there any way I can broadcast the wifi from one of my devices. I know if I had my laptop hardwired I could share the Wifi, but I've not found anything to do Wifi to Wifi. or Wifi to Bluetooth. Any know, I don't have data plans on the cell phones as I am out of town.

When I try to connect my Eris to my wifi network, it always says Unsuccessful when trying to obtain an ip address. But if I enable to to use a static ip, it connects fine. Its annoying for me though, because if I'm out and want to connect to a different wifi, I have to disable the static ip. I'd like to get it so I don't have to use a static ip address at my house. Any ideas?
Does anyone know what ip address it tries to obtain when static isn't on? The two computers on my network are using .100 and .104. I figured that my phone would pick one not in use, but maybe it's set on trying to get one of those?
Well i have bought 2 month ago new, sim free Legend. After that i had like 2 firmware updates, and well after the second one i cant get wifi working. Its like "unable to start wifi" and after that i cant switch this process off, it shows "unable to turn wifi off". So to get rid of this i need to restart phone. So now i cant use wifi. I cant even turn off wifi notification, i don't see MAC address etc. Are there ways to fix that?
my IPv4 is unavailable when i connect to wifi network.but i can connect to the internet via mobile data.BUT, when i restart my phone with wifi turned on and a wifi network which it can connect, IPv4 will be detected, but my mobile data will suffer because all of my APN's will disappear, but when i restart my phone w/ Wifi off, APN's will be restored.

Using a Linksys wireless router with a WEP encryption at home. Every time I try to connect my phone says "Obtaining IP Address" and then after a short time it fails.
-Yes, my phone recognizes the router. -Yes, I have the correct key. -Yes, I have reset my router and modem, no change. -Yes, I have restarted my phone. -Yes, my phone connects just fine to unsecured wireless routers. -No, I cannot find another thread that has solved this issue.
I have a HTC Hero - T-mobile. Ok the problem, is i used to be able to connect to my wifi router no problem, its a netgear. "remembered, secured with WPA-Personal" and for some reason, it just wont get passed Obtaining address... So its connecting? but cant establish an IP?
I've had wifi in my house for years. As I type these devices are connected: ps3, desktop, laptop, wife's iphone. Everything works fine. I walked in the house with my Captivate and it can't obtain an IP address. The password is right. It gets to "Obtaining IP address" but then it says "Unsuccessful." I have never ever had a device issue connecting to my wifi. Numerous family/friend phones have connected without a glitch. Any ideas?
I'm trying to connect my phone to my network so I can use wifi. I found my network and entered the correct password and it will say its obtaining an ip address but then after a few seconds it will say unsuccessful what am I doing wrong?
