Android : Handcent SMS Photos / Contacts Have Their Facebook Pictures
May 26, 2010
I promise I searched. I also looked at the "Here are the similar threads we found:" suggestions.
Anyways. Just got a Moto Droid. Downloaded Handcent SMS. It's great. However the ONE thing I can't figure out, is why do SOME of my contacts have their Facebook pictures, and others don't? I have "synched" with Facebook multiple times. The contacts I have saved have the exact same names as their Facebook profiles, so it should pop up, right?
I've searched for threads/answers about this issue but I haven't found any...and I'm a noob to the forum (and 2.1) so bear with me / don't eat me alive.
I enjoyed the Facebook syncing on 1.5, but I don't really have any interest in bringing over my Facebook contact photos as caller ID pictures (it's annoying when someone posts a picture of a car, for example, as their default picture -- my friend is not a Toyota). I do like seeing status updates in my People app and having access to a unified "updates" panel in People.
I've gone into the "link" settings and changed the photo manually to the Google Contacts photo that I specified, and that works fantastically -- until Facebook for HTC Sense does its hourly sync and overwrites that preference with the contact's default Facebook picture AGAIN.
I've tried syncing, un-syncing, removing the sync option, etc. in the past 2 leaks and this problem remains. Am I missing something or is this just another annoying beta bug that HOPEFULLY will be gone in OTA?
The standard way of getting contact photos/uris from ContactsContracts.Contacts.CONTENT_URI does not work for any photo that is not of GOOGLE descent! meaning, if the contact does not have a Google contact with a photo, then I cannot pull a contact photo. This is not only my problem. I see that no one has really answered this question.I know that the Android Incoming Call Screen displays a Facebook photo just fine, so I am not sure why I would need to do something different. Is there someone out there, from Google/Android, who can tell me what I need to do?
Somewhere along the way I chose to link my facebook pictures to my contacts and now I can't seem to override this option. I want to selectively change some pictures and I can't. I also can't remember where the heck I selected this option in the first place.
I have my Contacts updated with Facebook profile pictures, but when i check on the GMail website, no contact has the Facebook photo. I want to synchronize the pictures from Facebook to the contacts I have on my GMail account.
I know this might have been addressed but i just did a search and couldn't get a clear answer. What I want is the have my current contacts in my phone synced with facebook photos. But I do not want the 1,000 friends on facebook to be under contacts. Is there a way to do this?
I just set up my Droid Eris to sync my contacts with their Facebook profile so that their photos would show up in my contacts. I synced them all and them matched up properly, but their pictures are not aligned properly. When I first did it, their faces were aligned and everything looked ok, except some pictures were pretty pixelated. But after a few minutes, the pixelation went away and the quality of the pictures was better, except a lot of my contacts have their head not in the photo or just misaligned. More than half are off.I thought at first it was that they didn't set up their picture properly on Facebook, but I looked at their mini pictures (like the ones that show up in the news feed) and their faces were showing up properly. Even their mini pictures on the facebook app are correct. And these seem to be the same size as the pics in my contacts. Why is it that my contacts photos aren't aligned right on some of them and how can I fix this?
My friend's BB Storm shows all of his contacts with their respective Facebook profile pictures.I would like the same for my Moment.I was wondering if there was an app for that.I couldn't find one through searching. Any ideas?
Apologies if this has been covered in some other thread - but I couldn't find one.Just got my HTC Droid Incredible. I have my Apple Address Book set to sync with Google. I have my Droid also syncing with Google. Issue 1) Pictures I set on my Apple contacts did not sync to Google and therefore not to my Droid either. Issue 2) I manually loaded pictures onto my Droid then edited the contacts to use those pictures. After a bit of time (maybe one hour), the contact pictures reverted back to what Facebook has for those contacts. Is there some way to turn that syncing with Facebook off? Issue 3) even if I wanted to use the Facebook pictures, they appear very fuzzy and cropped badly on the Droid. To the point where they are not recognizable.
I spent an hour linking all my mates to their facebook profiles partly so I could have pictures associated with them. However, I accidentally removed my facebook account which reset them all. As it had synced with Google already, I just resynced the links back to my phone, no problems. However, now all the photos have disappeared and short of unlinking and relinking anyone (which will take a long time...), is there a quicker way to refresh their photos?
I have a contact that is linked to a Google and a Facebook contact. Both have photos. If I open the contact, press the link and then press the drop-down that overlays over their image at the top-left, I can change the contact to use the Google picture - which I prefer.but the picture ALWAYS reverts to the Facebook one after a while. Why is this?I should note that the Google picture is not THEIR google picture in GTalk - it's one I uploaded for them.
So i added the facebook account to the droid 2 and thus my contact list shows all facebook contacts. If i delete the facebook account that takes those contacts out of my list. However, by doing so will I not be able to sync facebook photos with my current contacts now?
I have an Eris. My friend has an Eris. His contacts have automatically d/l the Facebook pics from the corresponding contacts in his phone. Mine have not. I have to do it manually, which is becoming old. I set F/B to do it (I think) when I first got my phone.
When I go to individual contacts and try to link them, nothing ever shows up. My brother got a Droid X last night and when he installed the FB app it automatically synced the pictures for him. I re-installed my app and didn't get that option. How do I do this?
How to at least hide the pictures in my contacts list, some of which are synced from facebook. I find it a little creepy that pictures are there, and other people do too!! Hahah, I want to know how to do it, even if it involves getting an app!
Since I got the 2.1 Android upgrade, the picture of my contacts linked to facebook users do not update automatically anymore; so if a friend changes his profile picture on facebook, the new picture is not shown in "People". This was not the case before.
I want my contacts to have the facebook profile pictures. Most of them update, but i noticed some dont, which wouldve been bearable if a couple werent in my favourites (people) widget.
I've used SyncMyPics and it seemed to work fine, but all the pictures are now using the gmail picture which is blurry (fixed if i deleted the pic in gmail so itll used facebooks higher quality). but heres the problem, when i go to the contact to pic a new picture, the options are google and facebook, but the google is the updated picture, and facebook is still the old one. I want to use facebook too because its much better quality.
I finally got the RAZR MAXX yesterday after that long Verizon backorder drought, and I thoroughly enjoy it coming from the Droid 4 which I gave back after two weeks solely because of the battery life. With my Droid 4, though, when I sync'd my Facebook contacts into my phone, all of my friend's profile pictures were automatically updated as well. Now, with the RAZR MAXX, I get the contact name and information from Facebook but no pictures. All those grey boxes really become an eyesore (I'm anal about that sort of thing) and it's just TOO many people to manually add pictures for.
Logging out of Facebook and logging back in Unsyncing the Facebook account and deleting the Facebook app, then resyncing Letting the friends list populate with pictures in the app then checking in the phonebook SyncMyPix app
I know my girlfriends HTC Hero uses the profile pictures of her Facebook contacts for the pictures in her contacts on her phone. Is there any way to do this on the droid? I signed into the facebook app, but beyond that I don't know what to do.
For contacts that I have linked to their respective Facebook accounts, I had the phone import their Facebook default picture to use as their contact card photo.
However, once they change their default picture on Facebook, my phone never gets updated. It remains the initial picture that was imported, even if I go to the contact and tell it to update (which then gives me the option to use Birthday and Photo). The photo never gets updated though.
But... If I remove the Facebook link from that contact, and then link it again, their new Facebook picture shows up.
So my question... Is there any way this can be done automatically, without me having to do it this way? I'd like my contact photos to be updated automatically whenever they are changed (or at least have a set interval to check, like maybe once a day or so).
Is there a way to get facebook profile pictures into your gmail contacts? The main reason why I want them is for texting in the google voice app looks very plain without personal images.
I tried just putting in my own images into my gmail contacts to see if they would show up in the google voice app and they still dont show up. My ideal situation would be to use the facebook pictures, but if I need to I will go the second route of putting individual images into my gmail contacts and sync them that way, but I can't get either to work
My contact photo's/icon's keep getting overridden by their linked Facebook photo.. i set the particular contact to a photo and in a couple of seconds their facebook photo is back as their icon.. any way to keep this from happening.
