Android :: Does Change Background Will Change Padding Of Linear Layout

May 21, 2010

I have the following linear layout. What I don't understand is if I set the background to another image, the padding information are reset. Is there a way to prevent this?

<LinearLayout android:id="@+id/aPanel"
android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@drawable/bkground"
android:paddingLeft="15dp" android:paddingRight="15dp">

<!-- some children here -->
</LinearLayout>

I see the position of the children get shifted when I change the backround drawable of the linearlayout 'aPanel'.

Android :: Way To Completely Eliminate Padding In A Linear Layout Containing Buttons?

Nov 6, 2010

I tried the following to try to display two buttons in a horizontal linear layout, with the edges of the buttons flush with the border of the linear layout. To my surprise, I found that there is always still padding between the buttons and the left, right and bottom edges of the linear layout. Only the top edges of the buttons end up flush with the border of the linear layout. Why is that? And is there a way to control this behavior?
<Linear Layout android:orientation="horizontal"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#777"
android:padding="0dip"
android:layout_margin="0dip">
<Button android:id="@+id/feeling_done_button"
android:text="@string/done_button_label"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:padding="0dip"
android:layout_margin="0dip"/>
<Button android:id="@+id/feeling_cancel_button"
android:text="@string/cancel_button_label"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:padding="0dip"
android:layout_margin="0dip"/></Linear Layout>

Android :: Padding Issue While Setting A Image As Background In Phone?

Oct 19, 2010

In my android application i am using a image as background initially. Then on top of that i need to place small images and on top of the small images i would like to place a textview with some text on it.

I am using below code for that. With this am able to place the small images but the textview if i am trying to place it place in the next row and not over the image.
I also tried with adding the image as the background and then placing textview but at that case the padding and size of the image is not getting decreased.
Is there any way that i can have the images of size 60 by 60 and place a textview on top of these images.

Please share your valuable suggestions.
