Android :: Deserializing ArrayList Of Non-generic Type Using GSON

Jul 6, 2010

I'm trying to deserialize json data to an ArrayList of Restaurant object as follows (inpsired by what I found in https://sites.google.com/site/gson/gson-user-guide#TOC-Collections-Examples):

CODE:...............

But this gives the error shown at the end of the post.

It seems that there is some null pointer in listType... Here's a watch of listType:

CODE:...............

What's wrong with my code? How can I do that?

Android :: GSON And The Flickr API Problems - JsonParseException When Deserializing Json

Jun 24, 2010

I'm building simple app, simply to learn the android ropes, that will display a list of the most recent photos uploaded to flickr. The app is constructed but it's crapping out when it tries to deserialize the json that I get back from flickr. Here is my error:

CODE:....................

From, the error I'm assuming it has something GSON doesn't like about the json that is being returned but I don't know enough about how java converts objects and other types of variables during the whole operation.

I'm not sure if you will need this but here is some of the code from the project:

Android :: Android Eclipse Error - Gson Cannot Resolved To Type

Jun 20, 2010

I'm relatively new to Java, eclipse and android so this could be a completely silly question, but I'm going to ask it none the less.

I've got a project I'm learning with to test connecting to the flickr api and simply displaying recent images. I'm at the point now where I want to parse the JSON received from flickr. I've downloaded gson 1.4 and added the zip to the java build path through "add external jars." It's successfully loaded and I can see google-gson under referenced libraries in the package explorer. My problem is, when I try to use it, I simply get an error.

Gson gson = new Gson();

It highlights Gson and says that "Gson cannot be resolved to a type." What am I missing here? It worked once and has since stopped. I've tried removing the jars, cleaning the project and re-adding the jars but it still doesn't work.

Android :: Java.lang.StackOverflowError When Deserializing

Apr 21, 2009

I've got a strange problem here doing object de/serialization. In Java (JDK 1.6) I serialize some objects. In Android (SDK 1.1) I deserialize them. This work quite nice in general. In order to work with a server object (that uses Castor un/ marshalling) I do it like I always do. Same routines. Well, this time the file is only 172kb (my routines works pretty well with 2,4mb files) but the interlacing is quite deep. So it all starts with a class containing 2 ArrayLists. I tried de/serializing just ArrayList<String> and this works very well. But the XML file (which is unmarshalled with Castor and serialized in JDK) has 7000 lines. So I get this StackOverflowError....................

Here is Driver.java:

Android :: Google Gson Running On Droid / How Does It Work

Mar 4, 2010

I'm playing arround with google gson for communication with my web back end at the moment.
This and this older posts indicate that there are some problems with gson on android.

I did some easy tests on the device already but maybe I just missed the bug.

Edit I'm now parsing a lot more data. Generic lists etc. still not encountered the bug.

Has anybody used gson on Android already? How does it work? Has somebody encountered bugs or something that will stop me from using it once it gets more complicated?

General :: Changing App Type Or App Action Type?

Nov 7, 2013

My current situation is that I have a phone with 2 camera apps on it, stock and camera FV-5.

Camera FV-5 is slower than the stock camera, so I only use it in situations which I need manual control.

Whenever I open whatsapp and try to send a photo, the app asks me which camera I want to use, with no option to always use stock. I don't want camera FV-5 to exist as an option, as I will open it if I want to use it.

Is there a way to remove an app from the list so that my phone does not recognise camera FV-5 as a camera?

Android :: Passing An ArrayList Of Objects

Nov 12, 2010

Is there a way to pass an Array List of objects between activities? The myObject implements Parcelable and I'm able to successfully pass the objects around individually, but that means I need to have an exact amount of "myObjects" coded. I want this to dynamically grow/shrink by what the user does with the app. I have seen some posts on the web about doing:

Activity A
ArrayList<myObject> myObjArray = new ArrayList<myObject>();

Then when passing this into the intent I would use:
intent.putParcelableArrayListExtra("myObjArray", myObjArray);

Activity B
ArrayList<myObject> myObjArray = new ArrayList<myObject>();
Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras(); myObjArray = extras.getParcelableArray("myObjArray");

However, the myObjArray always gets filled with "null". How can I achieve this?

I was trying to serialize an ArrayList which contains custom objects. I'm serializing it in a Servlet (server side), and deserialize at the client side. (using ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream)

It worked fine, when I work with ArrayList<String>.
But when I tried it with ArrayList<MyObject> I couldn't get any results in the client side, this is the exception:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: web.MyObject

Of course I have done this:
public class MyObject implements Serializable { ... }
MyObject contains only String fields.
