I am trying to compose a list with some items expandable and some single items. I wish to have it so that when either a single item or expandable list child is clicked, I can call an intent based on the text of the item.I suppose expandable lists would work, but is there a way to set items in an expandable list so that they don't have the expandable list icon? Should I use something other than a string array? What is the best way to do this?
I was wondering if its possible to block the onclick events on a layout and all the children inside the layout.
for example, I have a LinearLayout and inside that I have buttons and an editText. At a certain point I don't want the user to click on the buttons or edit the text. Is there a way to block that? Do I have to do it for each view? or I can do it for a Layout? What is the best way to do this?
As a work around to the issue where a list item isn't focusable if it has a focusable child item (a comment by Romain Guy was that this was intended behavior, for accessibility reasons) I simply filled the listItem with two children, each of which is focusable - There's nowhere to directly touch on the listItem anymore, just it's children.
For the most part this is a useable workaround, effectively invisible to the user, except for one thing- Although you can scroll by swiping without issue, touching to *stop* the scroll no longer works- I imagine because the child item is capturing the touch event and not passing it to the parent listitem, at least while the scroll is in effect.
Is there a known workaround for this? Perhaps someway to "pass the baton" of the touch event back up to the parent listItem, or a way to change my design?
BTW- I know there's some built-in functonality for single/multiple choice listviews (checkbox listviews) - That doesn't actually help in my case. The app is a contact list, and the row children are a relativelayout (populated with contact info) and a clickable phone icon (a one-touch dial for the contact), which needs to be visible or invisible depending on whether the stored contact has a phone number.
I use onLongClick and onClick events of a button to get user inputs. Whenever; the user long click and triggers onLongClick event, the onClick event is also triggered. I couldn't find my problem. The code of two methods are shown in below: Code...
I could not figure out how to implement two basic functionalities with the expandable lists: 1. The onClick for the child 2. Using linear layout for the children, so that I can have multiple clickable items in same row under the parent item
Can somebody help me with some sample code for the above?
I'm using BaseExpandableListAdapter, and there is a drop-down button (looks like an arrow) on the left side for each parent item to indicate that you can expand that item to view child items. The question is: How can I change the properties of that drop-down button such as its position? I basically want to move it a bit lower in each parent item.
I am using expandable list view in my layout which contain list of fitness activities i have done on that particular day. I can see all the list of activities when i initially open my Activity. But when i add new activities, i can not see new activities in my expandable list view. How can i see my new activities when i come back from other screens?
I have requirement like this- my activity contains some textviews at the top then the expandable list view in the middle and a button at the bottom. my problem is when i clicked on expandable list view the expanded list get accommodated in the space between button and expandable list view.
I wanted expandable list view to get expanded full and button should move downward according to the contains of the expandable list view. And i have used scrollview as a main layout. thank you

I have just started my career as an android programmer, and am currently relying heavily on the sample code and api examples. I have been working with this api example, to produce an expandable list of items (note this example does not use the ExpadableListView). In playing with the example, I tried to add another widget that would become visible and be gone at the same time as the text (mDialogue in the sample code). This works well with another TextView, but as soon as I tried to add a button widget, it stopped working. The list would expand on first click, showing my hidden TextView and Button, but it will not disappear on further clicks. The button is however, clickable, and I was able to set up an onClick listener to change the button text back and forth.I'm starting to wonder, is it just not possible to have a clickable item inside a clickable list item? Or is there some kind of work around? Would it solve my problem if I used ExpandableListView?
I am using a simple expandable list that is populated by two arrays ( group array for the groups and a multi dimensional children array for the child). The arrays are built dynamically in the program and some group items have more children than others. So I end up defining the highest number as the array size for the multidimensional child array. After populating the child array, some positions are left null, as there are no values for those group items (explained above). When I associate this with the expandable list adapter, the getChildView method throws a nullpointer exception when it comes across a position in child array that does noto have value. I have two questions: 1. Can I make the base adapter skip the shildview method if the value in that child is null? The current implementation of getchildView method has to return a view and even if I suppress the nullpointer exception, it adds a blank element in the child position in the list.
2. Is there a better way of associated multidimensional arrays that are populated at run time? The current set of examples only use hardcoded string array values. Even the cursor adapters examples use very basic setup.
I use ListView.(Adapter is a Custom Adapter) *extends BaseAdapter. I wanto to get selected item, when I click the item in the list. now, I use OnItemClickListener, OnItemSelectedListener. but, This program doesn't do the operation for which I hope. not click. I want to get a selected Item in the list, when like mouse_down. (Moment when color of item in list changed?)
I am having a List of Item which I retrieved from my Sqlite DB. I wants to set Click event for each n every item. How I can customise this event based on Item clicked? Be Descriptive. I am a Begineer. The method tht I used to fill data in my List............
I am new to Android development and I am currently working through a tutorial but have already run into a brick wall. I am trying to handle a simple button click following some sample code but can't get it to work. I do not get any errors, but the click does not register on the emulator. I have set breakpoints and confirmed that the handler never gets executed.
I'm trying automate UI Functional testing of my application.
1) First phase: Record the user actions and playing back the same.
2) Second Phase: Adding Validation Capability to Recorded scripts.
In First Phase: I'm able to automate the Text/Editbox control actions without any issues, because we need to Set the Text of the control to the recorded value, so, its simple. While coming to Button Control actions, we need to simulate user actons, like Clicking on button. Can anyone suggest me, Do we have any mechanism, which can simulate button click event in Android?
I have a large text view that I am styling with a SpannableStringBuilder. I want to be able to assign custom click event handlers to certain spans of text. For example, if I click a superscript character I want it to pop up a toast with some information about what the superscript references. So far I have found linkify which helps to make regular expression type of things like emails and phone numbers launch appropriate activities. What I want to be able to do is define a span and its styling and assign a click handler to it. I haven't found anything built in that supports this kind of functionality and so I'm asking for anyone with a fresh idea of how to do this.
