Android :: Attach Dynamic Adapter To EditText?

Aug 4, 2010

Is there a way to attach dynamic adapter to EditText?

What I want is - when a key is pressed on EditText, my code to do a search in (some) custom store and provide suggestions (instead of static Xml-list or array). This store is not a database; I think CursorAdapter is for database results only. Example code snippets are welcomed.

Android :: To Make EditText Look Like TextView But Still Behave Like EditText

May 17, 2009

I want an EditText to look like TextView but still behave like EditText. I've tried applying TextView style to my EditText in my layout.xml file, like this:

CODE:............

But I get an error within xml editor: "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'style' with value '@android:style/ Widget_TextView')." It is strange because @android:style/ Widget_TextView definitively exists - I double checked it in code via android.R.style.Widget_TextView. Another strange thing is that I don't get android:style offered in the xml editor while typing? There is android:id, android:text and everything else.. but not android:style?

I consider the hard way (making EditText look like TextView) to be: extending EditText and overriding it's onDraw method.

Android :: ScrollView With EditText - Scrolling In EditText

May 14, 2010

Our app (WordPress for Android) uses a ScrollView for the new blog post view. The issue is that if a user writes a lengthy blog post in the EditText, they are unable to scroll inside of the EditText because the ScrollView seems to be taking over the scrolling action, even when you are in the EditText.

Here's the layout XML (the EditText in question is @id/content):

Android :: Placing A TextView Before EditText Element In Android Layout XML Causes EditText Not To Show

Jul 29, 2010

Every time I put a TextView before an EditText element in a LinearLayout, the EditText does not show. When I don't, it does.

I've narrowed the problem down to the TextView's layout_width attribute. If I give it "wrap_content", it works, but doesn't "block" down, and it appears on the same line as the EditText.

Android :: Android - EditText And Button - When Click Button - Unfocus EditText And Hide Soft Keyboard

Jun 24, 2010

CODE:............

I have this at the top of my application. When the application starts, the EditText is orange highlighted and has a cursor in it; when the EditText is tapped, the soft keyboard pops up. The user uses it to type into the EditText.

However, when they click the Button, my onClick method fires and does everything it's supposed to, however the soft keyboard stays on screen and the EditText is still highlighted with its cursor.

I also have, at the top of the Button onclick: findViewById(R.id.name).clearFocus();

In spite of this, the EditText does not seem to clear its focus. How do I make the button actually act as if it is submitting the form?

Also, I do not transition to a different Activity on the click of the Button. I suppose that is the typical case, and probably the reason why they don't bother hiding the keyboard. However I want to keep the search box and button at the top of the screen, so I just dynamically fill and add views to the screen when the Button is pressed. How can I achieve my desired behavior?

Android :: How To Attach Custom Map On MapView?

Jul 9, 2010

I am trying to place my custom map (overlay) over Google map. For example, my MapView will be positioned to look at some building. I want to load custom image(s) that will show building's floor plan. Want to be able to pan and zoom, and place markers (for example, Room 1, Room 2, etc...), in other words, I would like to be able to use Google Map API methods. The best would be if Google map images are not loaded at all, since that will (I believe) slow down user's experience. Also, the user may be inside the building, and connection may be slow or non-existing.

Android :: Possible To Attach File To Email Without Writing To SD?

Dec 2, 2009

My application stores data locally in the native SQLite db, and I want to allow users to export this data by emailing themself a .csv file. In order to do this I'm generating the .csv from the database and writing it to the SD card, then attaching it to an email:String Builder csv = generateFile();writeFile(csv.toString(),"file.csv");Intent email = new Intent(android.content.Intent.ACTION_SEND);email.setType ("application /octet -stream"); email.putExtra(android.content.Intent. EXTRA_ STREAM, Uri.parse ("file://sdcard/file.csv")); Which all works great. What I'm wondering, though, is if it is possible to skip the step of writing to SD first, and directly attach the data.

Android :: Trying To Attach File From SD Card To Email

Feb 25, 2009

I am trying to launch an Intent to send an email. All of that works, but when I try to actually send the email a couple 'weird' things happen. So if I launch using the Gmail menu context It shows the attachment, lets me type who the email is to, and edit the body & subject. No big deal. I hit send, and it sends. The only thing is the attachment does NOT get sent.I figured, why not try it w/ the Email menu context (for my backup email account on my phone). It shows the attachment, but no text at all in the body or subject. When I send it, the attachment sends correctly. That would lead me to believe something is quite wrong. Do I need a new permission in the Manifest launch an intent to send email w/ attachment? What am I doing wrong?
