Android :: Android RatingBar Weirdness - Whenever Add A RatingBar To Layout A Bunch Of The Generated Tags
Mar 27, 2010
Whenever I use a RatingBar view in my layout, I suddenly get all kinds of compile errors. I'm using Android 2.0, but I've also tried 2.0.1, and 2.1, without joy. I also get a message:
Shader 'android.graphics.BitmapShader' is not supported in Layout Editor, and an odd warning which may or maynot be related: warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute.
I've tried using the RatingBar both within a tablelayout and outside it, but it behaves the same way.
Here's the XML:

I've added a RatingBar in a layout :
CODE:...........
But the default style for the rating bar is too large.
I've trie to change it by adding the android style : style="?android:attr/ratingBarStyleSmall"
But the result is too small and it's impossible to set a rate with this property.

I have a ListView that uses different XML files to create Views and make items out of. One of these XML files contains a RatingBar. Everything displays and looks excellent. I'm trying to attach an onClick handler to the RatingBar to launch a new Activity. My RatingBar is of style ?android:attr/ratingBarStyleSmall; so it's just an indicator (I want the small RatingBar click to take the user to an Activity where they can do various ratings).
My problem is the onClick handler for the RatingBar never gets executed. What makes it more interesting is that I've used the same code to make a LinearLayout clickable and it works fine. My Adapter's getView looks as such:...............

I am following the standard example of how to add a RatingBar. To control the number of stars I tried to use android:numStars="5". The problem is that the number of stars doesn't seem to do anything at all. In portrait-layout I get 6 stars and when I flip the phone I get about 10 stars. I tried to set the number of stars in my Activity (myBar.setNumStars(5) ) that loads the xml but there was no success with that option either.
So my question is how do I define my layout so that it will only show five stars? Set numStars doesn't seem to work.

I am currently working on a project which requires me to use an XML document to render a form on an Android device. The form must be fetched and displayed at run-time. I am wondering if there is a way to tag the form XML, transform it using XSLT into an Android layout XML, and then have the device render it.

I have had a problem with no matter what android phone I have. This has been doing it for quite some time but I dealt with it but last night I lost 12 GB of music so here it is:
Whenever I move music in these situations, it will erase all ID3 Tag information (Artist, Album, etc) and all it has is the file name. I had 2000 songs with artist names and all, but when moved it all became unknown artist. Here are the situations:
Galaxy S3: Moving Music from one folder to another (Like from a Download folder to my music folder on external SD). Or from moving music from internal to external or vice versa.
Optimus G: Moving music from one folder to another on the internal storage (Again, like from a download to music folder).
Evo 4G: Just moving from folder to folder.
All this is done with ES. File explorer. I tried other but they do it too. It can not be device specific because it happens on almost any android. All songs are in MP4/MP3 format and maybe some .wma.

I need some help with the following scenario, as I am so used to make all of my layouts with XML, but now I have a situation where that won't work.
I am working on the second version of my app that delivers news, in the comments section I used to use a listview to display user comments, but it doesn't work that great for comments that could be anywhere from 5 to 500+ characters long. So I want to create a whole bunch of TextViews in a scrollview and stack them below each other.
My best guess was this, although it is definitely wrong because it only shows one comment. I assume I have to use some kind of LayoutParams and so I've looked into it but am still not sure how exactly to use them.

This happens on my Evo (Stock ROM Froyo 2.2) and may be happening on yours too. My calendar has a bunch of appointments put in either by our Exchange server or manually added by me. Normally these look fine. However, if I go into the built in calendar application and click the search button (magnifying glass) and then search for an appointment something strange happens. Once the search finds the appointment and I press on the appointment to open the event, the time now shows 12:00 AM. instead of when the appointment really is. Now, the time isn't actually changed because if I navigate/scroll to the actual event and open it from there it's fine.

I have some weirdness when trying to answer my phone. I searched these forums and it doesn't look like anyone else is complaining about it. Is it just me?
Note: I had to play around with it a bit to replicate the problems because sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
I can classify the problems into two categories. 1) When the screen is off when the phone is ringing. and 2) When the screen is on and I see Caller Id etc...
1) Behavior when the screen is off when the phone is ringing:
First off, I'm not sure why sometimes the screen is on or off when it's ringing. I keep the phone in my pocket so I wonder if its the "proximity detector" some people have mentioned. When I pull the phone out of my pocket, sometimes the screen turns on, sometimes it doesn't. Yet sometimes I can sneak a peek in my pocket at the caller ID. Anybody know what determines what makes the screen on or off when a call is coming in?
When the screen is off, the green answer button does nothing. This is particularly frustrating when the phone is in my hand with nothing in front of it to block the proximity detector, yet I cannot answer it. Giving the phone a little shake sometimes makes it tun on, bust sometimes doesn't. Maybe the shake effect is just coincidence.
Also, pressing the side buttons will not silence it like they do when the screen is on. The only button that works is the red one which sends the caller to voice mail.
2) Behavior when the screen is on and the phone is ringing:
Green button answers it, as it should.
Red button sends it to voice mail, as it should.
Side buttons silence it, as they should.
The home menu and back buttons send it directly to voice mail. This is frustrating if I'm pulling the phone out of my pocket ad accidentally brush one of those going for the green button. Anybody else have this problem?
Also I was reading on other threads about holding the red button until options come up. Mine does not do this. The red button just sends caller to voice mail no matter how long I hold it.
3) Sometimes my screen does not go to sleep. But stays on the "screen locked, pres menu to unlock" screen. This often happens after I miss a call, or just hit the red button to check the time and then set it down. But only sometimes and not others. Any clues?

I got a HTC Magic a couple of weeks ago, and I've noticed a few weird behaviour.
1) Contacts Syncing doesn't work after a while. I had it synced when I first got it setup, but now it will give me a sync error...
2) My exchange calendar's attendees goes missing. I see them on the phone, but in outlook, all of the attendees are missing and updates to meetings are NOT reflected in exchanges, and hence will not be reflect on my phone.
Number 2 is the biggest issue. Has anyone else seen this?

Up in the lefthand corner. They are just sitting there. The media scanner says it's been running since 1:56 -that's 1:56 Monday afternoon, nearly a week.
Concurrently, I've noticed a significant drop in battery life. I don't know if the two are related but I do know that those little icons are annoying.

When I go to the gallery and select a photo and hit the share button, I get a bunch of choices that I never use and probably never will. I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get to the twitdroid. Does anyone know how to remove the "share" selections like peep, or picasa, or facebook. If you know a setting that I seem to be missing, please share.

The automatic generation of the R class does not work anymore. I have tried Project -> Clean.A warning on all xml files has also showed up: No grammar constraints (DTD or XML schema) detected for the document." Maybe that is why the code generation have stopped. Any idea how to get the R class generated again?

I've been working on a project for several weeks now, and just tonight I started having a problem. The R.java file is no longer being generated. I've attempted to clean the project (the first time I do this it removes the R.java file but doesn't regenerate it) and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SDK. I've also tried resetting adb to no avail.
This problem does not occur in my other Android projects. They clean just fine and regenerate the R.java file like nothing is wrong. This particular project is the only one suffering from this problem.

I wonder if anyone knows whether the built in media player uses some kind of caching of mp3 files ID3 tag information, because after I change the tag of a file it doesn't show the updated data. Only after the phone restart, I guess after /sdcard remount, does it show correct tag info.

I know I can set DEBUG in Android's ADB by typing:
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag DEBUG
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to set debug for all my classes that do logging instead of having to type the above multiple times:
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag1 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag2 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag3 DEBUG
adb shell setprop log.tag.MyTag4 DEBUG
Something like:
adb shell setprop log.tag.* DEBUG
I'm using Eclipse for developing, but I'm currently setting the DEBUG through the command line adb.
