Is it risky to install APKs found on the interwebz to my phone if i have scanned them with an antivirus first? (AVG) Would antivirus even pick anything up?I want betterkeyboard for free because the HTC_IME has me sadly disappointed.
We've rebuilt a couple of our apps with the 1.5 SDK (but targeting 1.1).
The Market seems to have a bit of trouble with the background of the icons. They appear correctly (with transparent backgrounds) on the desktop, and they appear correctly when the app is downloaded from the Market and installed on the device.
However, they appear on black (not transparent) backgrounds in the Market uploader web page, and in the Market application on the device.
It looks to me as though the Market has a problem when it extracts the icon from the .apk at upload time, with .apks built by the 1.5 SDK.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Market requires the minSdkVersion to be set in AndroidManifest.xml.
But my manifest has the line : <uses-sdk minSdkVersion="2" /> and I also tried even <uses-sdk minsdkversion="2" />... I try to put this line : as the first child of manifest, as the last child and also right after application.. Is there a hidden rule I don't know ...
A while back I read that Verzion Android devices apps will have to go thru the Verizon Market, meaing that all apps has to be approved by Google AND Verizon. Can you sideload apps on Verzion Android devices?
I am developping (for my company) an app included on a project that will have 2 versions:
- 1st simple version to download using a OTA server, clients accesss to an URL to download.
- 2nd version more complex to be published on the Market.
The question here is that the process to publish on the Android Market is under bureaucratic internal process and it takes a long time, so the idea do reduce the time to market is to provide an OTA version.
There is any possibility for users that download application via OTA to upgrade the application for version published later on the Market? (Both Application will be signed with the same key).
I know my question answers but since there's a lot of you who really spend your time scrutinizing your rank, downloads and all, I'm trying it maybe someone came up with empiric science on this one :
Does anyone understood even bits of how the market ranks apps in the market ?
I usually don't look at stats but following another post on this topic, I counted my rank in my category ... 565 ... Ouch that hurts! Especially when half the apps in front of mine, are crap apps with less downloads and ratings as low as 1 star :).
Not that it would make a difference being rank 250 instead of 565...But this is humiliating a little :s
Since my app has been on the market for one month, i'm wondering if age matters ...
I know I should have asked in the market "black hole of hell " google group but the name says it all. And I'm sure some of you already figured out some of the black magic used by the Market to rank apps.
I've just noticed that the Android Market shows a blank page with the message 'No matching content in Android Market'. Yet when I go to specific sections of the Market or do a search, one is able to download and install applications and games just fine. I've only just noticed this happening in the last few days. I'm using an unlocked UK version Galaxy S but my location is Inner Mongolia, China. Would this have anything to do with Android Market not showing content on the front page? The S itself is loaded with Froyo, as downloaded from the XDA forums.
I had an edited png for the market icon in the vending apk but when I applied my edited png's to Ivans rom with the market fix it seems to have changed the icon back to the original market Icon. When I first loaded the rom it showed my edited png for the market icon but after my first reboot it seems to change the icon back to the original. I assume that the market is updating upon reboot so I pulled the vending apk off my phone and my edited png's are still there but its still showing the original market icon. Anybody else with an edited market icon notice this or any ideas of why its going back to original? I have tried this a couple times and it always updates after first reboot...
This is a modified version of the original facebook for android found in market. There are two versions that I have made. One being Red And the other being Blue. The concept behind this app was to be inverted from the original app and have a black background with white text.I upgraded the Icons and Changed a few of the text colors around. It is has been PNG optimized, Zip aligned, and signed with private keys. Its is also its own 3rd party app and will not affect the original facebook for android app you already have on your phone. It is in the market. Go to the paid apps in social or search for BLACK FACEBOOK. I am charging a dollar due to the massive amount of time it took to put these together.
Just got my Inc today and I had bookmarked a thread about a black and red modded Swype. For some reason the thread is gone now and I really wanted a copy of it.Where can I get that version, and if that is impossible, how do I get ANY version?
Massive problems with the market im experiencing, iv had my desire for 3 weeks, and no problems at all, UNTILL NOW, whats going on?
I go to search in the market, and type in dialer, it brings up all the customisable dialer choices, if i choose ANY of them, i go to pay, and everytime i get the error message "A server error has occurred, retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen" but it is only on the dialer packages.i can buy and download anything else fine,
Can someone test this out for me?
Iv reset my phone 3 times, and its the same thing evertime, WHATS GOING ON?
I uploaded an upgrade to my application and opened it again to see if everything is correct or not. I was surprised to see 8 screen shots instead of 2. I deleted 6 images and save it. but when ever I reopen I see 8 images. When I tried to download updated version of my app on my device thorough Android Market, it kept crashing. Did any one else faced same problem? version of the last upgrade is 4.
i have set the background of an activity with a green gradient png image. This working fine almost always but some times during navigating to an activity its background is becoming black! i am not able to reproduce it with any specific operation, also not getting how to debug or fix it.
I installed panda home just now and i get a black screen. I tried a battery pull, phone reset, etc. I cant get past the black screen. Is there any way I can boot in safe more or something? I literally cant use my phone, all I see is the task bar at the top and no buttons.

My PreferenceActivity contains a nested PreferenceScreen in another PreferenceScreen and I'm applying a theme to my PrefenceActivity that changes the background color. However when I open the nested PreferenceScreen I get a black background and I cannot see the options. This happens with android 2.1 , but it does not happen with android 1.6.Any ideas on how this can be corrected?
Is there a simple way to have text be able to have a black outline? I have textviews that will be different colors, but some of the colors don't show up on my background so well, so I was wondering if there's an easy way to get a black outline or something else that will do the job? I'd prefer not to have to create a custom view and make a canvas and such.
Can anyone confirm the fact that webview is broken in the 1.5 sdk? Either that, or update the code page on the google developer side as neither that code nor any other (including my previously working webview code) is showing anything but a blank black screen.
in my app, I came into an Activity from the pre Activity's UI (such as:click a TextView which has added OnClickListener), like this way, after several times, I came into a deeper Activity. I left it for a while (such as left away) , when I came back ,I returned the Activity before the last Activity. then I got a black screen.
I currently use Slidescreen as a glorified Google Reader app (i.e. turned off the facebook, twitter and stocks parts), because it presents the feeds beautifully in light grey text on a black background, which not only looks cool, but it saves on battery life on my Desire's AMOLED screen. Letting me swipe away feeds without clicking through (when I can see from the headline that I don't need to) is nice too.The downside is that Slidescreen seems to eat up quite a lot of power and battery, and there is no convenient way to refresh feeds (you either have it autocheck regularly, eating lots more power, or you have to click the menu button, then "home settings", then scroll down to "google reader", then "reload group" - hardly a simple process to do regularly).
Another nice thing that Slidescreen does is let you choose which Reader folders it syncs with, so it can just present you with feeds more suited to reading on a phone. Are there any other Google Reader apps (that use less cpu/battery than Slidescreen, otherwise I might as well stick with Slidescreen), but also offer white/grey text on a black background, and let you choose which of the feeds it syncs with?I've got Greed2, which is a very nice app, but it doesn't have either of the above features.
My use case is writing an overlay controller activity for a landscape camera preview. I followed the instructions from a couple of tutorials for writing a transparent theme. When I start this activity from my root activity, the layout gets drawn correctly, but the background stays black. I tried to use @android:style/Theme.Translucent instead, but this Theme inherits the orientation from the calling activity (landscape) and thats not what I want. The application holding the camera preview is set to landscape view as it does not display the preview correctly in portrait orientation. (see old google bug report)What I wanted to do was to put an independent activity for user interaction interface in front of the camera surface holder (this activity should be set to 'portrait', or even better to 'sensor')
