2.1 Update :: Backup Restore Failure - All Contacts Lost?
Nov 22, 2010
Today I went to update my X10. While at work it wouldn't allow me to as it insisted I connected it to a computer. So at home I got the USB cabled hooked up to my Linux Laptop and then discovered it had to be a windows computer. Anyway, I got it hooked to a Windows computer and the update process began. I followed every instruction and set all tickboxes for backup. After unplugging this and plugging it back in and rebooting here and there, it finally reached the restore process. I left it restoring for a while.
When I came back to it, it said something had crashed. I don't know what as I'd just woken from a nap. But, it seems all my applications are restored. Yet my gmail account & facebook account have become disassociated from my phone and all my contacts no longer have any names or pictures. I opened the contacts/phone book and the list is completely empty. I tried to import contacts but it says it cannot find any anywhere. I have work related contacts as well as family & friends and really need to get my contacts back - please advise?
I recently updated my Mini Pro to Android 2.1, I followed the steps on the sonyericssonsupport YouTube video. I did a Backup of all my stuff on the phone, when I'd updated my phone and turned it on it asked me to setup the phone again with the Language, Time & Date etc and now when I try to restore my settings it says "Could Not Restore" when it is almost done.
I have just updated xperia x10 from 1.6 to 2.1 (Rogers) and figured it out that all my applications were lost. Before the update, I installed the last PC Companion Software from SE and made two backups using the backup and restore application. After the update, when I tried to restore using it, there's no market application checkbox. Everything else (contacts, messages..) was restored. The paid applications are shown in the Market Download tab to install, but just that (because they are associated with google account).Nothing more. I lost about +50 apps with their user data.I searched all the net about it, but the only info I found it was that the backup and restore tool just save the application links. How about the user data? I reinstall some of the apps that I had, but no user data. Am I the only one that had this problem? Is there any advanced tool to try to undelete internal memory of the phone?
I'm so angry it's hard for me to even type. I upgraded my X10 mini pro to Android 2.1 today and I followed the instructions and the YouTube video EXACTLY step by step.I made a back-up before the update, with the updated Back-up & restore app.Now the Android update is done and i've tried and tried but I can't get my contacts back. Every time I run the restore function of Back-up & restore it tells me the restore is done, but when I go to my contacts list, it's empty.
I live in Denmark I have gotten the 2.1 update a few days ago.The SE startscreen does not work anymore (I am using ADW.launcher anyways but I am thinking about reinstalling the update again to get everything to work as intended.I have notised that the new backup and restore program contains a menu item during backup called Programs from market. I tried to do a backup but that menu item didnt seem to progress from 0 to 100% like the others (Sms phonebook and so on) so I am unsure if the backup file actully contains info on Programs I installed (from market) or not.Problem is that I am getting sick of first remembering all the apps I have downloaded and then downloading them all again. It takes hours and would be so much easier if phone either makes a backup of all programs/apps or at least keept a list of what was installed. Its is not possible to find the programs via market/download list (or at least has not been possible for the last 2 updates for the phone)
I have a new HTC Hero and TELUS imported the contacts from my old (OLD) Motorola i570 dumbphone. I need to do a lot of cleanup of the data, including specifying proper first/last names, merging postal and e-mail address data from my Palm TX's database, etc. I used "Contacts Manager" to export my phone-based contacts to an XML file on the SD card. It can apparently import an XML file as well, but I can't get it to work. It always complains about importing a directory instead of a file.
Contacts Manager v1.1 Application for Android | Tools
So now I'm looking for another app that can overwrite my phone's contacts database with new data from an XML or CSV file. I would really prefer not to send all this information up to Google.
My first Android phone, so please forgive my ignorance if any. Rooted Vibrant, flashed from stock ROM to Obsidian V4. I did a "backup current ROM" before "install ROM from SD card" by using Rom Manager. The process went smooth, but after booting into the new ROM, I found that all my contacts were gone. Sync with google account won't help because most of the phone numbers are not tied with my gmail contacts.
Now, I want to know if there is any way to extract/restore my contacts without restoring to the saved backup. Actually, I tried restore but the phone did not boot after restore. Do I have to use Odin to boot my phone to solve this issue? And even if I succeed, will I see all my contacts?
I know how to backup & restore, but how do I install it in to my X10?.I go to browser I in put m. sonyericsson.com/backup but it just taks me to a page that tells me how to backup in steps. Why can I just hit a link on that page that will just let me install the new backup & restore, plz help me out.I called SE help & they have to get back to me .
I just updated my X8 to Android 2.1. Two days ago I made a backup of contacts, messages etc.But when I try to install the backup and restore I made two days ago it can't complete it.I have my messages but my favourite contacts, timescape and widgets need to be reinstalled. And contacts which I have deleted a week ago are now reappearing on my phone.I have logged in to my gmail and market and all of my apps are in there so that's not the problem. It's like something is working and something is definately not.
Just updated my xperia x10 to the new 2.1 op. Followed the installation to the letter, backed up my files using the new backup n restore etc, updated it n then began the restore, now this is the frustration part. i did everything SE said to do even did 2 backups but when i try to restore it takes ages n then says could not complete. not only have i lost all contacts but more frustrating i have lost all my apps, both paid and free. my Google account seems to be wrong although i cant really remember it, tried to get the user name/password sent to my hotmail but seems to of created a new account n i don't have these "links to re-downloads" ur android apps. please need help big time cause m just ready stuck and frustrated.
I got the Backup&Restore app downloaded, but when I try to open it I get the error message: "install blocked for security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in android market." I can figure out where to change these security settings. Doesn't seem to be in phone settings or browser settings.
I backed up all the system and user apps before installing the custom ROM CynaogenMod 10. I restored the user apps and it worked fine. Then I tried restoring the system apps and I had to choose to restore from either XML or system image. I chose system image, rebooted and the phone kept restarting. I then tried using the XML file to restore system files. Again the same problem; the phone kept restarting.
Out of the backed up system files, the most important one for me is the contacts. Is there any way I can restore only the contacts. I have the following files in the backup folder pertaining to contacts.
I upgraded my phone with no problems. However, when I tried to restore my backup I was informed that there wasn't one. Is this a common problem? Is there a way Ican stop that from happening niext time? I still have most of my contacts but they aren't linked to my facebook anymore and with the new upgrade I can't seem to be able to link them, except if I go through facebook. The problem with that is that some people use different names on there or I have them in my contact list under different names. Is there a way to link them manually anymore? Thats how I used to do it.
i lost all my contacts and im trying to use backup assistant to sync my contacts and they are not adding back on. i check my verizon wireless account and i still have the contacts on the webpage?.. not sure exactly what is going on. i did drop my fone and it have a dent but this can not be the reason why?
I had my phone rooted and i loaded the cyanogenmad 6 and it worked fine. but i forget to do titatnium backup so i lost all my contacts! i tried to install back up manager for verizon but it wont let me. now im trying to go back to stock without root so i can get my contacts and redo everything. i followed everything step by step and put the file in my root of my sd and i loaded in hboot but its not showing anything.
I struggle with technology! Tried to download photos. Prompted to update phone. Prompted to download Backup doc. Did backup successfully. When Restored - all of my contacts have gone !! hen I check thro my text messages I can find contacts beginning with A B C L and M . HELP
Just was wondering, after updating a rom, or titanium backup restore of all your apps. Seems that they dont get set in the play store to "auto update", so usually I have to wind up doing it 1 by 1. Was there a way to mass set the auto update on all my apps? Cause the Play Store Settings, while set to auto update for new apps. Only will be applied on apps installed from play store, not from a restore from backup.
I updated my Xperia X10 to 2.1 today. I backed up my contacts, messages, call logs everything. When the phone was updated and I restored everything contacts are missing all the rest are there.A little background to know. For some reason Xperia X10 cannot read my SIM contacts from the day I bought it when we were on 1.6 so I decided to create an CSV file to add them to the mobile memory not to the SIM.So now what? The restore is sending the contacts again to SIM that's why I cannot see them?I do not want to lost my contacts again.
I recently lost my phone contacts, but luckily I had them backed up with WaveSecure. But when I restored them, all went under "Google" rather than "Phone". Later I tried to export to SD card and import back (using Mobile Backup II app), and that too went under "Google". I couldn't get either WS or the backup app to restore contacts under "Phone", nor could I move "Google" contacts to "Phone". Any thoughts?
I Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook. Here's my question: 1. Should I backup my current configuration 2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade 3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac 4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now? Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.
I'm going to keep this as simple as possible......
I presume after the update I'll have to set everything back up (email accounts, ringtones, volumes, notifications, scenes)? I can copy my music and pictures onto my PC and I don't care about SMS.
I'll have to re-install apps and set them all back up too.
All I care about are my contacts really. I don't want to use HTC sync as that wants to copy them to Outlook and I keep my work contacts in outlook (not my personal ones). I don't use my google account for anything other than the market so I don't really want to sync with google.
Can I just copy them all to the SIM card? Will I lose pics and facebook links?
When i click on batch, then run to backup my apps it jumps back to the Backup/Restore screen with all the apps, nothing gets backed up. I have backed up before with Titanium and it worked. I reinstalled Busybox, didn't help. If i uninstall and reinstall will i lose all the things i did like freeze apps etc ? When i try to update through the marketplace it says installation error, package file was not signed correctly.
